Ahoy hoy mnhq - you aren't going to do anything about AIBU, are you?

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 24/10/2011 21:55

You are sticking your fingers in your ears and going la la la and pretending not to notice that aibu is just awful?

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 24/10/2011 21:56

What do you want them to do about aibu?

ScaredTEECat · 24/10/2011 21:58

Perhaps MNHQ, like many of their members, enjoy AIBU.

SoupDragon · 24/10/2011 21:58

Here's a top tip... Hide the AIBU topic.

ASuitableGirl · 24/10/2011 22:00

I hide the topic. Occasionally peep in at it and remember why I have hidden it Grin. Hiding it makes my Active Conversations a calmer (if potentially slightly less interesting) place.

NormanTebbit · 24/10/2011 22:00

What? just because you don't like it?

GypsyMoth · 24/10/2011 22:03

Is there a reason for this?

purplewerepidj · 24/10/2011 22:09

If you don't like it, don't go in it Confused

rycooler · 24/10/2011 22:11

It's the best section on here - hide it if you don't like it, easy enough.

Northernlurker · 24/10/2011 22:17

I think people use the aibu tag to say whatever hell unreasonable cruel thing they like. There was a thread last week which really upset me - and caused a number of mumsnetters to leave the site - but it was aibu so it just kept running because apparently it's all about debate Hmm

531800000008 · 24/10/2011 22:17

Bibbers

hide it

hide great swathes of MN by going to customise, clicking through to Ignore Topics (have to scroll down for the clicky place thingie) selecting all, then transfer back a few topics

keep chat, camping, S and B, sleb twaddle, in the news, Christmas too if you like

then MN looks a LOT like the olden dayes, active convos take hours to move down your page and all much more restful

GypsyMoth · 24/10/2011 22:21

Which thread caused people to leave?

ThePumpkinofDoomandTotalCha0s · 24/10/2011 22:22

agree northern and bibbity, but as it's such a popular section, seems a desire for the vitriol to be toned down signficantly is rather a minority opinion, meh.

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 24/10/2011 22:26

I do already hide great swathes of Mumsnet that does not interest me.

But why should I be forced to hide the entire AIBU topic just because people cannot or will not use it properly?

Why can't mnhq moderate just a tiny bit so that the threads in the topic actually make sense?

TheFallenMadonna · 24/10/2011 22:28

It's the dodgy titles rather than the bunfights?

wannaBe · 24/10/2011 22:31

I think ibu has a lot to answer for in terms of the way posters feel it has become acceptable to treat other posters. I also think that a lot of the attitudes gained in ibu have spilled over to the rest of the site. It's not uncommon to see on another topic "yabu." with no explanation or a tirade of abuse that follows.

Can you imagine the horror if a school set up a fight corner for the kids where basically anything goes and the onus is on the one asking for help to accept their fate?

Cheeseandseveredfingersarnie · 24/10/2011 22:31

haha-they are listening.ones being moved as we 'speak'.

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 24/10/2011 22:43

Is that the ebay one cheesey?

They hardly ever do it, though.

I reckon more than 50% of aibu threads are in the wrong topic.

OP posts:
bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 24/10/2011 22:45

And they are all being archived for posterity too!

Hq: how about deleting them all after 3 months, like the Chat threads? (as has been suggested several times before)?

OP posts:
Cheeseandseveredfingersarnie · 24/10/2011 22:46

yep.
i agree but i have to guiltily confess to liking aibu.it does wind me up when you get ones like aibu to wear nail varnish today?or aibu to read this book?etc.and it is incredibly bitchy.i think sometimes posters forget theyre are real people asking for opinions/advice.

Cheeseandseveredfingersarnie · 24/10/2011 22:47

thats a good comprimise.

OliviaMumsnet · 24/10/2011 22:53

Thanks for this
TSSDNCOP

BecauseImAWerewolefIt · 24/10/2011 22:57

Olivia - TSSDNCOP does not mean you can ignore threads ...

Cheeseandseveredfingersarnie · 24/10/2011 23:01

what does tssdncop mean Confused?

OTheHugeWerewolef · 24/10/2011 23:02

bibbity, your one-woman crusade to End AIBU is as puzzling as it is funny Grin

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 24/10/2011 23:05
