Is there any way I can hide the new ruddy 'pin it' etc column on the left hand side?

It's driving me demented.

Sorry cozie - there isn't a way to hide them at the moment we're afraid. Obvs if it's irritating lots of people we'll take a look.

Which version of MN are you on - mobile, desktop or app?

TheCowThatLaughs · 15/05/2014 15:06

It's annoying me too tbh. Why does it have to follow me? I'm on desktop at the moment. It's not on mobile too is it? Sad

Seeline · 15/05/2014 15:07

Really annoying me too - it's gradual appearance is like I'm being stalked.

cozietoesie · 15/05/2014 15:20

On the dekstop version, Rowan.

I think that Seeline hit the nail on the head. It wouldn't annoy me so much if it was just a straight and static appearance - what's irritating is the way it all feeds in gradually, starting with the pnk 'Pin it' and then all the others gradually climbing on board.

YY very annoying flickering in the corner of my vision

Canus · 15/05/2014 15:27

I'm on a desktop and can't see it.

I just have a white margin on the left hand side. I have an ad blocker though, maybe that's why.

PositiveAttitude · 15/05/2014 15:34

Its very irritating!! It follows me as I scroll down the page. I thought it was a virus on my laptop ......after this thread I see it is actually supposed to be there! Hmm

Morgause · 15/05/2014 15:35

Make it go away, please.

OldVikingDudeHidMyTubeSocks · 15/05/2014 15:37

is there not a way of making it opt in like the drop down menu bar thingy?

Fenton · 15/05/2014 15:41

It's very much annoying me too. It's following me.

It's very annoying as it's where I usually leave the cursor (now that having it near the top brings down the drop down menus from there)

I'm running out of places to leave it where I can't accidentally trigger something...

Please give me back my safe area!

AbsentDaughter · 15/05/2014 16:26

For me the mobile site it is awful. Obstructs view and makes me want to not use MN on phone. Desktop is fine for me.

bookcave · 15/05/2014 16:31

It's driving me nuts too. Means I have to keep the cursor on the right all the time. Visually irritating too.

Bunbaker · 15/05/2014 16:41

I am finding the icons extremely irritating. If I want to look at a social networking site I will. I don't need to be constantly reminded of their existence by these annoying icons.

I feel as if I am being hounded to join every social networking site around. Other sites do this, but I am disappointed to see that mumsnet are no better.

Please get rid of them - we aren't teenagers with the attention span of an amoeba

Pretty please

AphraBane · 15/05/2014 16:51

I HATE those scroll down things - they make me feel sea-sick in the same way that a badly-designed Prezi presentation does. I DON'T WANT to pin it and I DON'T WANT to like it. So there. Please give us the opportunity to opt out.

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 15/05/2014 17:34

Please get rid of those awful pin things - like Aphra says, please give us the opportunity to opt out.

I thought I had but it seems they've sneaked back!

LadySybilLikesCake · 15/05/2014 17:38

There's stuff on both sides, so the posts are squashed. There's stuff at the top which takes up half the screen if you accidentally scroll over it with your mouse. It's too much!

cozietoesie · 15/05/2014 18:35

Now that's interesting - there's no 'Pin it column' on boards which might be considered to be 'more sensitive' topics - so it looks as if someone has gone through the boards deciding which shall be linked and which shall not. Perhaps someone will share the rationale?

LeBearPolar · 15/05/2014 18:37

I don't like the way it flickers in to view. Is there really that much demand for it? I've never felt the need to share anything I read on MN with other websites Confused

LadySybilLikesCake · 15/05/2014 18:38

I've made my screen smaller and it's hidden it Smile

FourForksAche · 15/05/2014 18:39

hate it.

RuinedAndNotorious · 15/05/2014 18:40

I'm on the mobile site and it is annoying me too.

LoblollyBoy · 15/05/2014 18:42

I can't really see it, although I can tell it's there now that you mention it. I have Explorer set to 125% magnification, it's too far off too the left on that view to be a nuisance.

QueenYnci · 15/05/2014 19:08

Sorry but it's really annoying, as is the twitter thing on the right-hand side. Whenever I hover near it it pops up with the words 'publicly recommend as...' and panics me for a second. I'm only on facebook for one group and have no interest in sharing MN stuff on there.

Could there be an option to turn it off? I hate MN being all squidged up.
