Morning all,

And welcome to the new thread!
Grin

As SarahMumsnet said at the end of the last thread, we have Tech on call for fixes this weekend, and various MNHQers will be here to talk and help wherever we can.

We'll be adding to the rolling list of bugs, glitches and dislikes (see below), so please keep the feedback coming. Do remember to list which device you're using, which operating system, and which browser, so we can identify the specific issues.

Right then, who's first?

Thanks everyone else for the reports of problems. We're making notes. Apologies we can't acknowledge every message, but we are adding them all to our list.

IonaMumsnet · 24/08/2014 10:44

Cleanmachine and others enquiriing about namechange buttons - Tech say they are planning to reinstate this as soon as they can. Might not be immediately but hopefully not too far down the line.

IPHONE 5s
SAFARI
IOS 7.1.2

Sorry for shouting but I'm having to use the desktop site on my phone exclusively now.

I've tried a number of times to use the mobile site and while everything technical seems to be ok, I just can't get past the font/glare issues (migraine sufferer). I get a very odd sensation reading on the mobile site, like I'm about to have a migraine attack.

I'm sorry but I can't use it like this at all just now and don't want to risk a migraine so can MNHQ please post when this has resolved? Until then I am not using the mobile site.

As a knock on effect I simply won't be on as much as it's a real pain to use the desktop site on a phone.

I will reiterate what I've said previously; I'm very annoyed/upset by all of this. It's ruined MN for me on my phone. I don't care if I seem like I'm whinging or overreacting. This is how I feel.

Phone 5s iOS 7.1.2

Just noticed when I bookmark a post and then return to the thread later, it takes me down to the last added post, NOT my bookmarked post

quirkycutekitch · 24/08/2014 10:58

Having all the galaxy phone issues. Blue bar across the words in op. Just a square & 3 blank circles at the top - just 4 coloured boxes at the bottom. You cannot tell if u've actually 'clicked' on something. Post all on one massive page.

Snapespotions · 24/08/2014 11:23

Bookmarks not working, and threads loading all on one page even when the user has not customised them that way NEW ISSUE - please give us feedback and LET US KNOW WHAT DEVICE, OS AND BROWSER you're using

This is happening to me, but only on some threads, and not all of the time. Confused I'm on an iPhone 5c, using safari.

Snapespotions · 24/08/2014 11:24

Sorry, I'm on OS 7

Snapespotions · 24/08/2014 11:25

Aagh, posted too soon. OS 7.1.2

infinitemonkeys · 24/08/2014 11:28

I haven't read the whole thread (mainly because I'd get finger fatigue from the ridiculous amount of scrolling needed to use the new mobile site), but where has "flip thread" gone? This was a really useful feature, especially for things like the Stately Homes thread which gets very big very quickly, so flipping it meant you could just catch up with the newest posts.

IonaMumsnet · 24/08/2014 11:46

infinitemonkeys you should find the flip option in the circle with the downwards-pointing chevron in at the top of the thread - just below the three circles next to our logo. Tap on the chevron box to see the menu and it's in the right hand column, second down.

bearfrills · 24/08/2014 11:47

I'm on a Samsung S5

IonaMumsnet · 24/08/2014 12:00

Ophiotaurus really sorry about your migraines. We are aware of this issue and are working to get it resolved as a high priority. We will update this thread as issues are resolved.

IonaMumsnet · 24/08/2014 12:07

Mousebacon That DOES sound odd. Are you just on the Talk boards when this is happening? Will ask someone better qualified than me for an opinion!

emotionsecho · 24/08/2014 12:55

No doubt I will be dismissed as a "whinger', but the whole look of the new mobile site and the functionality of it is just crap.

On the old site, one tap would take you to Active Convos, one tap back to Chat when you were on a thread, etc., etc., now to go anywhere takes three or four taps if you are lucky, how the hell is this quicker, easier and slicker???

