Following on from discussion on another thread - could we have a Scottish section, please?

The local information is good, but it is too local to apply to the whole of Scotland, if you see what I mean.

I know we have home reports, that's what I meant, just badly writted! Engerland disnae!

Momagain1 · 30/03/2015 17:03

I think we would be fine to start out with one board, whether it is in chat or in mumsnet local (especially if a search is limited to that local board, rahter than the whole of mumsnet). After a while expand if traffic warrants it.

Thread labels, like educ. for schools, property, NHSS, politics, etc. could be encouraged, if only because in case of future expansion, we could easily sort what has been popular and needs a board.

(And hasn't Scottish property buying and selling recently changed, making it even more different? Wasnt Stamp duty system reorganized ? My dh said something about the way we offered the stamp duty limit, plus a lump sum for fixtures and fittings wouldnt be done now.)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/03/2015 17:05

I also think one board plenty, and was I think original request?

EdYouKateShaun · 30/03/2015 17:24

The lump sum for fixtures and fittings hasn't been allowed for a while now. AFAIAA Scotland currently has its own stamp duty thresholds and will soon change to a land tax*.

*I don't think this is its full poncy name.

BarrowlandBiddy · 30/03/2015 17:50

Despite my earlier suggestions, I actually agree, one board, MNScotland, Scots' Corner, whatever, should be fine. Thread titles should just specify the area for discussion. Additional separation really not necessary.

Still, it's been braw pondering on all the potential new names for the possible sections Smile
Whit a hoot!

KatieScarlettreregged · 30/03/2015 18:34

Why is it so cold all of a sudden?
why am I surprised by Scottish weather?
Why has it today, snowed, rained, blown a hoolie with patches of intermittent sunshine?
My crocus are not happy, the daffodils seem unperturbed though.

Mrsjayy · 30/03/2015 18:40

I'mjust back from the shop soaked freezing and in my jammies meh

KatieScarlettreregged · 30/03/2015 18:45

My evening routine goes like this;
Enter House.
Survey teen mess.
Summon offspring to clear above.
Strip work clothes in the kitchen to save lugging them downstairs utilising the classic bra-through-the-sleeve move.
ignore horrified screams from offspring
Put on kettle.
Put on goonie.
I save my pj selection until I take my coffee upstairs as am well classy burd.

Mrsjayy · 30/03/2015 18:51

Och a gonnie get you maw Brook

SirChenjin · 30/03/2015 18:54

That evening sounds depressingly familiar although I have a dressing gown because I'm dead posh

It's bloody freezing, isn't it? I've even had my electric blanket on overnight for the last couple of nights

MmeLindor · 30/03/2015 18:59

Despite my jokes earlier, I agree that one board is fine to start with.

Glad its not just me. I'm thinking of whacking the heating up a bit.

KatieScarlettreregged · 30/03/2015 19:02

I've a hot water bottle, million tog duvet and a comforter.
I envy your electric blanket.
You'd think the nylon in the fleece would keep out the wind chill? All my pretty cotton lying about wear are looking at me mockingly in the drawer.
The doorbell rang earlier, I made DH get it as he was wearing a T shirt with his fleecy bottoms which is practically formal wear around here after 6pm.

Mrsjayy · 30/03/2015 19:06

Urm i meant maw Broon no sure who the other wifey is

Mrsjayy · 30/03/2015 19:08

Dd1 is getting me a spring jacket tomorrow from her work tomorrow spring HA

KatieScarlettreregged · 30/03/2015 19:09

She's Granpaw Broons bidey-in, the hoor.
(Have been trying to work bidey-in to a post since yesterday)
Grin

PacificDogwood · 30/03/2015 19:10

I listened to the outdoor activities weather report on the way home: -4 C at Munro level + added windchill, winds 80-100mph.
That's me grateful for my indoor job at (virtually) sea level Grin

Yes to one board and nothing divisive - MNScotland seems more and more attractive to me. Not twee, not silly, not East or West Coast-ish and quite clear.

Mrsjayy · 30/03/2015 19:13

Yeah 1 board is fine still laughing at bidey in hoor

PacificDogwood · 30/03/2015 19:16

bidey-in hoor is great Grin

PacificDogwood · 30/03/2015 19:17

But Maw Broon would sort'er oot in no time Grin

MmeLindor · 30/03/2015 19:20

Ha at bidey-in

I've been trying to worth in some mention of yer Granny's at her broth, perhaps about a fishing village on the east coast.

Christinayangstwistedsister · 30/03/2015 19:24

Ohhhh aye time fur the gooney

Momagain1 · 30/03/2015 19:34

Ha! I don't need bidey-in translated! Hoor indeed!

After last week's few days of sort of dry and almost warm, I had high hopes for Spring happening during my mother's visit (arrives Thurs) from Florida. But now look at this, it is awful! And creates some real clothing complications. She has reached the shrinking grandma (great grandma actually) stage, and though I noticed we are no longer the same height 5 years or longer ago, and I have been wider than her for decades she seems to think she can just wear one of my coats like I used to wear her nice one when I was a teenager!

I told her to bring a waterproof jacket or coat of some sort, and closed, waterproof shoes. We will sort out layers of some sort so long as she has something to keep the rain off.

Momagain1 · 30/03/2015 19:36

What's a gooney? What I would call a bathrobe, but my ds7 has begun calling a dressing gown?

KatieScarlettreregged · 30/03/2015 19:45

A goonie can be either a dressing gown or a nightie. In my case it is a dressing gown but MIL calls her floor length wincey buttoned to the neck nightie that.

Mrsjayy · 30/03/2015 20:55

I remember my thought she was posh granny used to call the woman upstairs a clarty hoor for not cleaning the close Grin
