Assuming you haven’t started this thread for a laugh, @theressomanytinafeysicouldbe - it’s a perfectly fine outfit if your aim is to look as boringly dressed as you possibly can be.

I assume you mentioned being a grandmother because it’s a children’s party? The good thing about your chosen items is that they’re all easily washable (not the footwear and bag) but that’s the best that could be said about them.

If you want to make the outfit more exciting choose one piece of clothing in a different fabric and texture. Why not a pink sequinned skirt? Or silky palazzo pants in a brighter pink print? Or wear the jacket with a linen sundress?

(You did ask. I’m years and years older and wouldn’t consider such a drab outfit.)

I know you’ve had a bit of flack with your comments @BlossomBlossomBlossombut I totally agree. I clearly live on a different planet with all the posters describing this outfit as ‘perfect’. I’m in my 60’s and the only place I’d wear this outfit is to do the decorating. As Blosson said, if you won’t wear a dress or skirt, (my style is very flamboyant and boho,) I’d be ditching the jeans and getting some palazzo pants and some bright flat sandals. I’ve just been on holiday to Sri Lanka with a group of 60 somethings and I was complimented everyday on my beautiful dresses to the point several ladies went out and bought themselves something similar. Not only much nicer than the drab trouser and t-shirt combos they were wearing but also much more comfortable and cool.

XiCi · 13/04/2025 10:52

I take it that you weren't knee-deep in ball pits and whizzing down slides with 4 year olds in your beautiful dresses TrinityClover 😂. It's an outfit for soft play grandkids party she wants not a holiday in Sri lanka

Thing is I would 😂😂😂And always did including the time I had to rescue my son from the top level of a Wacky Warehouse when he got stuck!

CoastalCalm · 13/04/2025 11:43

Personally I’d go with either pink jacket and a white top or even a light grey - not keen on the two tone pink approach

What a mean post! The OP has chosen her outfit, she was only looking for reassurance. Decorating indeed, what a horrible thing to say.

Christine1998 · 13/04/2025 15:28

any update? Has the event happened? I’d love to know if u enjoyed wearing your planned outfit.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 13/04/2025 16:36

I agree with TrinityClover The OP asked for something suitable to wear at a children's party- all that "nearly 50 year old nana" stuff is irrelevant.

One where she will likely have to wade into a ball pit and be going down slides in a soft play followed by a meal with all the family in a chain pub

It's a very long time since I was at this type of party but I don't recall ever being in the ball pit or going down the slides- are adults even allowed on the equipment?

Viviennemary · 13/04/2025 17:50

I'm not personally keen on the outfit at all.but if you like it that's what matters. Most folk on the thread seem to think it's great.

runningpram · 13/04/2025 19:04

I don’t think it’s the grandma thing or people deluding themselves - it’s just the implication that 49 is so v old that a perfectly nice pink jacket might make people think you’re mutton dressed as lamb!! What has struck a nerve is that the post somewhat plays into the belief that a slightly older women have play by tight societal rules to be worthy. Lots of us feel that pressure sadly but 49 feels far too young to be giving into it - if you ever should at all.
Let’s face it 49 IS most definitely middle aged but if you were unfortunate enough to die tomorrow - you would feel far, far too young.
I think your outfit looks lovely op btw!

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 14/04/2025 07:45

Thank you for all the replies. I don't think i'm old 😂. I just normally have skinny jeans and a black top on.

It was on Saturday, I got ready but changed my mind on the jeans - they looked great when I was stood up but I felt huge in them when I sat down, weren't very flattering IMO. I had a pair of skinny jeans, same colour, and wore them instead but with the top and the jacket. I felt great, got complimented on the top and the jacket. I did wear the jeans yesterday as they were comfortable but that was just visiting relatives and doing the shopping - my dad commented that they were new but had holes in them, why? 😂

The reason I went for paler colours is because i have very pale skin and grey/white/blond hair.

I was up the slide and up the top of the soft play. Sadly no ball pool 😆

Very trendy and classy! Love it!

Mora80 · 14/04/2025 15:12

Absolutely. Whatever you are comfortable with.

Ponderingwindow · 14/04/2025 15:19

I had to read the op several
times to make my brain understand what was going on. It’s not even a crazy age. Two generations having babies at 25 equals 50 yo nana, but I’m in my 50s and my only is still a teenager in school.

anyway, that is a long way of saying, you don’t have to dress like a grandmother just because you are a grandmother.

Souredgrapes · 14/04/2025 21:43

Love the jacket , I’m going to look for that . Thank you for the suggestion . X

tweetypi · 10/04/2025 15:55

You’re only in your 40s?! Maybe don’t associate with the ‘nana’ label so much, you sound like you’re in your 80s!

This is what I was going to say. You’re a 49 year old woman, nana is irrelevant to style or fashion. My cousin became a ‘nanna’ in her late thirties.

To add, when I was 49 I had a 6 yr old and an 8 yr old.

Tawnybean · 15/04/2025 14:30

I'm a 65 year old Nanna , and wear whatever I want. Skinny jeans flared.cropped boot cut etc. Your a youngster at 50 those look a great choice and don't let society dictate what you wear.
Enjoy your life and bet your grandkids love a trendy role model.

Grammarnut · 15/04/2025 23:54

Looks nice. Stylish. I would wear the jacket and trousers, but not the top (something more fitted and less frilly) but that's me. I am a great-grandmother.

SpikySausage · 16/04/2025 13:28

I'm only 7 years younger than you and have toddlers! When I'm your age I'll be still needing to be trendy mum. I think you should stay away from nana for at least another 10 years, maybe 20.

Twinklewonderkins · 18/04/2025 12:39

I think wear what you want but also found the Nana thing odd. I’m in my 50s and have high school age kids still. I wear similar clothes to what I always have but do adapt with trends.
I’m loving extra wide leg jeans rn with tops that finish at the waist or tucked in, a slight platform shoe and my AllSaints Leather jacket.
when I opened the post I expected it to be advice about buying an outfit for an 80+ lady that needed support with shopping.
Wear whatever you like op, age shouldn’t come into it and I hope you had a good party.

TheSilentSister · 18/04/2025 20:30

I'd wear that outfit OP and I'm a bit older than you (not a Nana). I'd also match the bag to the shoes.

Defo don't wear pink sequins and bright pink palazzo pants - it's not an 80's disco or cocktails in some flash bar in London.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 19/04/2025 14:13

For me(I'm a couple of years younger), I like the jeans (may have to order them), the top is nice and so is the jacket. It's all very 'safe' though and too much pink. I'd probably wear a different jacket but that's just me and I live in leather/suede biker jackets.

It's a children's birthday party not a glam night out so definitely not sequins and silk palazzo pants.

On another note, I don't know what's going on with this site but people are really rude in S&B recently.

BlondeCircus · 20/04/2025 18:51

I never ever consider my age when I wear clothes and I’m 2 years off 70. As long as I look groomed stylish very little makeup. Very little jewellery I’m set to go. Wear what you want and be happy!

I find it funny that you define yourself as a Nana. Most of my friends are similar age to you and still have kids in primary school.

Do not present yourself as a Nana, you’re doing yourself a disservice!

TessTimoney · 24/04/2025 21:28

I love everything except the frilly sleeve top. A pink/white striped shirt will look fab and is very on trend at the moment. See M&S, Next, Zara, ASOS....
