Hi Folks,
Our new Talk app is now live in the App Store. If you used the old app and didn't delete it then it should auto-update (depending on your settings) but otherwise you can download it from the app store.

This is a obviously a first live version - we plan to keep updating it, adding new features and addressing any user issues, so all feedback is most welcome.

Plus, we are planning to build an Android version too in the next few months - thanks for your patience re that Android users - we'll keep you updated on the progress and will be looking for Android testers in due course.

If it's the same as the one on the iPad that has just appeared after you closed it (jeffreygate) then it's bloody awful! Far too few background colour choices - all much too dark to read text on properly on 'home' page. Can't see which have been updated. In 'I'm on' the posts are all in random order not the most recently updated at top if page and you still can't bloody bookmark a thread!! Such crap

MumOfOne14 · 29/09/2015 21:07

Love the new app!! I gave up on the old one, so relieved this has come now!! Great Job!!! Grin

SheSellsSanctuary · 29/09/2015 21:08

I love it!!!! So glad to have an
App again. Thanks Tech! Grin

MumOfOne14 · 29/09/2015 21:14

Just the search needs improvement. I typed in breastfeeding with nothing coming up. HmmI want to read old threads to save me repeating what someone else has already asked. That's all really Smile

LyndaNotLinda · 29/09/2015 22:20

I really like it - so much faster than the old one and really clean layout.

Thanks Smile

hollyisalovelyname · 30/09/2015 18:13

Great app.
Well DoneThanks

Kettricken · 01/10/2015 18:44

I love it! Only thing I would change is when I've read a thread for it to change colour and stay changed so I don't waste my time looking at threads I've seen. At the moment the colour change reverts back when there is a new reply.

chancer2014 · 02/10/2015 08:03

Really really don't like the banner threads that punctuate every few posts. They're intrusive and itritating to the point that I stop reading - defeats tge object of advertising really. I can't be alone in thinking this.

madein1995 · 02/10/2015 10:44

Hi, just wondering, is the new app available on android or is it just on Apple? If it's just on Apple when will it be released on android?

knittedslippersx2 · 02/10/2015 13:02

Is there a refresh button for threads and for active convos? I can't find discussion of the day and trending. Other than that it's great!

knittedslippersx2 · 02/10/2015 13:04

Oh and also how do you pm someone?

MNerAnon · 02/10/2015 14:49

Madein1995
Android will be later, it's been discussed on various "new app" threads in recent weeks. **

There is no way to see DoD or trending, or to PM. The search function and PM's are possibly coming later but MN wanted people to get used to the basic app first, before adding in these extras (they're inviting suggestions for their consideration).

HTH.

To refresh you need to:

  1. Go back to top of thread
  2. Pull down screen at top of the thread

You will see the wheel turn while it reloads.

JessicaMumsnet · 02/10/2015 17:41

Thanks MNerAnon! Yes pulling up will refresh the thread or active. Android development is in the pipeline but some way off for now.

JessicaMumsnet · 02/10/2015 17:42

Sorry or pulling down depending on your reading order

TheBobbinIsWound · 02/10/2015 23:25

OMG I LUFF IT!!! Dragon

prettybird · 11/10/2015 21:59

Is MNHQ deliberately trying to kill off Mumsnet Local? The fact that you can't access the Local topics at all from the app, nor can you search (eg, in my case, Glasgow) means that the Local Boards will die a death Sad

AmyGMumsnet · 12/10/2015 16:52

Hi prettybird

Thanks for flagging this. At present the Local Talk boards aren't linked to the app but we will definitely be adding Local Talk access at some point.
Of course we'll let you all know when that does happen!

BitOutOfPractice · 12/10/2015 23:03

Hi MNTowers.

Um getting the 1001 error message A LOT when I press the "I'm on" tab! Either that or I only get the very last thread I've posted on

Is it just me? The app in general seems very glitchy today

Hello there,

Is this still happening for you? Would you mind letting us know what device you're using and what iOS version is possible? Thanks

BitOutOfPractice · 13/10/2015 13:52

Hi Jessica! It seems to happen more often when I'm using 3G or 4G. Not so glitchy on wifi. I don't know if that is relevant.

I'm on a iPhone 6 with the latest ios9.02 software.

FawnDrench · 13/10/2015 20:18

Love the app so far apart from the fact that I just can't seem to post links successfully from my iPad now. Never had a problem before.
This isn't covered in your FAQ guide either.
I've followed the same method as previously but it always comes up "not available / missing" etc. after the link is accessed following me posting on a thread, even tho it looks fine in preview mode.
Most frustrating!
I have iOS 9.0.2.

PeteTech · 14/10/2015 09:36

BitOutOfPractice Thanks for the feedback - this error means your connection "timed out". It could be a drop in your 3G/4G connection, but we did have some backend issues that caused this to happen a few weeks ago, so I'll speak to our back end developers and see what they say.

FawnDrench Thanks, I'm glad you like it - sorry for the trouble with links. Do you recall any of the threads where you posted a link and then it didn't work after previewing? If you could point me in the direction of one (realise you can't post a link to it!) then I'll have a look.

FawnDrench · 14/10/2015 16:08

Thank you very much for the response Pete.
The last link I posted was in Food/recipes yesterday at 19.36
Thread entitled "What can I do with yogurt that has gone sour?"
It would be great if you could work out what I seem to be doing wrong!
I'd really appreciate a step by step guide to posting links with the new app.

PeteTech · 14/10/2015 16:50

Thanks *Fawn

Ok I can see why the link isn't working. It's got an extra bit on the end that shouldn't be there: /leak/.

I'm going to post the correct link below twice. Once with just the link, and once with the same text you used, just to double check that it works:
