Following on from discussion on another thread - could we have a Scottish section, please?

The local information is good, but it is too local to apply to the whole of Scotland, if you see what I mean.

Oh the milk laddies jumping out the van collecting the money and jumping in without it even stopping sigh

Christinayangstwistedsister · 09/04/2015 20:59

It was a sad day for the Bon accords boys when soda stream came out....

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/04/2015 21:02

Mrsjayy, another of my brothers was an actual milkman for a while with the float and everything, a bit more handsome and even more of a chat merchant also ginger he was however married with 2 kids by the time he was 21 - been married nearly 40 years now - to the same woman :)

SirChenjin · 09/04/2015 21:03

Damn - I got my hopes up there One Grin

Soda stream was around at the time of the BA boys - but Soda Stream was very expensive (according to my mum) and so I got to keep lusting after the lads. Come to think of it - I wonder if she lusted after them too, and that's why we kept getting Limeade and Pineappleade?

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/04/2015 21:04

ha ha sodastream :) we had one back then and we have one of the new swanky ones now. My DSs don't have the advantage of a misspent youth though - they make fizzy water and add it to pomegranate juice - i'm not quite sure where I went wrong..... :o

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/04/2015 21:07

DH and I have to talk about all the stuff we got up to as kids in private - our boys are so straight laced that the think they are major rebels if they keep the 20p change from the shop :)

Mrsjayy · 09/04/2015 21:07

Sodastream cordial had to last you for ages you couldnt just drink it

Christinayangstwistedsister · 09/04/2015 21:08

I know, can you imagine the horror now at letting kids spend hours making " ginger"

SirChenjin · 09/04/2015 21:09

You had a soda stream??

I had to go down to my friend Fiona's for soda stream - still remember putting those glass bottles up inside the unit and pressing the fizz button to make some kind of rank cola. There really wasn't much going on in the early 80s in the burbs of Aberdeen.

Christinayangstwistedsister · 09/04/2015 21:09

Kremola foam ( not sure if that is how you spell it...jings no wonder we all have bad teeth!

SirChenjin · 09/04/2015 21:10

Mine too One - my teens are very tame compared to me and my friends at that age. Thank fuck FB wasn't around in those days.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/04/2015 21:13

I was the youngest of 7 so despite the fact that we were poor, by the time I was late primary age, my older siblings were out working so there was a bit more money about and they also used to buy stuff like sodastream and elder brother bought a VHS when they were still fairly new!

prior to the soda stream there was of course cremola foam. I definitely do not recommend making fake cremola foam using Andrews liver salts...nearest brother to me and I had the runs for days after that busy afternoon.

OllyBJolly · 09/04/2015 21:16

Ha! I remember using a soda stream to put the fizz back into flat cider when I had an "empty". Messy!

The parents were teetotal and I was surreptitiously wiping brown spots off the artex for weeks afterwards....

SirChenjin · 09/04/2015 21:19

Creamola foam is the devil's dandruff. Horrible horrible stuff....not as bad as Andrews liver salts though. My mum used to feed us that stuff whenever we were ill - used to prolong the illness by weeks I'm sure

I remember our first VHS too - first film rented was Champion about Bob Champion, the jockey. Funny the things you remember!

Christinayangstwistedsister · 09/04/2015 21:19

One

That's hilarious...why the hell, did we think Cremola foam was a good idea...I am surprised we have any insides left

Christinayangstwistedsister · 09/04/2015 21:20

Our first movies were Ghandi and Freaky Friday

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/04/2015 21:22

Our first movies were knock off copies of The Elephant man and the Jazz Singer :)

Mrsjayy · 09/04/2015 21:28

You rented we had pirate copies i remember watching ET through fuzz and some horror film that i was allowed to watch amytiville horror or something even through the fuzz it scared me

Christinayangstwistedsister · 09/04/2015 21:28

Sat and watched them with our juice from soda stream and toasters from the be fangled breville machine

HMF1 · 09/04/2015 21:29

I have just found this thread, brilliant idea. I am reliably informed by someone old enough to know better that you can still buy Cremola foam. We never got soft drinks delivered the Alpine people didn't come up our road, neither did the ice cream van, used to complain to my parents that they should have lived down the hill rather than up it.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 09/04/2015 21:35

yeah we had a breville too........and an early microwave (would have been about 1980)

SirChenjin · 09/04/2015 21:36

We had an international shop near us to cater for the Americans, Dutch and all the other oil workers who'd moved in - all manner of sugary crap and fancy schmancy furrin baked goods to go with our Bon Accord cola (sadly no hash brownies though)

Christinayangstwistedsister · 09/04/2015 21:38

And then they brought us space dust.....

Christinayangstwistedsister · 09/04/2015 21:40

The Wimpy was fast food....

ssd · 09/04/2015 21:45

oh the Alpine van, who remembers the flavours?

American cream soda
limeade
cherryade
orangeade
lemonade
red cola (lush)

any more?
