Following on from discussion on another thread - could we have a Scottish section, please?

The local information is good, but it is too local to apply to the whole of Scotland, if you see what I mean.

I like scots corner!

BarrowlandBiddy · 29/03/2015 20:06

So, does it look like the Scottish section might be a go-er then? ^^

MmeLindor · 29/03/2015 20:49

I like ScotsCorner and MNScotland.

Also like the idea of Scottish names for sections. So Parenting could be Bairns, and Chat could be Blethers. We could have a weather section called Driech.

KatieScarlettreregged · 29/03/2015 20:58

S&B could be called Peely-Wally.

MmeLindor · 29/03/2015 21:01

AIBU would be Am I Being Glaikit?

KatieScarlettreregged · 29/03/2015 21:04

Good Housekeeping could be Dain the Cleaning?
Property could be Flitting?

MmeLindor · 29/03/2015 21:07

Oh, yes to Flittin'

Getting the Messages In would be Shopping

MmeLindor · 29/03/2015 21:09

Sleep would be Hae'in a Kip

KatieScarlettreregged · 29/03/2015 21:12

Short Hall - Gauin Doon the Water?

BarrowlandBiddy · 29/03/2015 21:24

Love all these names!
Relationships could be Winchin' Grin

KatieScarlettreregged · 29/03/2015 21:29

Love love love "Winchin'"

KatieScarlettreregged · 29/03/2015 21:31

Becoming Pregnant - Up the Duff?

MmeLindor · 29/03/2015 21:38

Surely Relationships would be Are Ye Dancin?

Childbirth - Are Ye Better Yet?

KatieScarlettreregged · 29/03/2015 21:42

Goady Fuckers could be Nippy Sweeties?

BarrowlandBiddy · 29/03/2015 21:43

Haha, "Nippy Sweeties" , brilliant!!!

SirChenjin · 29/03/2015 22:09

I once got a severe ticking off on MN for nippy sweetie - apparently it's sexist and demeaning to women I stuck 2 fingers up at the screen

Parenting has to be Weans World, surely? Grin Love all of the Scottish words (even allowing for their weegie slant..) - esp winchin and peely wally!

KatieScarlettreregged · 29/03/2015 22:15

Really?
Don't they know it means actual sweetie, like soor plume?
How can an item of confectionary be sexist?
Erse Grin

SirChenjin · 29/03/2015 22:17

It was because men are never called nippy sweeties apparently. A couple of us disputed that claim and explained about the sour sweet connection, but no - it's a sign that the patriarchy is alive and well. Or something.

Erses indeed Grin

KatieScarlettreregged · 29/03/2015 22:21

Clearly they have never met my BIL (who I love) who is the absolute definition of Nippy Sweetie. We put it down to small man syndrome.
I too can also be a bit nippy. I am also short.
Hmm

KatoPotato · 29/03/2015 22:25

Childbirth - is Yer fanny like a pun a mince?

MmeLindor · 29/03/2015 22:32

I've never heard of Nippy Sweetie. I think we should leave Goady Fuckers, since I coined the phrase. [claim to fame]

Do we need more East Coast phrases then?

MmeLindor · 29/03/2015 22:33

Oh, and I forgot to say that I don't find Nippy Sweetie sexist, but then since I'd never heard of it, I can't really judge!

KatieScarlettreregged · 29/03/2015 22:35

That was you?
Excellent Grin

BarrowlandBiddy · 29/03/2015 23:02

Food could be Yer tea's oot! or Ye'll huv hud yer tea?
Apologies if these are exclusively Glasgow patter, not sure of other local sayings.

Momagain1 · 29/03/2015 23:19

There's another good purpose: I will have a place to ask things like WHY is it called going for messages?
