(cough) NOT!

Plenty of other non-FaceBook sites have "thumbs up" and "thumbs down".

The last time I remember this was asked, MNHQ commented first to say they were monitoring the thread, they went quiet, and despite the rare "bump" don't seem to have bothered to come back with any further thoughts hoping it might be forgotten, perhaps. Though there was a positive comment I have just found from Helen.

Unfortunately those who are against any change (some of whom have put in their two-penneth in this thread) come out to say that MN would not be the same, that it is a rubbish idea, that it might increase "bullying", ad host of other arguments, just wanting the "status quo" I suspect.

Last time, MNHQ said it was a worth considereding, while acknowledging some might not like it, so they felt it should be under user control. Clearly Olivia has her own view but is this now the "officiela line" from MNHQ too, or will you give us an update on what progress has been made, please ?

Also, when it comes to site changes, some are brought in as ideas to/by MNHQ/Tech, implemented, and then MNHQ fends off complaints, and others seem to come from user comments considered to be "good ideas".

I'd ask that MNHQ has a more formal method of making changes where they affect the user interface, and give a month or so for voting and comments to be made before a decision is taken (and justified if it goes against the majority of votes).

Of course it's only a plea for changes to be better explained before they are implemented, and for ideas such as this one not to forever be requested, then "shot down" by a portion of the MN users (and for all we know, the "no" view might only be held by 10% but because many don't spot these threads on Site Stuff, you only get keener MNetters bothering to comment, giving a misleading impression of 'all' users. IE they are hardly "balanced" discussions, and certainly not ones on which decisions should be taken as a belief of some sort of "concensus" having been made!!!!

Also might be time to add a page showing the various features, what they do, and what 'versions' of Mumsnet they apply to. For example, are there features in "new" interface that don't work in 'classic' UI, and others which work for iPad/iPhone, and what about the Android App please ?

"one vote per 500 posts or something"

LOL - some time back I remember a website which produced "popularity" stats about discussion websites based on the number of new threads each week, the number of unique posters, and then some stats on the "highest posters".

Some were hitting 700 a week on MN, but then on closer examination, "word games" in _chat seemed to be the bulk of their posting activity with dozens of posts per thread, so simply "numbers" won't work unless there are ways to exclude certain types of post Grin

We do not need a like button.

I'm good Maryz.
Ds is back from T in the mark so it's nice to have him around, though the rucksack full of mud encrusted clothes is not so nice.
And I'm off on holiday next week to Sharm, two weeks of sun, though this time I'm hopelessly disorganised. I'm not as excited as usual but I will be when I get to the airport.

Can I have an option to hide a poster? It's only fair, if we suddenly get a like button, which won't happen.

bump so MNHQ can come back to clarify the position on this one.

I'll be having an operation tomorrow so don't know when (/if :) ) I will be back, but hope MNHQ can have taken a look at this thread, and not just looked, but posted something, too !

PS I'd certainly agree with the option of "hide poster" (and agreed last time it was suggested too).

ExitPursuedByABear · 11/07/2012 12:56

No.

(That's a complete sentence that is ^^^)
