Just that really, they are a bit out of my comfort zone, im normally skinny jeans and a baggy top, no fashion at all, im 5ft 3 and a size 12. We will be going out for a drink afterwards on the afternoon,,,,,minus the children 😂

You weren't rude to the clothes! You were rude about the OP. You seem to forget we can read what you wrote.

it's one thing to say 'they're a bit boring, you could do better' & what you wrote

it’s a perfectly fine outfit if your aim is to look as boringly dressed as you possibly can.

I’m years and years older and wouldn’t consider such a drab outfit

its not the S & B board, and no the regulars over there are not nasty.

its a shame. In all those years you haven't learnt any manners.

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 11/04/2025 07:43

Thank you for all some of the replies. I tried the outfit on last night, I was going for casual but not my usual skinnies and black whatever. I felt comfortable in it and quite smart for me. I have not purchased the bag, i've opted for something else I already own, but daren't comment now 😂

For some of the other comments - I don't feel old, I know I am not old, I feel stuck in a rut with my clothing, i'm a bit out of touch with what people are wearing out, I am a bit self conscious of my weight and to be honest do not get out to social occasions often (ever), hence me asking for opinions.

I have 3 DGC, I was initially going to be given the title grandma, it sounded wrong and i pictured my own grandma who always seemed old, so we opted for nana, and I am very active with them. This party is in a wacky warehouse type setting so I know I will be in the ball pool at some point and down the slide. I do not think this is on occasion for sequins or a silky palazzo pants. The pub afterwards is a wetherspoon type establishment and it is a casual occasion just me and DH, hopefully in the beer garden.

nana I associate with age 70’s/80’s not 49
That's nice to know but so what?

@BlossomBlossomBlossom
The OP asks for opinions on a possible collection of items which she might wear together. I think she could do better, and have said so.
That is how the S&B board works.

But it's not on the S and B board though.

@*SpringIsSpringing25
I have never been a nana and never shall be. Nanna, grandma, Nanny, grannie, Gee, are all options. Nana - nope. Nana says a twit to me.,
How is this relevant? OP asked for and opinion on an outfit, not what name her grandchildren should call her.

some of the comments on here are bonkers.
OP wants to know if an outfit is nice and people are coming on telling us the age of their kids ot that they haven't got grandchildren. Who cares, do you like the combo she's chosen or not?

I hate the way sometimes works on here, it's made it look like it was me that said that about Nana & it certainly wasn't. My Nana was my absolute world and many years later I still miss her very much. She was anything but a twit!!

My weight fluctuates, so I only spend on shoes and bags really, because i won't grow out of them 😂

We have a big TK Maxx just on the way out of town, I will take a look, thank you

I can understand that🥴

But I hope TK Maxx turns up something good for you🤗

EDIT: i've just read your next post. Something you already have sounds perfect!!

It's perfectly suitable for the occasion and I hope you feel good and have a lovely day!!

Great outfits but stop thinking of yourself as old. You're 49! Loads of people including me have or had) primary school children at this age, and barely feel middle aged!

PrettayGood · 11/04/2025 08:27

Derailing somewhat, but how do you pronounce ‘nana’? As in banana? Or as in ‘nanna’?

It’s not a term we’ve ever used in my family.

DevonCreamTeaPlease · 11/04/2025 08:46

Why on earth do you think you're old at 49 and what's being a Gran got to do with it?

You're a young woman!

If you think you're old at 49 maybe rethink that?

Nan Na - short 'a' like in cat.

TwinklyNight · 11/04/2025 09:04

I like the outfit OP.

AgentJohnson · 11/04/2025 09:32

Your body shape is important, your age is less so. You are short and if you have wide hips, cropped jackets will not be very flattering.

AllTheTreesOfTheField · 11/04/2025 10:27

Westfacing · 10/04/2025 13:36

I'm 70 and I'd wear that outfit - you're only 49!!

Don't match your trainers and bag - I think that's very 'nana' Grin

Same age as you, and will be wearing a similar outfit to a Summer gig. Agree with never match shoes and bag! big nana mistake, HUGE! 😂

As in Nanna (Na-Na), maybe its a regional thing?

BobbyBiscuits · 11/04/2025 11:30

I particularly like the top. The whole ensemble is cute, maybe a white or even a pink Adidas?
I think the cropped jacket would suit someone with quite a long torso. I can't really wear that type of style as I have a short torso!

bigraspberry · 11/04/2025 11:34

How about this?

Looks a nice outfit, I particularly like the jacket.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 11/04/2025 13:05

SpringIsSpringing25 · 10/04/2025 23:50

How rude.

There is nothing twit about Nana.

I think she’s possibly reading it as Narna, as in banana?! And I don’t know anyone who calls themselves that 😂

EnjoythemoneyJane · 11/04/2025 13:07

Sorry, just seen I’m a bit late to the thread ‘banana’ sidebar 😂

mondaytosunday · 11/04/2025 13:08

Don’t like the frilly top (personal preference) and jeans - hard the faux distressed look - but normal jeans and regular T outfit is fine.

Moveoverdarlin · 11/04/2025 15:12

Crazybaby123 · 10/04/2025 20:44

I'm mid 40s and I have young dcs so 49 is still young mum to me. The outfits lovely :)

That’s what I think, I’m 44 and got kids in infant school, as have most of my friends. Forget being a Nana, you’re a woman in your 40s.

Whitetruck · 11/04/2025 15:17

I really like that. Not a Nana but over 50, like clothes but no real fashion knowledge. To me they look stylish yet easy to wear, and a bonus with comfortable shoes.

BellaVita · 11/04/2025 15:20

Of course they are ok, you will look lovely.

I am a 60 year old nannie and wear clothes like that. Age is just a number!

Have a lovely time.

TakeMe2Insanity · 11/04/2025 17:48

tweetypi · 10/04/2025 15:55

You’re only in your 40s?! Maybe don’t associate with the ‘nana’ label so much, you sound like you’re in your 80s!

This!!!

Bestevercatmum · 11/04/2025 18:44

Plain white crew neck t shirt and darker wash jeans would be better. Jacket is nice. Don’t be old before your time!
