Following on from discussion on another thread - could we have a Scottish section, please?

The local information is good, but it is too local to apply to the whole of Scotland, if you see what I mean.

I'm Grin at Nippy Sweetie being sexist. I know a few men who are nippy sweeties and have always heard it used in relation to both men and women. It's definitely an equal-opportunities insult.

I'm loving the alternative names for the sections.

NorahDentressangle · 30/03/2015 06:47

I understood a nippy sweetie was a wee dram.

Finlaggan · 30/03/2015 06:54

Yes please, but please don't call it 'mawsnet'. A Scottish education section would be particularly helpful. Thanks!

AddToBasket · 30/03/2015 07:22

'We have 23 local sites in Scotland'. That's why they are underused. 5 would be better. Borders, East, West, Higlands, Islands.

'Mawsnet' is awful. Hope MNHQ avoid anything parochial or twee. How about 'Scottish MNers'. And I hope it isn't more than a topic. A whole area is a bit apartheid-y.

Barrow
'You'll have had yer tea' is said on the East Coast too. That one took some explaining to my German husband!

Baking would have to be Scones an' Pehs

And for Sleep, we could just have Scunnered

PacificDogwood · 30/03/2015 07:34

I also love 'hingy' - no better word to describe the non-specifically not-well child: 'He's right hingy today'. 'Nuff said, I know what you mean.
Grin

Quite agree.

OOAOML · 30/03/2015 08:09

Never heard 'tumbling yer doakies', where is that one from?

Christinayangstwistedsister · 30/03/2015 08:19

Think it is west coast

CycleChic · 30/03/2015 09:08

Yes please to ScotsCorner! Or maybe add a board to each relevant section- Scots Law next to legal, Buying and Selling in Scotland in the property area, Education in Scotland in the Education section, NHS Scotland in health. I think thats all that's different?

MmeLindor · 30/03/2015 09:32

Tumblin yer doakies is a new one to me.

AddToBasket · 30/03/2015 09:46

Please don't do a Scots Law next to Legal. The legal profession in Scotland is small/well kent and anyone offering specialist advice is likely to be outed after about 3 posts.

Binkleflip · 30/03/2015 13:28

Scotch corner is in Englandshire and scots corner is too close a name to be useful and will grate.

MNScotland SN
MNScotland Education
MNScotland Health

etc

or Hee Haw!

Binkleflip · 30/03/2015 13:29

oh and

MNScotland property

AddToBasket · 30/03/2015 13:50

Why do we need a Scottish Property? Pretty much the same house whether it is here or there?

GrouchyKiwi · 30/03/2015 13:59

The process for buying and selling property is different.

I agree that we shouldn't have separate boards for everything, just one extra MNScotland topic.

Binkleflip · 30/03/2015 14:11

We have no chains, home reports and long standing moral objections to gazumping et al. There is no comparison.

AddToBasket · 30/03/2015 14:22

Not sure our property market has 'moral objections', just a different pattern of practice (or was that actually an attempt at smugness Hmm). And not so significant that it actually requires it's own thread.

The danger with splitting off these topics is that it just diminishes access to information in either place. The Property & DIY boards are really useful as they are. It isn't a big deal to cope with the two systems. And the renovation stuff is the same both sides of the border.

EdYouKateShaun · 30/03/2015 14:30

Tea is a hot drink.

Dinner is the main meal of the day.

Binkleflip · 30/03/2015 14:32

Agreed re renovations etc but not for sales.

All the communications here go through the solicitors mostly who will not gazump or gazunder willingly (due to possible reputation damage), this does make the system better because I do think there is less chance of an unscrupulous vendor or buyer being able to behave badly during a sale. A lot of people don't know there is a different system here, I think the system in England is excruciating and do feel sympathy for those trying to buy there!

iHAVEtogetoutofhere · 30/03/2015 14:54

Er, Scotland DOES have Home Reports!
You cannae go on the market withoot one....

tabulahrasa · 30/03/2015 14:59

Isn't the difference with gazumping that if an offer is accepted then it's legally binding...but that's not the case in England?

I don't think we need loads of boards? I think it would be too quiet, just somewhere to go if you know your issue is Scotland specific?

EdYouKateShaun · 30/03/2015 15:25

I agree. I think just the one board is enough. Thread titles should be enough to differentiate by.
