Why can't I change my nickname?

I go through the motions, change name and enter password to save changes and it just reverts to current name. Very annoying! Any hints?

i wanted to change my name and it reverts back to this one. I am bored of this name now!

Come on MNHQ - it has been weeks since this thread started!!

So you are all going to www.mumsnet.com/member/registration-details and typing your new nickname underneath where it says "Username", typing in your password at the bottom to confirm, and then clicking "Save changes".

Then what happens exactly? Does it refresh the page, but not show you your new nickname or does it just not do anything at all, or do you see any errors or what?

Just to clarify the only way to make a nickname change that 'sticks' is to go to www.mumsnet.com/member/registration-details and change it there.

If you use the option on mobile when you post a message to use one of your previous nicknames, that is only for that single post. It is not a permanent nickname change.

Hi Tech, I go to the top of this page but any thread then tap on

and change it there. It says it's registration details. i then enter my password and click Save Changes. The page reloads with a message at the top saying that the changes have been saved, but my old name will still be in the Nickname box.

At one time, despite it showing the old name both there, and above the message box on whatever thread I went to next, when I clicked Post Message it would actually show on the thread with the new name. From then the new name would show above the message box until I changed again, so would be working properly.

However, the name change no longer works at all. Since sometime it early February it has got harder and harder to get the name to stick, and around the time of this thread starting, it stopped altogether.

(I haven't checked, but I did find at one point that it worked if I used a pc to do it, rather than an iPad, but I don't get access to a pc that easily, so I can't check whether that is still the case.)

Just used your link. It says it's saved the changes, but Jux is showing in the nn box still, and also above this message box while I type. I'll post and see what happens.

if you change the nickname and it says saved.... log out and log back in again. that seems to work!

I could only log in using Jux despite changing my nn to JuxBackFromTheDead.

This post message box is headed Jux.

At one point when I logged out and in again, the new nn would appear once I'd posted, so let's see if that happens.....

Ok, so the only way I can get change my user name is thus:

Change user name, the user name doesn't change.

Log out, then log back in, now my user name has changed. If you change user names twice and then log out, it will log you back in under the one you changed last.

So, to recap, if I change my user name then I have to log out, and then back in again, for the change to appear in the 'add your message here' fields.

Interestingly I now have access to image fields - I've never seen those before, are they just available for this thread???

Oops a bit of X posting on my part

After posting ^^ I went to TIO and got up all the threads I wanted to catch up on, on different tabs. I then read one of them and tried to post on it, but apparently I wasn't logged in. I clicked Log In at the end of the thread, and it brought me straight to TIO without having to log in at all.

I have looked at one of the other threads that I got up, and I'm logged in there.

None of this makes sense.

And my post picture boxes are always greyed out, v frustrating! whycant, I thought they're supposed to be available on Chat only? I am jealous!

Ok we think we've finally got to the bottom of this. Should be fixed now thanks to all your help.
