Because there are so many. And they are so unpleasant.

Pretty please...

Yy, surely they belong in politics?

Sevenfold · 27/01/2012 17:14

ffs so accusing someone of making up their disability isn't personal.
also the constant DLA is more than waring it is downright obscene

Pagwatch · 27/01/2012 17:14

I can understand all of that and I accept what you say.

But fwiw and from where I am sitting I think the resentment and upset that is being created is damaging.

I think it is truly dividing the board in a way I have not seen before and I have been here years. Well, perhaps with the exception of the mcann situation which is possibly why I reached for that as a comparison.

It is awful. Just awful. And really hard to watch.

I haven't really become involved but the fallout is contaminating so many areas of the board. It is just sad.

Political debate? So let's move them all to politics, no? There have been occasions when half of active convos is full of this stuff. I have AIBU hidden so it may be even worse than that.

Can we have an indication in the thread titles that there is going to be benefit discussion please? Then I can just hide straight from active convos.

TeWihara · 27/01/2012 17:16

I don't personally feel this is a left/right issue.

Obviously left wing people are more likely to be against it from the start, but having looked into it quite a few right wing people have agreed it is a horrendous piece of legislation that leaves ALL families in the south east incredibly vulnerable.

I'm actually quietly surprised that HQ has been doing work about it themselves, as prior to the House of Lords amendments there was just no protection for anyone at all, even if you've worked full time since you were 16... even now with child benefit excluded (if that isn't overturned) it's still not great.

Sevenfold · 27/01/2012 17:17

if we can have a topic for the royal wedding and other random stuff, why not for benefit bashing.

FoofFighter · 27/01/2012 17:19

I would class myself as right wing ffs so no I totally do not accept that MNHQ.

FoofFighter · 27/01/2012 17:23

It would feel odd to us to insist that those on one side of that argument had to stick to one thread when we have always adopted a politically neutral position - we are for all mums not just mums of the left or right.

We aren't asking for one thread, but for a topic.

You already have a Legal and Money board that would easily encompass Benefits.

You have topics on every other thing which could broadly be just put under parenting but you felt the need to seperate it into toddler, babies, step children, adopted children etc so really what is the difference here?

Sad

@Hullygully

Yy, surely they belong in politics?

We'd be more than happy to move threads to Politics or even In the News. Do report ones that might have strayed...

CalatalieSisters · 27/01/2012 17:33

What an odd thread. I haven't clicked on any of the benefits cap threads because I can anticipate the sputum that might be posted there. But it is a very strange request that, over and above the rules about no personal attacks and "making parents' live easier" there ought to be a specific corralling of Tory bullshit about benefits. It looks like people identifying so much with MN that they want their Active Conversations list to reflect their politics. You can do that on Twitter you know, sculpt your timeline to express your personality. It is an odd thing to ask of MN.

Can i also add that it isn't stifling debate to put all discussion into one thread.

I wasn't suggesting that only one side of the debate were put in one area. I just think it is practical to have one thread. Whoever clicks on that thread can say what they like, within the guidelines of course . It just isn't swamping the whole board.

I was only joking with my 'kettle them and don't let them urinate'

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 27/01/2012 17:41

Yes yes.
Putting them all in politics would help.

I could just hide it for a while

Catalie

No where have I said I want one particular viewpoint stifled.

The fact that the threads become unpleasant is just fact. I attribute no blame for that. There are just lots and list of them and they are all bunfights.

Assuming that I have a particular point of view because I don't like a proliferation of bunfights threads is a bit of a leap.

I wanted all the McCann threads combined. And the Christmas ones. I am nit particularly strident in my views about Santa or tinsel

yellowraincoat · 27/01/2012 17:48

I'm so sick of benefits threads.

Why can't people just be PLEASANT?

[quote Pagwatch]Yes yes.

FoofFighter · 27/01/2012 17:51

yy to politics thank you Heken

HelenMumsnet · 27/01/2012 17:54

@FoofFighter

yy to politics thank you Heken

Just to clarify, we'll move them to Politics/In the News if that's where they clearly belong - ie the OP has clearly started them in the wrong topic.
Do report to us any threads that fit the bill...

Pagwatch · 27/01/2012 17:57

What are you pointing at Helenmumsnet? Do I have something on my face ?

I was agreeing with your suggestion to move them. Am I being thick?

Actually don't answer that.

Yes move all of them to politics. Don't let them urinate

OP posts:
FoofFighter · 27/01/2012 18:09
