Why does MN keep freezing?

I'm accessing MN from a laptop using Chrome browser. For the last couple of days MN is being very slow to upload threads with lots of messages and keeps freezing after I've clicked on a few threads (no response to any mouse clicks except to close the page). I've guessed that MN have been spying on how much I've been time wasting when I should be working on the boards and have decided to help me by freezing things after so many minutes but please - how do I stop this! I need to feed my MN addiction!

Hi there educatingarti - we have instigated a new system which monitors your usage. When you go over a certain level, this sort of thing will start to happen...

Only joking Grin - this sounds very annoying. We like people to use Mumsnet more, not less!

We will see if anyone else is having similar trouble and then flag it to Tech.

Thanks

I've been having lots of problems over the last few days too. Not sure if they're all connected but ....

  1. Using Firefox when I try to log in or navigate around the site I keep getting this error "The page isn't redirecting properly: Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies". Needless to say I haven't made any recent changes to my cookie settings. They have always been set up to refuse third party cookies, but not cookies from sites visited. So, I have abandoned Firefox for now.
  1. Using IE I keep getting freezes and a message to say that this is due to a "long running script" ... it gives me the option to cancel the script, which usually resolves it.
  1. When I go to add a message, my username isn't automatically appearing in the Username field like it normally does. I have to add it manually.
  1. Using both IE and the browser on my HTC phone I keep getting little notifications of Mumsnet web-chats coming up in orange at the bottom of the screen, and even when I dismiss them they keep coming back. They are very annoying!

Problems 1,2 and 3 started happening around the same time as problem 4, so perhaps there is a connection - maybe something to do with your cookies?

Same issue here as OP using chrome on iPhone. Page will freeze for up to a minute while scrolling through a thread. Assumed it was a problem on my end but maybe not?! Thanks

Perfectlypurple · 16/03/2015 17:34

There's an article in the daily mail about the wee in Pringles tube thread. Maybe there is higher traffic do that's why?

TheSpottedZebra · 16/03/2015 21:16

Me too, also on chrome. Long threads are just not loading. It's literally taking well over 5 mins to load pages.
Tbh it's getting to the point where I can't be bothered with MN much any more.

BowiesJumper · 16/03/2015 22:43

It's not loading longer threads for me either and if it's not just freezing and crashing it's coming up with an error message. Not very usable!

educatingarti · 17/03/2015 09:57

Glad it isn't just me!

Me to, so slow and annoying.

BeccaMumsnet · 17/03/2015 15:02

Hi everyone - could we ask if everyone is using Chrome, except catbite on Firefox? And this is happening on both phones/iphones and laptops?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 17/03/2015 15:06

Also on Chrome on the tablet, and it's been a PITA, using both the mobile and the desk top site. Got to a point where I just gave up.

I also use Chrome on the laptop, that hasn't been quite as bad.

ProfYaffle · 17/03/2015 15:09

I'm using Chrome on a laptop and have had continual problems for weeks. Slow loading, bad gateways, freezing etc

BowiesJumper · 17/03/2015 18:20

It's safari on my iphone and threads are making it crash. But I'm also having to reload/refresh pages on my desktop computer using Firefox, although these do eventually work.

Yes, chrome on a Samsung tablet. It's still really really slow to load any thread with more than a few hundred messages. It's taking quite a few minutes.

springalong · 17/03/2015 19:39

mine is IE on a laptop (actually 2 as I am using a loan one as well)

Firecrest · 17/03/2015 19:43

iPad, Safari, MN keeps making safari crash. It happens when I click on a thread. Only MN, no other sites Sad

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/03/2015 23:48

I'm using mobile site on safari on iPhone (iOS 8.1.3) & its been painfully slow for the last couple of days - many times it just freezes when asked to open a thread or to post.

MN homepage & talk homepage both seem ok - just threads

All other sites ok too. It's just YOU!!!

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 17/03/2015 23:50

It was ok on Chrome on laptop tonight though

cardoon · 18/03/2015 07:20

Chrome/laptop combo here.

PseudoBadger · 18/03/2015 07:23

Chrome on iPhone very slow it's the adverts loading

Springcleanish · 18/03/2015 07:23

iPad, Safari here too. Same thing, click on a thread and safari crashes. Happening more in last 12 hours, about every other thread now.

Rosa · 18/03/2015 07:23

I pad safari keeps taking me out of MN when click on a thread

LMGTFY · 18/03/2015 07:24

MN crashed Internet on my ipad more times than I can remember yesterday, I mentioned it to dh that it was only mn and it had happened loads and then realised I'd just fessed up how much I had been faffing instead of painting!

Thisissomething · 18/03/2015 09:05

Same here as firecrest. Crashing as soon as I click on a link. Started yesterday. Not happening on any other sites.
