Hi all,

We’ve sorted quite a few of the glitches raised by you Thanks on the mobile site. Please do go and take another look and let us know any further thoughts.

We have the answers to your mobile related FAQs over here, if there is anything else you would like to know, please post below.

There’s been a bit of negative feedback about the fixed ad at the top of the site so we’d like to test a new approach this week - no fixed at at the top but a returning in-text ad (every 6 posts) as you scroll down the page (something we’ve seen on other sites like the Guardian)

Hopefully this will also be a preferable solution for those who’ve felt the pages are too uniform or too white. As ever, please let us know what you think.

Is anyone else getting some weird square and eye thing flashing up mid screen?

PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears · 04/09/2014 07:06

Yy to everything show me said!

JessicaMumsnet · 04/09/2014 15:30

@MultipleMama

Here's a screenshot of the ad in a poster's box.

It's very instrusive.

My phone is Samsung S3 Mini, latest android and chrome.

Hello MultipleMama, that advert is between posts but we appreciate it may need a bit more definition or space around it. We'll give it some thought. Thanks

Gosh that's sounds disturbing! Can you let us know if it happens again? Thanks

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/09/2014 16:09

It's been happening all day and screen also auto scrolling to the bottom

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/09/2014 19:52

Hate them in the middle of the threads, the top was far better (still annoying though).

By the weekend I was fairly happy with the new mobile site and had got used to it, this is a definite retrograde step. I'm going back to desktop again.

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/09/2014 20:33

It's still doing it and starting to get on my nerves now. Stop with the eye balls and scrolling

CleverPlansAndSecretTricks · 04/09/2014 22:32

I couldn't bear them at the top of the screen, and it actually stopped me coming on MN. They were always there in my eyeline, made the screen too small, and felt really stressful and intrusive.

I much prefer the new solution. I can just read and move on. I am actually more likely to be interested and click, because they are not making me angry!

Any chance you could screenshot eyeballs for us? Regarding the auto scrolling could you let us know what phone and browser you're using please also do you have bookmarks turned on? Thanks

Gileswithachainsaw · 05/09/2014 10:20

I'm. On the phone site but not the app on a Samsung note three

Gileswithachainsaw · 05/09/2014 10:23

No idea how to do a screen shot as it's new. Sorry.

JessicaMumsnet · 05/09/2014 10:36

@SinisterBuggyMonth

I can't get used to the ads mid thread. They are making me loose thread...of the thread...Confused

Was this the whole point of the redesign? Because ads every 6 posts must equal a huge boost in your revenue!

Hello, advertising was not the motivation for a redesign. We spent a long time listening to feelings about mobile talk and the talk app and we wanted very much to create a mobile experience that replicated the functions of the desktop site.

Part of the problem in the past with the older designs has been a lack of screen space to fit all the options people wanted. Over the course of many months we worked on and tested several designs to see which would strike the best balance between functions and content. Though it's always a tricky balance to strike.

The adverts appearing between posts is one of the approaches we're trying out and we're v keen to know how you feel about it so thank you for letting us know.

JessicaMumsnet · 05/09/2014 10:41

Thank you everyone who has given their thoughts so far. Advertising is clearly quite a polarising issue..!

We are reading all your posts and it is extremely helpful to know how you feel so thank you for taking the time to let us know.

This is one approach we're trying out, 6 posts is based on us testing average scroll and screen size as well as average length of post but is still a beta version and we're always keen to improve and tweak based on your feedback.

Thanks

Hello, looks like you can take a screenshot by pressing the home key and power key at the same time. Could you give that a go please? samsung support page

Hello, that's a feature of your new phone rather than anything to do with us Smile Looks like it's related to the smart scroll feature? There's some info on it here

Gileswithachainsaw · 05/09/2014 11:46

My apologies Hq it only came up on mn not on anything else so I thought it might be a glitch. Thanks for the link I think I have turned it off now and wouldn't have known otherwise so thank you Smile

No problem at all, glad you've sorted it Thanks

EveryGoodBoyDeservesFun · 05/09/2014 15:20

I can't seem to be able to hide the Guest Posts. I don't have the option to hide when I click on the ellipsis (just to watch), and I've tried going into the post and hiding from there - but it is still in active convos.

EveryGoodBoyDeservesFun · 05/09/2014 15:22

Oh sorry, now it has gone once I came out and went back in again! But it wouldn't go initially.

IneedAwittierNickname · 05/09/2014 22:35

I don't like the adverts mid thread sorry.

The one at the top is fine imo. But mine doesn't 'float' like others have described, I can just scroll past. The ones in the middle though interrupt the 'flow' of my reading :)

Lezprechaun · 07/09/2014 20:23

Prefer them being in between posts to being fixed at the top as it reduces screen size too much. Being at the too and bottom but vanishing once you scroll down would be ideal though. That way they are not constantly there reducing the screen size and they don't interupt the flow of threads or accidently get clicked on either.
