Hi Folks,
Our new Talk app is now live in the App Store. If you used the old app and didn't delete it then it should auto-update (depending on your settings) but otherwise you can download it from the app store.

This is a obviously a first live version - we plan to keep updating it, adding new features and addressing any user issues, so all feedback is most welcome.

Plus, we are planning to build an Android version too in the next few months - thanks for your patience re that Android users - we'll keep you updated on the progress and will be looking for Android testers in due course.

I am on an iPad and I don't get the option to bookmark when I slide the post left.

PeteTech · 26/09/2015 19:19

ByTheSea if you could attach a screenshot of what you do see, we will look into it

ByTheSea · 26/09/2015 21:17

Petetech, this is all I see**

ByTheSea Thanks for that, will have a look into it. Could you let me know your iPad model and iOS version as well if possible?

GameOfGroans · 27/09/2015 06:30

PeteTech why won't the app show which threads I've already read? It's very frustrating! Confused

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 27/09/2015 08:06

It looks great and much easier to use-thanks
But I miss the search function and also the active conversations page is short and would be great if it was like before so I can scroll through slightly older active chats.

Only1scoop · 27/09/2015 08:39

Also can't locate the search function.

RedButtonhole · 27/09/2015 08:42

I like it, I usually stick to the mobile site but thennew app has converted me!

I will miss having page numbers on threads though, I known you can bookmark but I liked having page numbers as a guide to where I was and how much a thread had moved on. Having to scroll to the end of a long thread is a bit tedious.

ByTheSea · 27/09/2015 09:11

PeteTech, as I was checking the information you asked for, I was finally able to upgrade to IOS 9.0.1 (I kept receiving errors when I previously tried) and now it all works. I'm on an iPad Air. Thanks! Smile

hollyisalovelyname · 27/09/2015 10:04

Congrats all at Mumsnet Towers.
Great the apps back.
I had withdrawl symptoms after Hackergate as I rarely use my computer and always accessed Mumsnet on my phone and the app didn't function.
Luddite moi.

PeteTech · 27/09/2015 10:08

WhenWillWe, Only1Scoop yes we agree the app would benefit from a search function a lot and it's on our list of features, but will have to come in a future update.

RedButtonhole have you tried flipping the thread when you want to get straight to the end? It'll order the thread with the newest post at the top. It's the button at the top right hand corner. Or if there's a reason that flip isn't suitable for you, that would be great feedback, so we'd love to hear why not.

GameOfGroans at the moment it marks a thread as read by filling the colour of the number of posts box. But when a new post appears on that thread, it will revert to white again to indicate that there's something new to read. I can see that it might be handy for people to see that they've been on a thread before (even if there are new posts) so I'll add your suggestion to our list of updates for discussion. Thanks.

PeteTech · 27/09/2015 10:12

ByTheSea ah good, glad to hear it. By any chance, do you know what version of iOS you were on before you successfully updated? 7 or 8?

PrimalLass · 27/09/2015 10:33

I really don't like that you can't tilt it to read landscape rather than portrait. The text is just too small on my phone (iPhone 6).

PeteTech · 27/09/2015 10:47

PrimalLass thanks for the feedback. We've supported iOS accessibility features, so you can adjust the text size from within your iOS settings (Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Larger Text). Hope that helps, but if not let us know - always good to have feedback on this kind of stuff.

RedButtonhole · 27/09/2015 10:49

I've just realised the flippy thing is there! That helps a bit, but sometimes threads move on and can be several pages longer by the time I go back to read them. I found the page numbers useful for being able to return to where I left off rather than starting from the mewest post and working back like youmwould when flipping the thread. Maybe I just need to embrace bookmarking!

PrimalLass · 27/09/2015 11:14

Thank you PeteTech but I don't seem to need larger text for anything else. It is the ability to zoom in and flip the screen that is missing IMO. There is just something about it that makes it uncomfortable on the eye - the very dark Active threads screen with small spindly text doesn't help.

I have pretty perfect vision so it's not my eyes!

PeteTech · 27/09/2015 11:27

Thanks for your feedback PrimalLass.

We have a lot of users of iPhones with smaller screens and landscape isn't a great experience on those, hence the portrait only on phones decision. We'll add it to our list of possible features, and I'll have a play around with it in the office and see what landscape looks like.

I'm not an expert on fonts myself (I'm more tech than design), but I'll make sure your feedback on readability gets to the right person as well.

PrimalLass · 27/09/2015 11:34

Thank you.

LIZS · 27/09/2015 11:52

Much appreciated. SmileThanksIs there anyway of user settings permanently listing newest post at top of a thread rather than having to flip it each time, alternatively taking you to first unread post on the thread.

PeteTech · 27/09/2015 12:30

LIZS not at the moment unfortunately, but shall add it to the list of possible features to be discussed

LIZS · 27/09/2015 13:39

Occasional error message coming up when posting - see pic

PeteTech · 27/09/2015 14:26

LIZS thanks for letting us know. Yes, I've noticed this a couple of times today as well. I've reported it to our backend developers, and they'll look into it as soon as they can.

MrsTammySwanson · 27/09/2015 17:52

Please can you have a white background or grey background the colours are too dark and give me a headache. Otherwise it's good to have an app. Must say I liked the old app look as it was but hey ho.

Only1scoop · 27/09/2015 18:40

First day I'm up and running
As mentioned earlier missing search and having threads in permanent reverse.
Just so glad app back though Smile

ByTheSea · 27/09/2015 19:08

PeteTech, sorry, I should have noted the previous version but hadn't. I don't recall having upgraded before and have had the iPad almost two years, I think since the Air first came out.
