Heads up - new MN ios Talk app is shortly to be released into the app store

Hi Folks,
Our new Talk app is now live in the App Store. If you used the old app and didn't delete it then it should auto-update (depending on your settings) but otherwise you can download it from the app store.

This is a obviously a first live version - we plan to keep updating it, adding new features and addressing any user issues, so all feedback is most welcome.

Plus, we are planning to build an Android version too in the next few months - thanks for your patience re that Android users - we'll keep you updated on the progress and will be looking for Android testers in due course.

Thanks ByTheSea that should be plenty of info for me to figure what version it was Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 27/09/2015 19:53

I'm having the same problem as Lizs

Attempt two

Heads up - new MN ios Talk app is shortly to be released into the app store
JessicaMumsnet · 27/09/2015 20:04

Thanks all, this feedback is really useful. We've started putting an FAQs page together and we'll keep adding to it.

A few people have asked about having lines between posts. One of the issues we faced with that approach was on threads were there are very short posts you end up with many lines making for a pretty cluttered screen. However, leave it with us and we can experiment a bit more.

SpottyTeacakes · 27/09/2015 20:09

I really like the new app Smile

(When it lets me post)

Fifth attempt...

Mrswinkler · 27/09/2015 23:04

First impressions but not used it loads:

Don't like tabbed text- makes thread titles take up too much room. Longer lines=less lines=more threads on page=better.

Quotes are too chunky and ditto tabbed texts above.

Thought search facility had disappeared but then discovered it tucked in with topics.

Why choice of colours? But if you must why pinks, purples, reds? It's as bad as the colour choice for M&S nightwear and socks (don't get me started)

Glad that bloody Just Giving banner had gone from the bottom of the screen.

Like the font.

Titles at top of pages eg "new post" too big.

Know I'm mainly moaning but you did ask.

BitOutOfPractice · 27/09/2015 23:34

Why doesn't it tell you how many pages a thread has? With an option to jump to whatever page. I used that feature all the time. Now it's gone.

Tbh I'd rather use the mobile version. And that's saying something! Confused

BitOutOfPractice · 27/09/2015 23:59

And now I'm getting the. 1001 errors when I try to post in app (I'm back on MN mobile)

Come on MN. You're not a tin pot site with twenty quid budget. What are you dong launching an app that doesn't work then using a live version with live users to beta test it. It's so unprofessional.

This is an important site with real influence. Don't let cheap IT let you down.

The desktop site already looks like something from the 90s. Don't let the new app go the same way. Why launch it when it's clearly not ready?

It really does smack of complacency. " Oh our users are addicts loyal so we can launch any old crap the new app and let them tell us what's wrong. Bit shabby imho

LIZS · 28/09/2015 07:16

I'm wondering how the colour schemes work for those needing accessibility such as vi or dyslexia.

LIZS · 28/09/2015 08:07

Error message on posting seems to be becoming more frequent

Flingingmelon · 28/09/2015 08:43

I miss the search and PM functions loads. I'm now using the app and the mobile site but mostly I'm not using either.

MrsWembley · 28/09/2015 09:31

Harsh, Abit, eh? They have already beta tested it and have stated that the extras posters are asking for may come in later versions.

You're not paying for it. Don't use it if you don't like it. Me personally, I love it!Grin

Only1scoop · 28/09/2015 09:35

Can you send a PM?

RedYellaGreen · 28/09/2015 09:50

No you can't PM or do a search, other than search for a topic under 'topics'.

They said in a thread that they wanted people to get used to new app and then would consider adding in the extras at a later date.

Only1scoop · 28/09/2015 09:56

Thanks Red

MN ....search and PM facilities on the list please.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/09/2015 09:57

Well they obviously haven't tested it enough.

I'm not complaining about extras or bells and whistles they're adding later, the damn thing simply doesn't work. 50% of my posts get that 1001 message.

It's just so unprofessional and on the back of the hacking it just seems such a shame.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/09/2015 09:58

And I'm not using it. I'm on the mobile site.

Only1scoop · 28/09/2015 10:00

I only get the 1001 when struggling for wifi 4g etc.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/09/2015 10:03

I'm at home with full wifi.

MNerAnon · 28/09/2015 10:12

I've been getting a lot of -1001 this weekend, and always on wifi.

JessicaMumsnet · 28/09/2015 10:24

Hi BitOutOfPractice, sorry to hear you're getting errors when posting - the tech team are looking into that now.

As MrsWembley mentioned we have been doing lots of testing prior to this release and would love you to join that testing group of 500 odd so we can get your thoughts earlier in the process. We're continuing to develop and add features and advanced search and PMs are very much on the list.

Thanks again for your feedback.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/09/2015 10:36

It's not hust me is it JessicaMumsnet?

I was reluctant to join in the testing group after hackgate to be honest!

JessicaMumsnet · 28/09/2015 10:53

No, not just you I'm afraid - we've identified the issue and Tech are working on it now so should be sorted very soon. If it does keep happening please do flag again.

Understood re Hackergate Sad, FWIW the updated app (and test versions) use https to securely transmit information and we don't store extra details or personal info about testers. If you ever change your mind just let us know. Flowers

prettybird · 28/09/2015 12:03

It's a shame if Mumsnet-Local can't be accessed via the app. It will certainly mean that the Local Boards will continue to suffer from lack of traffic Sad

CleverPlansAndSecretTricks · 28/09/2015 15:51

I totally love the new app. I find it so easy and pleasant to use and I no longer forget to go back to threads I'm watching because it is so easy to check them. It's so much quicker and more readable than the mobile site. Love the clean uncluttered look. I think everyone should give it a try for a while, the no lines thing is great when you get used to it.

Well done mumsnet!! GrinThanksGrin

Lonecatwithkitten · 28/09/2015 17:12

I posted on the testing thread. I am not certain that report function is working I have reported two threads from the app.
One is about to go poof as others have reported. The other a piece of blatant advertising which is still there and none of the normal emails fromMNHQ.
