Android App "unable to connect with Mumsnet"

Hello. I've had difficulty with the Android app today and can't seem to connect. Is it just me? I keep getting an error message (hopefully I've attached a screenshot). I'm running Android 4.1.2 on a Samsung, if that matters.

Android App "unable to connect with Mumsnet"
OP posts:

You just can't reply as well on the mobile site, it takes so long to load and never looks like it is posting your replies so you end up posting them 18 times. Plus mine does something very weird when I type, when I try and delete text it doesn't actually seem to delete it even though the curser is moving, I have no idea what's gone on...

Still think it is really bad form of HQ not to put a sticky on the front page about the app, they can do it for slow mobile site speeds but not when one of the main ways of accessing MN crashes?

barkingtreefrog · 27/05/2014 12:04

Can we possibly get a sticky update so we know when it's fixed? It's very frustrating to keep trying only to find it's still broken (another one struggling with the mobile site).

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/05/2014 12:15

Any teen worth his weight in technology would have it fixed in a jiffy Grin

InanimateCarbonRod · 27/05/2014 15:35

I've seriously got the shakes now. HOW can I function without the APP!!!

QueenFuri · 27/05/2014 15:55

I miss my app too the mobile site is fiddly to use. Its been 5 days now!!!

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 27/05/2014 19:36

Still no news? Come on. This is getting silly.

mumofboyo · 27/05/2014 20:06

It keeps teasing me! Most of the time, the 'connection failed' message comes up straight away but every now and again it takes a few seconds and I think, "Ooh! It's working! Oh, hang on, no it's not."
Getting fidgety now!

PedantMarina · 27/05/2014 20:10

taps foot, glares at watch

TeaAddict235 · 27/05/2014 20:54

Same problem here. I uninstalled the app then reinstalled it, but to no avail.

On a Sony Xperia btw with android.

UnrelatedToElephants · 27/05/2014 21:54

Me too. Please MN.

Lowesy · 28/05/2014 07:42

Still not working for me either. No update yet?

poocatcherchampion · 28/05/2014 08:04

I reckon they are just going to dump it. They hate the app.

Don't mind us..

Thurlow · 28/05/2014 09:33

I reported a post to try and get a response but they are ignoring even that now Sad I'm going to try again.

Same message as always, HQ. We appreciate that tech stuff can break quite spectacularly. But why why WHY can't you just keep people updated? I'm actually getting quite narked about that now. It's not the break, it's the lack of any message.

You hate the app, don't you, and would rather it broke and we had to pay for one?

cece · 28/05/2014 09:39

Not working for me either.

SparklyMonkeyMummy · 28/05/2014 09:56

Still not working for me either. Its been days now...

lucysmam · 28/05/2014 10:15

Have to say HQ, Thurlow is right, an update would be nice. A lot of us prefer the app to mobile.

RowanMumsnet · 28/05/2014 10:29

Hello

Right - really sorry that you've been left hanging.

We had been thinking that the Android app problems (you are all talking about the Android app, right?) were to do with our ongoing server slow-loading problems - ie, that people's connections were timing out while the server creaked and groaned.

However, server response times seem to have improved and obviously you lot are still having trouble, so it's beginning to look as though that's not the explanation.

We will try to have a concerted look at this today and come back as soon as we have an update.

pointythings · 28/05/2014 10:31

I don't like the mobile site, I want my app back (Google Nexus user here).

Thurlow · 28/05/2014 10:45

So actually no one had actually been looking at the problem for the past 5 days and we're still at square one? Confused

tacal · 28/05/2014 10:47

I am also Google nexus user.

lucysmam · 28/05/2014 10:56

It's not timing out Rowan it literally shows the message in the op almost before you can remove your finger from where the app 'button' is on screen.

Usually if it plays up, I'm left looking at the spinney circle forever but it's not even doing that this time (no idea if it does the same to everyone else).

Thanks for getting back to us, further updates would be good Smile

wigglesrock · 28/05/2014 11:04

It's not timing out - it's not letting me access it all. I'm getting the message in the OP immediately - there's no waiting no buffering, it's not letting me in. I have a HTC phone. I can access MN on my ancient laptop & Kindle Fire but not the phone.

FourForksAche · 28/05/2014 11:20

Yes, it's the android app that's having a problem, it's not accepting connections. I type in my username and password and immediately get a popup displaying the error "connection failed Unable to connect with mumsnet" and a button with the text "try again".

If I try again, same error popup appears repeatedly.

Galena · 28/05/2014 11:50

Yes, same for me on a Samsung Galaxy Note - immediate display of 'Unable to connect to Mumsnet' No timeout, just no nothing! Bah!

PurplePidjin · 28/05/2014 11:56

Mine's still doing it - Android app on Samsung Galaxy Ace. I've reinstalled a couple of times but it's definitely your end I'm afraid SadGin
