MN making safari crash?

DishwasherDogs · 17/03/2015 10:27

Every time I have been on Mn this morning it keeps crashing safari.
It doesn't do it on any other website.
I'm using an iPad.
Any ideas what's going on or how I can fix it?

I can imagine that this must be very hard for Tech to deal with this problem, but I find it hard to believe that it is (solely) a bug with Safari when it hardly happens with other websites.

Plus on my ipad Mumsnet crashes in the Chrome app too...other websites don't.

PeriPathetic · 16/04/2015 13:01

No longer bothering to use MN on my iPad. And on my PC (Firefox) it's also hanging. Definitely not the browsers, it's something on MN as it doesn't happen with any other site.

Looks like there are loads of analytics and a huge number of ad scripts that cause the problem.

AgathaChristie01 · 16/04/2015 16:03

MN is the only site that causes the problem, for me. Any other site I am on works perfectly, on my iPad.

Baddz · 16/04/2015 16:11

I did all the IOS updates.
It's still happening.
It's ONLY MN
It says "cannot parse response"

catbite · 16/04/2015 16:44

I'm still using IE and firefox successfully for other websites - just not Mumsnet. It's definitely something to do with a script on the mumsnet website.

prepperpig · 16/04/2015 16:48

It is definitely only mumsnet doing this. I can no longer MN from my iPad. It's not worth the hassle of it crashing every few seconds. All other websites are fine.

This has been going on for weeks now

bananayellow · 16/04/2015 17:50

On the Ipad it's horrendous, but only on Mumsnet. Not on other sites. On the Apple Mac it's fine.

I can completely understand losing users. It's totally frustrating.

bananayellow · 16/04/2015 17:53

The only saving grace is that when you press -post message-, the site crashes immediately but it does actually post the message which can be seen when you get back onto mumsnet.

Chimchar · 16/04/2015 23:23

Very frustrating again tonight. Grrrrr.

catbite · 17/04/2015 08:19

Chief suspect has to be your ad-ware MNHQ. I've seen something similar before with a local newspaper website. All those advert scripts take time to load and presumably you don't have full control of their content. If they're delivered to you as a package via an agency, perhaps you should be letting them know there is an issue?

ShamTech · 17/04/2015 15:53

Thank you for all your feedback. I realise some of you are having problems on non-iOS devices (your PCs/Macs etc), but I believe those are not exhibiting the same crashes as iOS. What I mean by a crash is when you tap/click something and your browser instantly vanishes. Poof. As far as I know this serious crash is only happening on iOS (be it Safari or Chrome or whatever).

So could I please ask those of you with iOS, does it still crash even though you are on the latest version 8.3 of iOS? This is particularly important for us to find out as we have had feedback from Apple to this regard and we are also not able to cause any crashes on our own devices when on iOS 8.3. Your continued feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Baddz · 17/04/2015 16:05

Yep still happening

Birnamwood · 17/04/2015 16:52

I'm on an ipad2, safari, iOS 8.3. It is happening less since I updated but it has still 'crashed' (cannot parse response) a couple of times.

Birnamwood · 17/04/2015 16:53

Oh, forgot to say, it's worse on the full site, the mobile site is a bit better

ShamTech · 17/04/2015 17:06

Birnamwood could you please elaborate on the 'cannot parse response'? Where are you seeing this if Safari crashes and disappears? Alternatively a screenshot would be very helpful. Thank you.

Halsall · 17/04/2015 20:42

ShamTech this is what I get.

MN making safari crash?
Halsall · 17/04/2015 20:44

Not easy to see! But basically a big white page with 'Safari cannot open the page. The error was: cannot parse response'

Usually this happens when I'm trying to post.

SprungHasSpring · 17/04/2015 20:51

I've noticed that it alwAys crashes as I post a message but the message posts just fine. It does crash at other times too, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

I'm not on 8.3 though as my ipad won't let me update it.

Lumobile · 17/04/2015 23:38

I'm using pc for MN because of this issue when trying to use my iPad. It's been doing it for ages.

bananayellow · 17/04/2015 23:51

Mostly it just goes back to the cover (or whatever you call it) page where you just have to press safari again, but sometimes I get the safari cannot respond message. Not sure what it says under that though.

Im using IE on an Android phone and about to throw it out the window. MN has been kicking me off the browser page numerous times a day. This morning it took me three return visits just to get to the end of a short OP.

The screen freezes, then a message comes up "Internet has stopped" and I am kicked off. Nine times out of ten when I re open IE I get my homepage. Once in a while I get the page I was last on.

I have spent a lot of time on other websites the last ten days and it is not happening on any other sites.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 18/04/2015 13:44

Chrome and Huawei here

This has been getting worse in the last few weeks. The mobile suite was awful last night and unusable this morning: page loads OK minus adverts, I start reading and scrolling while the ads finish loading and start flashing, then the page freezes for a minute or so, then "problem loading page" comes up and if I try to refresh or go back there is a total freeze and Chrome closes down. Then start again. I'm guessing it's something to do with the ads. It seems better now...

No problems with other sites BTW.

I get too, Footle.

I've now experimented with using Google rather than Safari (on iPad here) and at first I thought that had cracked it. But now it's as bad as ever on Google too, though I haven't had 'cannot parse response' yet - just freezing, endless re-loading of page, refusal to do what I want, basically.
