I want to treat myself to a really good new set of saucepans - any recommendations?

I have a motley collection of rather vile saucepans acquired over the years from various odd places, the nice ones we had for our wedding 12 years ago have pretty much had it

I would ideally like something with a stainless steel outside and non-stick inside. I don't want metal handles on the lids or metal handles as they both get hot! Must be dishwasherable

Anyone?

I have a set of three John Lewis own brand stainless steel saucepans which I have used every day for 15 years (well apart from holidays obviously )
They are not non stick because I have had these in the past and always need replaced within months. I don't have a problem with things sticking at all. They do have metal handles, including the lids, but they don't get hot. They are oven proof and dishwasher proof. So sorry, I can't recommend any to your spec but I can recommend these.

took the words right out of my mouth chopchop

They are indeed the Dog's Bollocks

I love them

completely dishwashable, don't be such a pussy about hot handles, you should be cooking with a teatowel tucked in to your apron string anyway for just such a situation.

And I'm a pro

CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 10:56

nahh
i hate hot handles
and lids

what is the point?

OK run by me the non stickiness of non non stick saucepans. Every time I have cooked for eg a sauce or gravy in one it stick and I spend ages scraping the scunge off the bottom

I have a giant Jamie Oliver pot from JL that has done very well (has plastic handles I think).

JL do saucepans with plastic handles from memory

coddy · 18/07/2007 10:58

the "jonelle" own barnd classic ones
but non sstikc frypan from tesco finest

Budababe · 18/07/2007 10:59

Echoing the John Lewis ones here too! Bought them in 2001 and are still perfect.

I use non-stick frying pans and need to replace them pretty often - esp as DH insists on putting them in the dishwasher.

And I don't find the handles get too hot really.

binkleandflip · 18/07/2007 10:59

coddy · 18/07/2007 11:00

have some le creuset (darkish blue), a nonstick omlette pan, a few old le creusets from a friend. can i also recommend one of those metal heat dispersing wotsits for on the hob? mine helps create a lovely low simmer

CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 11:02

SIL has them, when I cook there I need a supportive wrist bandage for a week afterwards!

CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 11:03

I have two great frying pans (one huge and deep, a saute pan, with removable handle that can also go in oven, one bog standard tefal one that I oil religiously and is great), an excellent wok and a good massive pasta/stock pan

it is only saucepans I need really

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 11:04

Oblomov · 18/07/2007 11:04

My mum bought the John Lewis black ones, said they were the best ever.

CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 11:05

OP posts:
binkleandflip · 18/07/2007 11:06

Had to buy a special over the sink hands-free strainer for pasta so I could hold le creuset pan without breaking my wrist

fishie · 18/07/2007 11:06

anolon oh how i love them. nothing ever sticks and i have used mine every day for about 5 years no problems. frying pan a bit heavy though.
