OCCUPY MUMSNET continues......

Justine, that was a little topical joke, please don't ban me! Grin

Hullygully · 08/11/2011 16:45

It's either that or make up sex and I have broken my hip

Pinot · 08/11/2011 16:45

Thanks Howling :) :) I am irritatingly proud of them!

Greensleeves · 08/11/2011 16:45

wow, that was FAST HQ

And kind of pathetic

Pinot · 08/11/2011 16:46

weeps 'ello love

LeBOF · 08/11/2011 16:46

I hate this too. I hate fucking miserable inquests, and I hate people sticking the boot into posters who aren't here, and I hate unfair arbitrary decisions on what constitutes a personal attack.

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 08/11/2011 16:46

Narky:
It was because she had been warned and banned before. It was because she had form. It was because she had been asked to moderate her tone and did not on this occasion. It was because there were many complaints about her. Surely you cannot have not known this if you'd read the thread?

Hullygully · 08/11/2011 16:47

See Calatalie?

See how it is returning to the point after its breather?

GinSlinger · 08/11/2011 16:49

I've wasted bloody hours reading this thinking 'PARD' PARD PARD and then blardy Pagwatch gets in there first. Thanks

PARD

Northernlurker · 08/11/2011 16:49

I think the personal attack thing is one of those variable verbs:

I am entitled to my opinion
You are going a bit far
She is a total bitch

LeBOF · 08/11/2011 16:49

It wasn't an attack that she got banned for, though, Bibs, in the opinion of very many. It was a statement of fact with some opinion thrown in, and completely justifiable under the circumstances. What some other people posted was definitely out of order, but not what DBF got collared for on that occasion. So it doesn't seem just to me, regardless of how irritating HQ were finding her.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/11/2011 16:50

I am very good at making coffee - it is a skill I practice on a daily basis - so can I help be in charge please? Even though I have disagreed with people on here?

Will come back later for an answer - I have spent hours typing up the AGM minutes of a committee I am on, and am going to treat myself to a celebratory mars bar as a reward. If you let me be in your gang, I will bring mars bars for everyone. [bribe emoticon]

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 08/11/2011 16:50

But, without wanting to set you up with more deleting to do HQ, there was a certain poster whose name contained that of a well known budget fashion retailer who was banned for some questionable stuff and allowed back. And they're not the only one.

There is a lot of trolling for attention on this site. People invest time and energy supporting posters who post that they're in bad situations. Those posters are allowed to come back.

No-one doubts DBF's motives even on the occasions when she has taken things too far. Her heart is always in the right place.

GinSlinger · 08/11/2011 16:50

Pag - have you really broken your hip? I'm so out of touch

I've been busy doing the real life thing of having a new DGC and having to go round and wrench the child away from its awful DM and feed it chocolate and fruitshoots while the slattern cleans the house.

HowlingBitch · 08/11/2011 16:51

Go on..

Hullygully · 08/11/2011 16:51

it was age-related Gin. Say nowt, bit sensitive.

Maryz · 08/11/2011 16:53

This reply has been deleted

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Elibean · 08/11/2011 16:54

I still think banning is not the way.

Bit like exclusions at school, may be needed very very very very very rarely, but most of the time wrongly used.

GinSlinger · 08/11/2011 16:55

thanks Hully
Maryz - as a grandmother in her 50s I find your remark brutal and personal and I shall have you banned

MmeLindor. · 08/11/2011 16:55

What did Greensleeves say? I refreshed and it was posted and gorn before I could read it.

Do you think there is some poor bugger at MNHQ hovering over this thread, gin in one hand a red DELETE button in the other?

Pagwatch · 08/11/2011 16:56

It is a gimmer joke. My hips don't lie are fine

Not a funny one but I can't swear and stuff now. I am exploring illness, weather and knitting related humour.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 08/11/2011 16:56

Maybe some sort of voting system would work for what constitutes a personal attack not too dissimilar to the daily mail comments section ?
Maybe all racist/homophobic/rape-joke etc comments could be deleted straight away, but "personal attacks" left to the other posters to police? And then obviously, too many deleted messages and your account is suspended/deleted. Perhaps once a comment is complained about, it opens a "does this constitute a personal attack", "yes/no" box. With votes hidden and private obv.
Maybe with a set number of deletions allowed for everyone, so it's less open to interpretation and HQ arent blamed as the rules and consequences are very clear
Surely that would ensure it was fair, without introducing moderators or making it harder for HQ?

GinSlinger · 08/11/2011 16:57

Oh I've been doing that for years Pag - but I still find room for cake and gin

Pinot · 08/11/2011 16:57

Pag you made a Shakira gag!

OrmIrian · 08/11/2011 16:58

I think it was more likely gin-related TBH

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 08/11/2011 16:58

She did moderate her tone.

She wasn't being vile.

She was defending herself against accusations of lying and responding to a very emotive thread.

People on that thread who did make personal comments were not banned.