All the relevant dots, circles, chevrons, etc., are on my screen but it is still very user unfriendly, forcing users to faff about with customisation and bookmarking, which functions intermittently at best, why do you think this makes it a better user experience??

Visually, it is headache inducing I struggle after 20 minutes and have to close it down. Who on earth thought the layout was a good idea? When you open a thread in Chat you get all the blurb about threads being deleted in 90 days, this is very clear but you lose the OP as it is not clearly defined, from either the blurb above it or the posts below it, again how does this make for a 'better user experience'?

You can spend hours and hours addressing all the bugs and glitches people are flagging up for you, but if you don't address the fundamental design flaw that is the new site you are never going to get anywhere.

I suggested on the other thread that you take the new site off-line to address the faults and design flaws. Users seem to becoming increasingly frustrated with continually pointing out faults and issues, which is hardly surprising. You've taken away a site which worked well for them, maybe needed a few things added to make it better, and given them one which they can't use and are expecting them to politely help you by flagging up techical and other issues which should have been done way before it was ever launched.

Yes. we are where we are but why can you not give the option of the old site so users can actually use it to read and post while you sort out the debacle that is the new site?

emotionsecho · 24/08/2014 12:58

By the way I posted from my creaky old laptop on the desktop site as posting from the mobile site is just too much hard work. Sadly, I used to prefer the mobile site to using the laptop - not anymore.

TeenyfTroon · 24/08/2014 13:07

iPhone 3GS (yes I know it's old, but works fine!)
Safari
Google

The lack of visible posts is my main complaint. I read Lezprechaun's post and tried landscape. Even worse.
Glare is a bit better but still far too much white.
Still hate the ad.
Blue bar stays put on some pages - dances about on others.
Need thumb support for all this scrolling.
On the plus side, I'm getting more work done...

AnnaLegovah · 24/08/2014 13:07

Seconding emotions posts. I'm checking in occasionally to see if the mobile site is user-friendly yet and logging straight back out. I cant switch to the desktop site as it makes my phone crash and this mobile site is shite (sorry).

Tinkering round the edges wont solve the problems. Until you can get the new site a) working properly and b) user-friendly the old one needs to be put back.

magimedi · 24/08/2014 13:15

I don't use the mobile site, but just wonder if it would be simpler to bring back the old one, that every one was OK with, and go back to the drawing board with this new one?

Or is that too simple a solution?

emotionsecho · 24/08/2014 13:19

magimedi, the simple solution is always the best, but I don't think MNHQ are listening, or want to hear thatSmile

bearfrills · 24/08/2014 13:34

These are the top and bottom of threads for me, there are no pages, just one long thread (it's now also happening with this thread). As a result it takes ages to load and it's zapping my battery.

Also when I go into a thread I'm already on I'm being taken to the latest post rather than to my bookmarked post, I then need to scroll to my bookmark. Again this eats battery as it's extra 'taps' on the screen.

Mousebacon have hear back from Tech and we think this might be the box that opens when you tap the email icon to share with a friend (hence the space for address and your email showing). It could be yet another Windows phone problem, which Tech are looking into and should be getting fixed soon. In the meantime, no one else will be able to see your email address when posting or anything, so don't worry about that.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 24/08/2014 14:13

Haven't read the tread so don't know if it has been mentioned but mobile site keeps crashing when I try to post again
iPhone 5
iOS 7
Safari

What a pile of crap

AgentProvocateur · 24/08/2014 14:15

When I go to "customise", I tick the "show special needs topic" box, but them it unticks itself when I go to save.

AttentionSeekingFantasist · 24/08/2014 14:15

I have noticed that on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/relationships/2166767-Going-to-be-a-Bitch?msgid=49077012, there is a post at 12:06 obviously by the OP but she has a typo in the name. On the desktop, it looks like any ordinary post. On the mobile site, it's highlighted in OP colour.

Does this mean there will be no more SOCK PUPPETING? And if so, is it a bug or a feature?

todayisnottheday · 24/08/2014 14:20

That's really interesting fantasist. I wonder!
