Hi all,

We’ve sorted quite a few of the glitches raised by you Thanks on the mobile site. Please do go and take another look and let us know any further thoughts.

We have the answers to your mobile related FAQs over here, if there is anything else you would like to know, please post below.

There’s been a bit of negative feedback about the fixed ad at the top of the site so we’d like to test a new approach this week - no fixed at at the top but a returning in-text ad (every 6 posts) as you scroll down the page (something we’ve seen on other sites like the Guardian)

Hopefully this will also be a preferable solution for those who’ve felt the pages are too uniform or too white. As ever, please let us know what you think.

Can't say I'd noticed any ads when they were on the top/bottom but since they started appearing between posts today I can only agree with PP that they are incredibly annoying and distracting. I'd rather not have them at all thank you. I'm only going to click on them to get rid of them not because I'm interested in what they're selling.

MultipleMama · 02/09/2014 21:25

Really don't like the ads inbetween posts - I keep accidently clicking them while strolling. I prefer them at the top like before.

PseudoBadger · 02/09/2014 21:29

Yooo Hooo MNHQ - one of those sneaky adverts that opens the App Store is around...
Here is the advert that did it, and the app that it opened.

Ads between posts is much worse :( really distracting and tacky. Preferred them at the too!

Pipbin · 02/09/2014 22:11

I have to say I preferred the ads at the top, but only still ads.

Thank you PseudoBadger we'll flag that one up for you. Smile

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 22:22

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. We're afraid we can't only accept still ads so there will be some element of movement around.

Please do keep your thoughts coming while we test out this approach.

Thanks

Much prefer them in posts instead of up top!

However (and I'm probably being thick) but can we no longer flip threads? It's a long ole scroll to the bottom Confused

ellotreacle · 03/09/2014 04:24

Horrible in threads. Keep them the way they were at the top, at least it wasn't shoved in my face, making me lose track of what I was reading.
Terrible, terrible idea.

Lumineer · 03/09/2014 05:52

I just think they are so much better in threads. They are tiny and easy to ignore.

I don't suppose it could be a user preference option, ie people select where they are, for them, In their profile or settings.

MultipleMama · 03/09/2014 05:57

I find I notice them more in threads because they're appearing more often where when it was at the top, it was one advert and I just ignored like a bar at the top.

The preference thing would be good.

Queen0fFeckingEverything · 03/09/2014 07:34

I now have a fixed ad at the top AND ads every 6 posts AND a giant flashing ad at the bottom of every page.

Which is crap.

Tinkerball · 03/09/2014 08:33

Im the same as multiple mama, at the top it was easier to ignore and now they are in the middle of threads you cant help seeing them - which is ultimately more distracting and annoying!!

JessicaMumsnet · 03/09/2014 09:11

Wooah that definitely shouldn't be the case Queen0fFeckingEverything please can you let us know what phone and browser you are on so we can take a look? Thanks

It's the built in browser on a Galaxy S4. And it's highly annoying and very intrusive!

JessicaMumsnet · 03/09/2014 09:47

There should be a single ad at the top of the page which then scrolls away and then two further adverts that each appear after 6 posts, and they should appear between posts.

The adverts shouldn't be within any posts so if you're seeing that it would you mind taking a screenshot so we can see too?

Thanks

JessicaMumsnet · 03/09/2014 09:49

Thanks Queen0fFeckingEverything Tthe ad at the top should scroll away when you move. We'll take another look on Samsung Galaxy S4 to check that's happening for us. Thanks

I preferred them at the top/bottom, I keep thinking I'm at the bottom when it'd an ad!!

MrsCakesPrecognition · 03/09/2014 11:19

I hate the ads in the threads. They hide the posts and I don't seem to be able to get rid of them, so I being unable to read what the poster is saying, which is especially annoying with it's a response from the OP.

PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears · 03/09/2014 12:47

sinister I've just come on to say about that with my own screenshot, but I think it's lack of definition of the end of the ad/ the start of the post that's a problem. A thick bordered box would Deffo help the problem, it's these white background ones that are causing the most probs with this..

Patilla · 03/09/2014 12:53

Personally I don't like the ads in the thread. It feels intrusive, it's our thread not the advertiser's (unless it's a sponsored thread).

And I've already accidentally clicked on them a few times which is annoying.

It's very instrusive.
