Yesterday I entered the dark and mysterious world of PLAYMOBIL

dd1 was 4 yesterday and recieved a pony riding show ground box of wonderousness.

There are a lot of little bits though aren't there? And a small yellow minature screw driver that I am still unsure about.

I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama.

So I need tips.

Do you pack the kits away in special boxes or just let free mixing occur ?(I am a wee bit anal)

Are there any universal 'you must have this item' bits.

How long will this playmobil phase last? Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
There are an awful lot of little bits.

We have a fake / imposter in amongst our Playmobil. DS gets really annoyed by it and insists it shouldn't be in with the "proper" stuff. Its not a 123 one though as it has moving bits.

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 21:00

Bet you anything Slubber, that it will be no time at all before another set of Playmobil appears in your house. It seems to multiply very rapidly.

Squirdle · 08/04/2008 21:00

Swedes, it's like that in our house too. We have a 14 yr old DS and 3 and 5 yr old DSs. The little ones were overjoyed to recieve DS1's Tracy Island and also have a micro machines lorry thing which they play with all of the time amongst ohter big bro donations. DS1 didn't have Playmobil though, tis a recent addiction.....of mine

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 21:00

stealth, can I not feel a bit sorry for them? How can they ride the ponies? Or brandish a weapon?

OP posts:
SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 21:01

Yes, it's not just the children who get addicted....

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 21:01

123 farmer has a "special" horse!

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 21:03

how's that work then stealth? Does he ride standing up or side saddle?

OP posts:
MehgaLegs · 08/04/2008 21:04

Oh yes, we have a playmobil 123 man. DS4 has played with him in the bath for ages. it's this one

Only problem is it looks harmless in the pic but the whale lies on the front of the boat. It's a blardy whaling ship - don't tell Jonah Fisher or I'll have him and Greenpeace abseiling in through my bathroom window with banners.

Swedes · 08/04/2008 21:05

squirdle It's marvellous isn't it? We also have a huge box of Star Wars toys in the loft - it's DS1's embarassing secret.

princessmel · 08/04/2008 21:06

Ds always puts playmobile things on his xmas and birthday lists but they seem so expensive. So he hasn't got any actually .

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 21:07

Swedes my DH has a stash of starwars stuff in his mothers loft that he has made her swear NEVER to throw out.

I really am going to have to produce a son aren't I?

OP posts:
SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 21:09

They are expensive but worth it IMO -ours gets played with practically every day, and it is fairly tough and well-made. We have only had a couple of breakages, and one was when Grandad stood on Bossy Ross's leg.

And you can make a lot of the money back later by selling on eBay (if you can bear to part with it!)

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 21:16

the horse has a special saddle so that he can sit with his feet out in front of him.

BettySpaghetti · 08/04/2008 21:19

Look out for special offers too -we got the crane and construction set half price at Xmas from the Entertainer, and earlier last year the helicopter and rescue bot was half price in ToysRUs

princessmel · 08/04/2008 21:20

Yes I suppose so. He wants the huge massive sets he sees on the adverts!

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 21:23

Mel, you need to scale down his ambitions and get him hooked on the specials (like the Blues Brother ) ~£1.75 - £2.50 each - they make great bribes/treats/stocking fillers

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 21:23

Well this thread has certainly answered my OP about whether the dd's will be playing with it for some time.

It has also filled me with an overwhelming desire to commence my own collection.

now I want a:
tramp
emperor
builders loo & crane
nun
viking ship
blue marlin cruise boat..................................................................

Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/04/2008 21:27

Megalegs, I think I might get the whale set for dd - dh would love to act out Moby Dick with the dcs in the bath

FunkyGlassSocks · 08/04/2008 21:27

We have the Blue marlin Cruise Boat. DDs first foray into Playmobil for her 4th birthday. I love that you can lift the seat up inside the cabin and store all of the plates and cutlery in there

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 21:28

Slubber I recently had to order a replacement book for my DM's playmobil person this one as DM was too to challenge DNiece's playmobil people when the book disappeared following their visit

Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/04/2008 21:29

Funky, how many berths are there in the boat? Is it very detailed inside? Is there a cooker of some kind? & toilet?

FunkyGlassSocks · 08/04/2008 21:31

Hi there,

4 berths inside. 2 lift up for said storage.
Yes there is a toilet with liftable seat, and a shower!
A sink and a hob (2 rings).
The anchor on the front can be wound up and down.
Plates, cups, cutlery, food included too.
Detail inside is moderate imo.

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 21:32

Funky, I absolutely need the blue marlin now if it has storage lockers for the plates.

stealth lol. That guy is one relaxed dude in his swinging chair (apart from righteous book arm thrust)

OP posts:
Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/04/2008 21:33

Thank you Funky. I was thinking of getting it (for me) but it would have to have a toilet.

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 21:35

please tell me there are no playmobil turds for one to place in one's playmobil lav.
