Yesterday I entered the dark and mysterious world of PLAYMOBIL

dd1 was 4 yesterday and recieved a pony riding show ground box of wonderousness.

There are a lot of little bits though aren't there? And a small yellow minature screw driver that I am still unsure about.

I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama.

So I need tips.

Do you pack the kits away in special boxes or just let free mixing occur ?(I am a wee bit anal)

Are there any universal 'you must have this item' bits.

How long will this playmobil phase last? Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
There are an awful lot of little bits.

Betty, have you seen Kathy's wino?

I really really want the police man.

Please do forgive me - I had previously dismissed playmobile, after reading this thread I intend to repent

Troutpout why dont you like it?

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 20:16

Slubber - it's a slippery slope! My ds had his first Playmobil set when he was five. He is now seven, and the house is full of the stuff. We love it! There isn't much point trying to keep the sets separate, they always get mixed up.

The good news is, you can buy the components individually if you lose or break them, from the customer services department. Their phone number is 0870 417 0007. All the parts have their own item number (they will be listed in the instruction leaflet for the set).

Playmobil sells very well second hand on ebay - we are saving all the boxes for future use when we come to sell (if we ever grow out of it, that is!)

Some of our Playmobil characters have taken on real personalities. We have a builder called Norman the Foreman, who never does any work, but spends all his time sitting in the office drinking tea. Recently he and his friends went on holiday (on the Playmobil aeroplane) to the beach. They stayed in the camper van, and had a great time drinking tea on the beach or by the swimming pool.

DuchessOfNorksSnowSpecial · 08/04/2008 20:19

I love playmobil. Though I think the 'boys' stuff is much better than the 'girls' stuff. Fortunately so do my DDs.

Ours is all in one large toybox as the DCs like to mix & match. So Cleopatra is generally at the helm of the viking ship and when the pirates get bored of their ship they move into a lovely Tudor cottage which they fill with their swag their pet wild boar.

And oh yes, the bits are teeny, particularly the weapons.

Nemoandthefishes · 08/04/2008 20:19

pmsl also just been pointed out by dh that ds has a road digging set, a digger a police station and a police helicopter..where the hell did it all come from?? Multiplying in the box..although must admit I now want a wino too!!!!

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 20:19

Norman the foreman is the one holding the clipboard in set 3260 Construction crew's office.

There is also a website called Playmodb, which lists even more sets than the Collectobil site.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:21

PMSL at the (optional?) shotgun to go with the bunnies.

To the OP - we have "category" boxes (Police, Airport, Farm, Romans, Construction etc) on one of these. The "other" category is getting slightly out of hand at the moment as it includes everything from plumbers to 3 Father Christmases (how do you spell the plural of Christmas?) to children and their playground equipment.

Large buildings (farm, police station, airport, gladiator arena) live in the drawers of DS's playtable as there is only room for one "scene" at a time, and vehicles live in the cupboard.

We have way too much Playmobil

Romans are the latest obsession, although the police and ambulance quite often get called in to break it up when it gets out of control - and last time the tiger got taken off in the ambulance.

DuchessOfNorksSnowSpecial · 08/04/2008 20:22

... and their pet boar

We have a black-suited, saxophone playing, Blues Brother playmobil man. How f cool is that?

BettySpaghetti · 08/04/2008 20:23

Subber - I have indeed seen Kathys wino. I think he would look great slumped in the Portaloo actually (look under Construction on Kathys link, scroll across and the loo is almost at the end).

Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/04/2008 20:24

Playmodb

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 20:24

SoMuch you Norman goes on holiday story made me lol. But why were the builders drinking tea on the beach? Surely playmobil does some meeny ickle pints of lager and bacardi breezers for the ladies?

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:25

Don't get started on your Blues Brother, Duchess - you know I want one and they are impossible to find

BettySpaghetti · 08/04/2008 20:25

I just misread Nemo's last post as "road dogging set" -now that would be taking things a bit too far in the world of Playmobil

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:27

DS's plane is used to take an assortment of people on holiday where they go on cruises on the (lego) pirate ship.

I think the crew of the Roman galleon may set up in competition this season.

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 20:29

We do have a few bottles of beer, that go with coolboxes from the leisure sets. Norman and his friends did have some beer sometimes for a change. I don't think we have any wineglasses yet (although we are collecting quite a few plates, cups and lots of teeny-weeny knives, forks and spoons!)

This afternoon, Norman, Brian, Ken and Len had a football match on the kitchen floor with Michael the beach police man, and bossy Ross (he spends a lot of time ordering people about through his megaphone) the fire boat captain.

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 20:30

You must get the family yacht (Blue Marlin) for cruising. It's great, it even comes with a LiLo!

DuchessOfNorksSnowSpecial · 08/04/2008 20:31

forces him into the safe, keeps sharp-eye out for Playmobil burglars and lets the Playmobil Rottweilers out to patrol the grounds.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:32

That would be the more exclusive end of the market, I feel - then the pirates and romans can fight it out for the mass tourism. DH won't let me get the camper van as he is violently anti-camping and thinks it will give DS ideas.

Nemoandthefishes · 08/04/2008 20:33

does anyone else also have playmobil 123 sets??
DD2 has some of these but she really isnt happy being fobbed off with the hardy figures while ds and dd1 play with lovely twiddly little bits!!!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/04/2008 20:34

When we were children our top Playmobil person was The Sheriff. Usually they were in outer space in a Star-Trek inspired scenario. We used to make them houses out of shoeboxes, but the shoeboxes were too rare and precious to cut doors in, so it was fortunate that they had invented teleportation.

The other thing that happened was that they all went exploring in the garden were they met a race of noble savages called the Gardenians who had those monster heads with wavy arms stuck over their real heads.

(have talked about this already on MN so apologies for being Playmobil nostalgia bore).

Littlefish · 08/04/2008 20:35

It's all your fault!!!!!!

I've just been on ebay and put in a bid for a huge, multi floored castle, complete with more princesses, princes and guards than you can shake a stick at.

DH is going to be furious. Dd is going to be beside herself with excitement if we win it.

MehgaLegs · 08/04/2008 20:35

Mine were given playmobile too young and ruined it. The pirate ship lasted a few months but I couldn't keep up with reassembling it. Oh the cannon bloody balls!

We now have two playmobile people left, with no hair.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:35

For some reason we have 2 safes - that combined with police station and scene of crime set gives us 6 burglars and 2 sets of safe-cracking equipment - and I am sure they can borrow a wolf from the knights to deal with the rottweilers.

DuchessOfNorksSnowSpecial · 08/04/2008 20:36

Nemo - yes, Playmobil 123 is hugely disappointing!

Nemoandthefishes · 08/04/2008 20:37

think will sell our playmobil 123 to buy more playmobil with tiny tiny bits
