What luxury or good quality items have you received or bought for yourself that you think stand the test of time and bring you joy?

Big birthday coming up so I plan to drop heavy hints to DH and also treat myself over the course of the year.

These can be wearable items or home goods and gadgets. They can be expensive (up to low thousands) or much less.

They can be items that finally made you feel like a grown up but that bring you a rush of wonder when you use them.

I’m after quality or beauty or practicality rather than anything super fashionable.

Sadly budget won’t stretch to car or holiday home! And I don’t have the capacity for more pets. I’m good at coming up with experiences gifts so it’s just cold, hard, material goods I’m after!

A vintage classic Burberry trenchcoat.

Gold Rolex watch, bought with inheritance from my Dad. Every time I check the time, I think ‘thanks, Dad’.

I would go for a nice watch. And a nice necklace. Also a lovely piece of artwork. Or rug. I reckon I could come up with a lot 😁

Diamond stud earrings, which I only take out to exercise (no jewellery allowed). Bought myself some to stick two fingers up at the cancer I thought I'd beaten (well, the oncology team had beaten). I now need to trade them in for a bigger pair. That'll do it!!!

Books from the Folio Society. They are beautiful and I love looking at them on my shelf.

Any links? I’m not a big watch wearer… But art and jewellery and rugs sound great.

I adore Maison Aussoline in Picadilly for incredible coffee table and travel books. I don’t have an actual coffee table though and our shelves are full!

My husband bought me this watch and I genuinely love it. It’s so easy to wear and isn’t showy but is beautiful. I’ve had it a few years and still adore it the same.

I love Margo Selby rugs (and everything else she does!)

We plant loads of tulips of different varieties every year and they bring me joy in the spring.

@mcmuffin22 I’m currently reclining on some Margo Selby cushions. I have several throws and have been coveting her rugs for a while but never known which one I loved enough.

Cartier panthere. Absolutely timeless. I bought it for myself to reward myself for getting through some of the worst things you could imagine

I would see if you can visit a showroom and get the idea of colours in real life. Go for something bold!

If you are remotely into nice smelling things, I sometimes treat myself from a company called Norfolk Natural Living. Massive fan of their hand cream in particular but it's not cheap so I definitely have to ration myself!

They have a couple of boutiques I believe, I've only been to the one in Aldeburgh! But they have one in London too I think

I’m going to update my own thread with suggestions as this seems to be dying perhaps because we all feel broke! I had hoped to create a bit of escapism but maybe it just highlights how basics have gone up so much that there is little left for luxuries.

I have a friend who is well off but I wouldn’t say filthy rich. She always has amazing vintage finds such as a Launer handbag, mid century brutalist rings with real diamonds, Ferragamo shoes etc.

I remember another very well off friend would order monogrammed Mason Pearson hairbrushes from Liberty as Christmas gifts.

I would like to find my equivalent…
