I want to treat myself to a really good new set of saucepans - any recommendations?

I have a motley collection of rather vile saucepans acquired over the years from various odd places, the nice ones we had for our wedding 12 years ago have pretty much had it

I would ideally like something with a stainless steel outside and non-stick inside. I don't want metal handles on the lids or metal handles as they both get hot! Must be dishwasherable

Anyone?

I think we have the All Clad ones (DH in charge of saucepans). They look very like those and the handles do stay cool. they are very good and I am allowed to put then in the dishwasher (and believe me that is a big concession in our house)

Asparagus steamers are great as the tips need cooking for less time that the stalks which is difficult to achieve in a normal pan, but only good if you eat a lot of the stuff!

BBB, can I take this opportunity to say ...Duhhhhhhhh

oliveoil · 18/07/2007 11:40

no

I have a set of Meyer pans. Stainless steel. There is a frying pan in the set that is teflon, but the rest of the pans are not coated. I especially like them because the lids are glass so I can see inside without letting the steam out. They have a rubber/plac heat resistant handle that really doies not get hot unless you put it over the burner -- no idea who might be dum enough to do that.

Couldn't find a link for you, but they do seem to do something similar in anodised aluminum (www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_19835_220403_-1)

Oh and the lids have a lip that fits inside the pan which has holes in two places so you can turn the lid to pour water out of the pan without dumping out your pasta rice, and you don't need to wash a colander (pasta strainer thing, can't remember if it has a different word over here)

JackieNo · 18/07/2007 11:45

Agree the Meyer ones are good - we had some non-stick ones that lasted well for a good 10 years, but did finally give up the ghost. Not sure if they were dishwasherable though, we didn't have one for most of that time.

eleusis · 18/07/2007 11:45

Mine are called Meyer Select, but I did buy them a few years ago.

They are dishwasherable.

StarryStarryNight · 18/07/2007 11:47

CD you need THIS It matches all your requirements.

It is Hoyang Polaris.
I have had mine 15 years, it is non stick, beautiful glass lid and stainless steel handles, it does not get hot, I have had mine in the dishwasher, it is the best you can get. If you can get it here....

JackieNo · 18/07/2007 11:47

Actually just went and checked - our current ones are Meyer, and the strainer thing in the lid is v useful - large holes on one side, smaller ones on the other, depending on what you're draining.

bundle · 18/07/2007 11:48

am liking the name Hoyang Polaris

eleusis · 18/07/2007 11:48

Found them

Meyer Select

I think the sauce pan is sold separately.

CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 11:48
