I have a question. Is this site for Parenets or mums? are only mums parents?

Why does Pom always look like porn ?

technodad · 18/03/2012 22:41

Does he even have a GF......Grin

For some reason, I always see a silhouette of the Hindu god Ganesh when I see the MN logo. I think I might be a little strange though.

It was the OP's silly posts that made me look at the logo in more detail and to be honest I think the person in the middle with the 8 year old (ish) child looks like a bloke and not a woman. It doesn't matter how many times I look at it, I can't see any long hair or shirt-potatoes in that character at all! It looks like a bloke, sitting on a rock, with his kid pointing at a cloud!

The other two adult characters are definitely chicks, so a 33.3% male representation in the logo seems fair to me (in fact, well out of balance by about 13% probably).

It is very easy to make something out of nothing if you really want to!

Just me then?

OP I am neither a Mum or a Dad, and I joined when I was a young adult interested in kids. I am now a nanny. In no way, shape or form am I at all insulted by the name Mumsnet. Nor do I find the name Fathers for Justice offensive (because it should be, by your logic which you're twisting to make it non-offensive). I use AOL though I'm not American (but remain unoffended), MNT Training even though I'm not a Maternity Nurse and Surf shops even though I kayak.

Why would people come here when they are not parents? Because they can, most people aren't petty enough to feel 'excluded' by a name and if they are they obviously aren't grown up enough to use the internet.

For me, MN is the only place online where I feel comfortable. There are no stupid tickers, I can understand what everybody has written and I can ask for advice on anything and expect good, honest answers.

You are clutching at straws.

I am a parent of 2 she is a parent of 3 . TBH I did not know what mothercare sell. And I never knew they sold anything other that maternity wear and children's clothes.
@technodad never been to a pizza express. But many years ago I did work at dominos pizza. And no I did not complain about the name.. lol.. what aer you like. fascinating origin of the name.

In 1960, Tom Monaghan and his brother, James, purchased DomiNick's,[5] a small pizza store in Ypsilanti, Michigan near Eastern Michigan University. The deal was secured by a US$75 down payment and the brothers borrowed $900 to pay for the store. Eight months later, James traded his half of the business to Tom for a used Volkswagen Beetle. As sole owner of the company, Monaghan renamed the business Domino's Pizza, Inc. in 1965. In 1967, the first Domino's Pizza franchise store opened in Ypsilanti. The company logo was originally planned to add a new dot with the addition of every new store, but this idea quickly faded as Domino's experienced rapid growth. The three dots represent the stores that were open at the time (1969).[6] By 1978, the franchise opened its 200th store.

And yet domino's pizza is not gender specific. It was originally, was domiNick's and was changed. Can Mumsnet not evolve thus?

But why should mumsnet evolve?

DioneTheDiabolist · 18/03/2012 23:01

Smthchri, what did you tell your GF when she asked you why you were here?

MamaMaiasaura · 18/03/2012 23:02

Mumsnet is constantly evolving, that's because it's got forward thinking people in it. I've been here almost 8 years and it changes with times. The name is the name, it doesn't need rebranding. It's clear op is a bridge dweller and member of FFJ and it is groups like that, which aren't rooted in support but in bullying tactics that need to grow the fuck up and evolve

technodad · 18/03/2012 23:16

smthchri,

Wikipedia is brilliant isn't it!

I am not sure the relevance of the Domino's cut and paste though. Yes they changed their name, but when they had 4 restaurants, they would be idiots to change it now that they have an international brand name (and so would MN).

Why did their name "evolve" in a non-gender specific way? That is like saying that any brand name with a gender specific name in it is sexist. "Gale's Nail Bar" - Stone the witch for using her name in her title - men won't be allowed in there to pay good money for her services!

I think you need to get a grip mate. If you are going to try to argue this strange subject, then you will need to find something that is relevant.

Honeydragon · 18/03/2012 23:18

The op must have some serious issues with Daddies sauce, Mr Muscle, Wagamama and Fairy Liquid. Topshop and Topman? How do you get anything done?

smthchri · 18/03/2012 23:21

F4J are protesting about the courts system.. Having been both a Child threw this system and many years later a father. I feel strongly that F4J are right even if I don't always approve of their methods. On more than one occasion I have been to court and have walked away with a court order in my favor only to find out it is unenforceable, and basically useless and a waste of time and money. And on more than one occation I have been to court and had a court order drawn up where I knew it was unenforceable where the court would not make the order water tight (for want of a better word) as they did not want to get involved.. then only a few months later find myself going back to court as the order was broken.. well contact was not what we agreed in court (not in the order) to change the order to the way I said it would have to be before.

Basicly I feel the court system at the moment is long, drawn out process. Where all this has been done before. I am sure their must be a more streamlined system possible.. where lies told on either side should be punished.

OP posts:
Honeydragon · 18/03/2012 23:23

So basically you're here to mostly talk about F4J then?
