Yesterday I entered the dark and mysterious world of PLAYMOBIL

dd1 was 4 yesterday and recieved a pony riding show ground box of wonderousness.

There are a lot of little bits though aren't there? And a small yellow minature screw driver that I am still unsure about.

I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama.

So I need tips.

Do you pack the kits away in special boxes or just let free mixing occur ?(I am a wee bit anal)

Are there any universal 'you must have this item' bits.

How long will this playmobil phase last? Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
There are an awful lot of little bits.

Ds wants the tent that you can buy from the Direct Service catalogue.

I suppose the Blue Marlin is rather upmarket, but if you want a boat that holds lots of people, I'd go for the Cargo harbour boat. You can just shove everyone in the hold. We actually lost one of the firemen for several days, not realising he had been stuffed in the rope locker of the cargo boat!

We never had any 123 except for one bath set. I think once they see the real stuff, the 123 is a bit boring.

I am blown away. Completely blown away.

We have a nun, no idea why or where she came from, or what kit she would belong to.... she seems to have mislaid her bible and is often to be found driving a tractor courtesy of ds2

Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/04/2008 20:39

Oh, the nun was a special.
I think they know they are appealing to the adult market with the specials (I just mean adult, not adult, IYKWIM).

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:39

oooh the castle - that is the only bit of girly playmobil I do slightly covet.

Nemo - DD has a 123 racing car and a boat she inherited from DS, but the thing she really loves is the puzzle. I won't bother getting any more though as she is already pinching DS's people whenever she gets a chance.

snooks · 08/04/2008 20:39

I do like the way the figures all have a bad case of 'hat-hair' when their hats fall off as they invariably do all bloody day

Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/04/2008 20:41

I would be worried about what status the 123 people would have with the normal playmobil people.... would not like to see them become sort of second class citizens.

TheMadHouse · 08/04/2008 20:42

We have playmobile 123 and I can not wait for the real thing TBH, but it is cool adn they know no better yet, we have a farm, house and pony thing

DuchessOfNorksSnowSpecial · 08/04/2008 20:42

Ooh we've got the Nun too. And a deep sea diver in an old-fashioned diving suit (Father Christmas put it in DHs stocking...!).

The Blues Brother is looking nervous and is offering the Vikings protection money...

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 20:43

You're right, Kathy - we have enough trouble with rivalry between the Playmobil people and the Lego people!

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:43

LOL Kathy - in our household the 123 people have the advantage of a way stroppier owner than the mainstream playmobil people, so inspite of lack of moving limbs I would see them more as a ruling elite than as second class citizens.

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 20:44

Funny, my ds seems to find Playmobil in his Christmas stocking, too....

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 20:44

are the 123 people bigger, more neandertal like?

In our house the duplo people reign supreme over the megablok folk. but there is a new kid on the block from yesterday. playmobil riding girl and her whip & stick.

Ooh Playmobil!! We have recently become addicted. The boys (5 and 3) got the aeroplane, control tower, cargo whatsit and various other airport bits and also the farm, tractors and other farmy bits for their birthdays and Christmas. They have been playing with it all day today. Mainly they have been playing Big Barn Farm (thing on CBeebies atm if you don't know what I mean)

I want the house and the hospital

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 20:46

Yes, 123 are bigger, but not so versatile. I'm sure the riding girl will soon whip them into submission.

We have to be a bit careful with Michael the beach police man - he can be a bit too enthusiastic with the gun and handcuffs.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:46

Slubber - 123 people are the same size but their legs are stuck together and their arms are moulded to their bodies

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:47
Squirdle · 08/04/2008 20:47

Ooh Ds2 got the coach as well, which is pretty cool. I want lots of money (and a playmobil room) so I can buy it all!

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 20:47

We want the house too - ds wants to use it as a lifeboat station. He has a rescue boat (nowa discontinued set) and some men with lifejackets etc, and some lifeguards, but at the moment they are having to use the fire station as a base.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:50

I stand by my last post. I can't upload photos ATM, or I would prove it, but a randomly selected knight is actually slightly taller than the 123 farmer.

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 20:52

Ah, I haven't measured them, but the 123 just seem bigger. I think it's because they are kind of chunkier.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:54

The farmer is definitely 'better fed' than the knight.

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 20:54

I think that, regardless of their height, the 123 folk should be pitied as they have their legs stuck together.

Oh I love Playmobil. We inherited a huge biscuit tin full of it when DS1 was about 3 (he's 16 now) and we didn't know what it was called because it all came loose. DS1 called it Miss Bonnet and that name stuck. I think Father Christmas probably got the odd letter saying "Please bring me the Miss Bonnet police car/campervan/refuse truck" It was one of the toys we kept (duplo, lego, Brio, Bringatlongatrain Thomas, pop up tent, a Tomy Thomas the Tank trainset that ferries little balls about the track, stacking cups, big box of cars) and these toys have been wheeled out over the years for visiting friends, relatives and now my two little ones (2.6 and 8 months) are now playing with some of this stuff.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 20:57

They don't want pity, Slubber - just equal opportunities (or in our case, since DD owns them, world domination)
