Morning all,

And welcome to the new thread!
Grin

As SarahMumsnet said at the end of the last thread, we have Tech on call for fixes this weekend, and various MNHQers will be here to talk and help wherever we can.

We'll be adding to the rolling list of bugs, glitches and dislikes (see below), so please keep the feedback coming. Do remember to list which device you're using, which operating system, and which browser, so we can identify the specific issues.

Right then, who's first?

The mobile site is unusable on my Samsung Galaxy S2 running Android 4.1.2. I can't click on on any of the threads, there is no response. If I tap many times then I am likely to load a thread that I was not trying to open.

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 14:25

Hello, we haven't updated the Mumsnet App recently but we're keenly aware it's not great for everyone so do intend to do what we can about that.

The Mumsnet mobile site has been changed recently, if that's what your post is about would you mind letting us know what type of phone you have so we can investigate?
Thanks

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 14:28

Hello Merel, we can't replicate that issue at the moment but we'll keep trying! Can you check next time to see if the page is fully loaded before you tap?
Thank you

elQuintoConyo · 30/08/2014 14:31

I have never NEVER had to wait more than 20-30 seconds for a long thread to open on my phone, even one with 900+ posts.

I tried opening this thread on the bus this morning, it took my whole 25 minute journey home to open properly. That's just nuts at least I had surfer-dude eyecandy to entertain myself with ooh naughty then I couldn't post on it, AT ALL. I clicked on the message box until I was blue in the face: nothing, nada, niente.

I turned off the annoying blue buttons because they bled when I scrolled, but the advert at the top of the page has started doing it when I scroll down. It does my head in.

I honestly think this is my cue to "go and do something more interesting instead" (to quote 'Why Don't You" Grin )and come back to Mumsnet in a month or two when things have been fixed. It's too frustrating here to navigate, post, read, scroll. Oh, and halfway through reading a post, or opening a thread, the brightness will just change: from 'dull' to 'superextrawhiteybrighty' dentist-light-bright! I have to keep turning the brightness down!

Hi elQuinto, we're continuing to work on speed but even as it stands it shouldn't be taking that long for you. We'll look more carefully at LG5.

We appreciate your feedback on advert placement and have been listening to many people's feelings about having it fixed in position. We'll be testing out a new approach next week, it'd be good to hear your thoughts on that when we make the change.
Thank you

I've checked on the desktop site, it says bookmarks are switched on, but that it only applies to 'Mumsnet New' style. Sorry if I am being a total dunce here, but could you just confirm I am in fact supposed to do this in 'Customise'? Or is there anothere thing I'm supposed to change as well? natural luddite

Another attempt at posting from
Safari, last time I did get a token post but I had disastrous speed problems when I tried to post again with a few more comments.

I still can't post through the mobile site! When I try, I get the loading circle which just goes on and on. Please fix this. In order to post I either have to switch to desktop mode which is incredibly hard to navigate on a small screen or I have to oust DH from his computer which never goes down well.

Please!! I am in severe withdrawal now.

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 16:08

Hello, can you check what URL you're on? Look at the address bar does it start m.mumsnet.com or www.mumsnet.com?

(It should be www.mumsnet.com)

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 30/08/2014 16:10

Oh my gosh! Thank you for fixing this. I never thought to update my bookmark to www.mumsnet.com rather than m.mumsnet.com.

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 16:19

Excellent! We'll try and work on it our end too to see if there's something we can do.
Thank you all for helping us identify the problem. Thanks

Samsung galaxy and android (I think) [luddite emoticon]

I don't seem to have a report button. Really wanted to report a highly offensive thread. Glad someone else did it.

I also have to tap on a thread about 20 times before it (or some random other thread) loads.

I have about 2 cm of screen visible between the advert at the top and the buttons at the bottom.

Sometimes I cannot post at all no matter how many times I tap the message box.

I have to preview twice before it comes up. Same with post.

Overall its just bloody awful. Where exactly is the improvement?

If I was on an ancient phone I could understand it but I'm not. I'm tied to this contract for another 18 months so I'm stuck with it. I may have to give up on MN completely if this is how it's going to be. Gutted Sad

Hello, I've just tried it on a Samsung Galaxy Android browser and can't currently replicate the issues you describe aabout posting but we'll keep trying so we can work out what's going on for you.

To report a post please press the ellipsis which you'll find on every post and contains lots of options. (Screenshot attached).

If you like you can switch off the bottom buttons by clicking the little person at the top of the screen.

We've been testing this position of the ad and take on board that you aren't keen - we'll be testing a different approach next week it'd be great to hear your thoguhts on that too.

we'll also be introducing ways of reporting threads without needing to click into them soon. Smile

IrenetheQuaint · 30/08/2014 17:35

It's definitely improving for me (Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro, Android 2.3.4, default browser). However, some issues remain:

  • the blue bar isn't really working. Repeated tapping on the Threads I'm On/Active icons usually has no effect but sometimes takes me to a random thread (presumably the one underneath the bar). Occasionally it does work.
  • can't tell whether my post has been posted - gets stuck on the circle of dots and the thread doesn't update. Usually it has actually posted
IrenetheQuaint · 30/08/2014 17:39

(Cont.)

  • can't write more than about 12 lines of text in the posting box - or rather, I can write more but the text isn't visible and I can't move the cursor to it (oddly, this started happening in final days of old mobile site)
  • can't find a 'watch this thread' option anywhere! Where is it?
  • still longing for a 'show all messages' option. Without one it's much harder to use the mobile site while travelling.
livelablove · 30/08/2014 17:45

Looking at the screen shots I think my phone is totally different. The taskbar and advert just stay at the top of the screen great with the ad as i dont want it and dont move. A lot of the pictures are not showing. These are not too bad issues the double posting is the problem. Nokia lumia 900 windows

CoffeeandCakes · 30/08/2014 18:33

It's definitely improving for me thanks - Nexus 5, Android 4.4.4, Chrome. I haven't had a migraine whilst using the site for the last few days, removing the blue bar at the bottom made a huge difference. The ads not moving would be better if possible.

However, it is still a little hard to read with everything being white, and the paragraph spacing on my phone looks a little too large. This thread is the nicest to read as with my posts and the MN posts being highlighted it breaks it up a bit.

The enlarged images still seems to take a long time to load up on some threads - just tried one on this thread and it took about 20 seconds (which doesn't sound long I know!), and are enlarged off screen. They also sometimes move down with scrolling to see the rest of the image, so exiting them is more difficult.

Munchmallow · 30/08/2014 18:37

I've got to grips with the mobile site now but can't find how to watch a thread?

Help please...

JessicaMumsnet · 30/08/2014 18:50

Hello, I promise to return and answer other posters later but just quickly... you can watch a thread by choosing the chevron menu at the top of the page (the downwards arrow).

nickelbabe · 30/08/2014 19:13

jessica I think maxmissie is seeing the same as me - I'm on a different device but on firefox and I've got the chevron at the top left.

and it doesn't do anything when I tap it

Munchmallow · 30/08/2014 19:40

Jessica, like nickelbabe I'm on firefox (the only way I could get the mobile site to work) and tapping the chevron doesn't do anything.

MsMarvel · 30/08/2014 19:53

Oenone that ha issues with trying to click on the blue bar and getting taken to the ad below. I've tried it again and it is working ok. Really don't think it was my issue before, cos I tried it a few times with the same results, but it is possible lol
