It's logging me out... again!

Anytime I navigate away from MNet (I know, I do try not to do it, but sometimes I need to look at other sites 'kay? Wink ) I'm logged out and have to log back in again. Even if I have two tabs running, it happens when I switch from one to the other.

I've tried it on a variety of devices and browsers;

  • iPhone running latest software update (7.1?) and using Safari & Chrome.
  • Kindle Fire using Chrome and Silk
  • Laptop running Windows 7 and using Chrome & Firefox. I couldn't bring myself to try IE.

It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying.

Tech did sort it last time, but whatever he/she/they have upgraded has reset it for me (at least!).

Bet the hacker has installed a remote keylogger, to capture usernames/ emails and passwords as they are repeatedly and frantically re-entered

elQuintoConyo · 11/04/2014 21:21

Buggeration. Just had to log in (android phone), but it's been so long since I've had to log in that I'd clean forgotten my password! I had to go hunt down my little black brown book.
First time it's happened on my phone. Haven't checked laptop - currently being hogged by DH.

unlucky83 · 11/04/2014 21:24

Me too laptop, windows 7, firefox with no script running.
Just out of interest -
Why does it matter?
Just means someone else can log in and post as me? Is that it ? Or it there more to it than that?
Is this something to do with heartbleed?

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 11/04/2014 21:24

Remote keylogger? Don't like the sound of that. Confused

unlucky83 · 11/04/2014 21:25

BTW my mumsnet password is rubbish...not very secure but that I thought it didn't really matter - if someone wanted to pretend to be me so what?
I am wrong thinking that?

ShamTech · 11/04/2014 21:26

Please remember if you are using Incognito or Private browsing you will be logged out every time. Other than that it should work as normal. We haven't changed the functionality at all.

unlucky83 · 11/04/2014 21:27

Keylogger?
Firefox remembers my password etc - just press first letter of user name, enter and then enter again....so nothing to keylog

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/04/2014 21:28

I'm not using private browsing

BrianTheMole · 11/04/2014 21:29

Mine keeps logging out. Iphone 5, safari. And the keep me logged in is ticked.

unlucky83 · 11/04/2014 21:29

Shamtech - I have changed nothing - so there really is an issue right now...!

UncrushedParsley · 11/04/2014 21:29

Just got logged out again. Not on private browsing.

imip · 11/04/2014 21:29

It as happened to me three times later today. Thought I'd done it accidentally, glad to see I am not as rubbish at all things IT!

BrianTheMole · 11/04/2014 21:29

Not using private browsing.

LightastheBreeze · 11/04/2014 21:30

I didn't have to retype mine in just clicked on log in. I think safari must have remembered my password, so nothing to key log

ThePortlyPinUp · 11/04/2014 21:32

I keep getting logged out too. (iPad, Safari, not private browsing)

BigArea · 11/04/2014 21:33

Me too - thought it was me the first time but ive had to log back in 4 times now. I'm in safari on iPhone 4 and have keep me logged in ticked

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 11/04/2014 21:33

Mine just logged me out. iPad user here.

Allalonenow · 11/04/2014 21:34

Hello,
I'm having to log in again after each time I leave the site, even though I'm checked for "keep me logged in".
You do know me though, as my user name and email is in a drop down menu box.
I'm using Internet Explorer and my system is Windows Vista.

If I send you lashings of gin will you put it right for me please?

Or I could do the glittery babe luv u hun xxxxx stuff, would that help? Grin

nannynick · 11/04/2014 21:35

Don't panic about keylogging, mumsnet does not install software on your computer. Their own server is what I suspect is the issue, for some reason the cookie(s) is not being set with the correct expiry date is my guess.

Many browsers remember username/password details so will autofill the form. This is normal and to be expected, even mobile browsers will remember what is called FormData.

RunAwayHome · 11/04/2014 21:35

happening to me a lot too.

Firefox on a Mac.

Keep me logged in is ticked, and has worked fine up til now.

ShamTech · 11/04/2014 21:36

unlucky83 and ThePortlyPinUp just using you as examples to get to the bottom of this problem - I can see from our database that the 'keep me logged in' feature is not set on your user record. Could you please tick that when you login again and let me know so I can check again? Thanks

Allalonenow · 11/04/2014 21:38

PS I'm not using Private Browsing, has been happening since late afternoon today.

petmyunicorn · 11/04/2014 21:39

Happened to me for the first time tonight. Anytime I switch tabs on an iPad mini, safari, I'm logged out.

unlucky83 · 11/04/2014 21:39

Nanny - am I right in thinking the worst thing that could happen is someone pretends to be you - uses your user name etc? -
At worst could link usernames when you have name changed?

nannynick · 11/04/2014 21:39

For those on iPad and not using the App (tip: Use the App, it is working)
What happened to cause the logout? Did you open a new tab in the browser? Did the iPad screen lock/power down?

I am suspecting that what is called a Session is being ended by the browser. That event is triggered by various things... on a Windows Desktop system it is triggered by closing the browser (or shutting down the computer, which forces all running apps to close). On an Android Phone it will happen when the Internet app closes itself down from non-activity. I suspect the iPad behaves in a similar way, closing down apps which are not active.
