Just that really, they are a bit out of my comfort zone, im normally skinny jeans and a baggy top, no fashion at all, im 5ft 3 and a size 12. We will be going out for a drink afterwards on the afternoon,,,,,minus the children 😂

I'm mid 40s and I have young dcs so 49 is still young mum to me. The outfits lovely :)

I think everything goes very well together. I disagree about matching shoes and handbags - I always think it looks better to match if you can.

Matching shoes and bag looks VERY old lady. Nana like even. Confused But given the OP describes herself as a nana and seems to want to be 49 going on 89, maybe that look is what she wants.

Maybe it looks old lady to you, but that’s just your opinion - I think it just looks well turned out.

PrettayGood · 10/04/2025 21:10

Many MNers have very young kids at your age; you’re hardly ‘nana’ territory at 49.

I like the jeans and the jacket. The top is a bit frumpy. Agree with don’t match your bag and shoes - that’s extremely dated.

NotMeNoNo · 10/04/2025 21:18

I like it. My DSis was a nana at 51 and she’s not going on 89. Same colour bag and shoes is fine in a casual outfit. Nearly all my bags and shoes are black so I can’t avoid it.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 10/04/2025 22:18

Assuming you haven’t started this thread for a laugh, @theressomanytinafeysicouldbe - it’s a perfectly fine outfit if your aim is to look as boringly dressed as you possibly can be.

I assume you mentioned being a grandmother because it’s a children’s party? The good thing about your chosen items is that they’re all easily washable (not the footwear and bag) but that’s the best that could be said about them.

If you want to make the outfit more exciting choose one piece of clothing in a different fabric and texture. Why not a pink sequinned skirt? Or silky palazzo pants in a brighter pink print? Or wear the jacket with a linen sundress?

(You did ask. I’m years and years older and wouldn’t consider such a drab outfit.)

RosesAndHellebores · 10/04/2025 22:23

When I was 49 my DC were 13 and 10.

Why does being a grandmother mean a woman can't or shouldn't be smart and fashionable?

I'm 64 and don't have grandchildren yet. When I do, I shall wear what I want and what I like.

I have never been a nana and never shall be. Nanna, grandma, Nanny, grannie, Gee, are all options. Nana - nope. Nana says a twit to me.

Moier · 10/04/2025 22:29

I actually have that outfit. I'm 66..only bought it last week.
Enjoy the party..( l wear with my trainers(

How nasty .
I'm 66 and have it . It can be mixed and matched with other things .
Those kind of skirts are so last year

Bowies · 10/04/2025 22:34

Jacket is really great and I actually like the bag. If you’ve already got the cream body bag though may as well stick with what you have.

Top is ok too but not so keen on the (ripped) jeans do you have a different pair and maybe in a slightly darker wash?

2chocolateoranges · 10/04/2025 22:36

I always try and match my bag and shoes and I’m 48. Hate a miss matched bag/shoe combo.

tillyandmilly · 10/04/2025 22:37

nana I associate with age 70’s/80’s not 49!!

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 10/04/2025 22:39

You have the exact same outfit the OP is planning to wear, @Moier? Exactly?

Okay …

CallIpswichNow · 10/04/2025 23:41

I’m totally thrown by the people who think shoes and bags should match.

Do you honestly mean colour-match? You’re not just kind of saying they need to work well together? That I would agree with, but needing to colour-match to look well turned out — that feels like a real throwback

What do you think about this bag to go with it? Just thinking my trainers are pale grey

https://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/brand/valentino-bags/vmv-windy-cam-ld34-746344#colcode=74634402

Can you get to a TK Maxx?

I've never known a TK Maxx not to have a brilliant selection of bags at a third of the price.

It seems a bit mad (to me) that you buy a bag that cost the same as your entire outfit.

Pink sequinned skirt? For a children's birthday party, then a pub in the afternoon? That's absolutely fine if you are a child but anyone over the age of 12 would just look plain barmy.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · 11/04/2025 04:43

@SpringIsSpringing25 how on earth is it possible to be rude to theoretical clothes on a website?

The OP asks for opinions on a possible collection of items which she might wear together. I think she could do better, and have said so.

That is how the S&B board works.

sashh · 11/04/2025 05:50

It's a fab outfit, personally I'm not a fan of pink but I might just be getting a pair of those jeans.

But it's not on the S and B board though.

How is this relevant? OP asked for and opinion on an outfit, not what name her grandchildren should call her.

some of the comments on here are bonkers.
OP wants to know if an outfit is nice and people are coming on telling us the age of their kids ot that they haven't got grandchildren. Who cares, do you like the combo she's chosen or not?

jellyfishperiwinkle · 11/04/2025 06:41

Very nice. I'm 49 and I hope not to be a nana for ten years yet but I would wear all of those.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/04/2025 06:56

@BlossomBlossomBlossom except it’s not S&B and even if it were, you are still unnecessarily rude.

@theressomanytinafeysicouldbe I like the outfit and think it’s not too far off your usual comfort zone for you to feel confident in it. Only thing I’d say is, can you get anywhere to try different jeans styles on. There are so many shapes around at the moment and if you’re going for a whole new style instead of your usual skinnies, you might want to try on different kinds.

Have a lovely time and stop identifying as a nana, fashion wise, in your 40s.

My weight fluctuates, so I only spend on shoes and bags really, because i won't grow out of them 😂

We have a big TK Maxx just on the way out of town, I will take a look, thank you
