Can we have a [star] emoticon, pretty please?

MNHQ have asked me to start a thread here in Site to see how much support there is for a Star.

The original request is here.

Hundreds of Mumsnetters have worked together since the beginning of the year to produce woolly blankets for Rinders, Blondes and a blanket and quilt for Edgar. Our current project is here: 3 blankets for the children of Magic8
Since beginning these projects, we have used [stars] to thank all contributers and supporters. We would really like to be able to give a proper Star to those wonderful people who have given their time, donated, or created in order to provide what comfort we could to those families who have lost their loved ones.

If you would like to support us, please post below.

Many thanks.

Agree with Beer - lovely idea but is there another way of awarding it other than via an emoticon - maybe a request into MNHQ from X number of people.

mumatron · 25/08/2011 12:56

You've got my support knotty

KnottyLocks · 25/08/2011 12:57

I know what you're saying, BeerTricks. On a site this size, I guess that will alawys be an issue.

Bit of a shame for it to be the only reason we don't have one though.

I suspect that some will consider it a step too close to sparkly tickers...

So a plain gold simple little star would suffice.

yes please for a Star.

lia66 · 25/08/2011 13:00

definately a Star :)

KnottyLocks · 25/08/2011 13:01

Cheers, BeerTricks.

I'm chuckling at using stars for nefarious purposes Grin

What do we want? A star emoticon!

When do want one? Now!! (please MNHQ).

KnottyLocks · 25/08/2011 13:12

We can always count on you, Cakey.

Perhaps we should knit and crochet some placards.

ComeWhineWithMe · 25/08/2011 13:17

We need a star.

Thumbwitch · 25/08/2011 13:18

Perhaps it could be an unlisted emoticon, like Bear is - then people will be less aware of its existence, so it is unlikely to be used maliciously?

But yes please, a star would be good :)

alibubbles · 25/08/2011 13:18

etoile, sterne, astra, stella, hoshi, estrella, najoom, hvězda, tähti stjärna,
zvezda, mga tala, but a gold STAR would do just fine

KnottyLocks · 25/08/2011 13:19

oooo, Thumb, that's a good idea.

mistlethrush · 25/08/2011 13:19

Can we have a nice, plain, no nonsense one like they have on skype? Don't need a fancy one.

I've even got used to the canabis leaf on the mug by now.... Wink

LadyWellian · 25/08/2011 13:20

What Thumbwitch said.

thelittlefriend · 25/08/2011 13:21

What do we want?

A star

When do we want it?

Now!! (or as soon as you can please thank you very much MNHQ)

Blatherskite · 25/08/2011 13:28

It's a lovely idea but I can see it being abused or at least mis-used which would detract from it's meaning

KnottyLocks · 25/08/2011 13:31

That's the thing I'm trying to get my head around, Blather.

There must be a way...

OP posts:
pinkthechaffinch · 25/08/2011 13:32

Is there a way that MNHQ could add the stars to appear after the person's username for a temporary period, of 6 weeks say,

ie

pinkthechaffinch*

  • = gold star

I would like that very much.

KnottyLocks · 25/08/2011 13:33

Or maybe have them for use only during a blanket project?

They manage that with the Easter, Halloween and Christmas emoticons.

OP posts:
pinkthechaffinch · 25/08/2011 13:34

or even 6 months! Lol

KnottyLocks · 25/08/2011 13:35

Or have them so that only a selected few know the secret word?
