Bored of contents of make-up bag - any suggestions

Just looking through my make-up bag this morning and decided that I have gone off some of the things in it really. Usually use Clinique but have recently bought a few No7 things and decided that they suit my skin better now I am getting older . I am 30 on Sunday and have decided I need making over pronto. What brands are good these days, as it has been ages since I have really been to a make-up counter and bought something as I usually rely on people to buy me things as birthday/christmas presents. Suggestions would therefore be very grateful.

That's a very clever suggestion

wobblyknicks · 06/07/2004 23:14

sw - don't leave me as the only bare-faced beauty!!!

i am sure I can post you a lancome free smalple, but you must wear it every day fro a week and no rubbing tyour eyes!

motherinferior · 06/07/2004 23:21

I've scandalised Coddy before with my lack of makeup. Seem to have lost the hang and subsided into unbecoming combination of mumsiness and permanent-studentry. I do get my lashes dyed. And, at my advanced age, dyed hair is a must.

codswallop · 06/07/2004 23:23

MI I wasnt scanaldised!

you were too busy being unfeasibly shy!

thats oon worked its way off though, hehe

ams still reeling from your comments otn eh nipple thread!

codswallop · 06/07/2004 23:24

motherinferior · 06/07/2004 23:27

Long time since anyone reeled at my nipples! Any particular reason?

codswallop · 06/07/2004 23:30

lol

Lisa78 · 06/07/2004 23:30

Get yourself to Bobbi Brown counter for a makeover - they do a sheet for you with all the colours that they have used
Then you can go buy it much cheaper at boots!!!!

motherinferior · 06/07/2004 23:32

I seriously have no idea how to wear makeup any more. Where would I wear it? Does it really make you look any different?

hazlinh · 07/07/2004 04:56

just revamped my makeup bag meself, after 5 months of feeling like something the cat dragged through the rainforest backwards (hint:dd is 5 mths).
my favourite foundation has always been MAC face and body (water resistant! and very minimal sort of look, not cakey or think at all) but they dont stock it in Malaysia.
bought Stila complete coverage foundation 2 weeks ago..and their demi-cream lipstick.got the powder as well, it comes in a pretty silver compact (talk about being materialistic, but hey!anything that makes u feel good
their makeup comes in really interesting packaging:idiot-proof applications. it's like working with oil paints or something LOL.
their blushers are REALLy interesting too.

hazlinh · 07/07/2004 04:58

wanted to add confession: i wear makeup every day, almost 24 hrs a day . i too look pale and anaemic without a shred of slap

Snowbell · 07/07/2004 14:09

what is this touche eclat that everyone keeps talking about? What is it supposed to do?

sooz31 · 07/07/2004 14:34

Get thee to Debenhams ladies... went to Benefit counter and splurged - result! With every purchase you get a free Benefit makeover!

I haven't booked mine yet but am planning to save it for my birthday in a few weeks (God, just had a thought - I hope I don't end up looking like Dame Edna!).

sooz31 · 07/07/2004 14:35

Touche Eclat - YSL make it. Comes in a pen; it's basically a glorified cover-up except it does something magical to those little areas you hate on your face (outside corners of eyes, round nose, spots etc). Lovely stuff.

florenceuk · 07/07/2004 14:50

Confession time - I am another non-make-up wearer. I just never got the hang of it, was lucky enough when young to have relatively even-toned skin and no zits, and then abandoned all efforts when had DS. Now I spend an absolute fortune dyeing my hair, and on facecreams, but otherwise am untouched. I know I look tired (esp since getting pregnant) and really should pluck my eyebrows - but not sure where to start! The most I do is stick a bit of lippy on when I go out (a rare event). I do wonder about signing up with one of these personal make-up advisers to see what they would advise.

Bagpuss30 · 07/07/2004 18:19

Spacemonkey you were right, my bank account is now empty BUT..I did get a whole new load of things though . I got some Benefit mascara, blusher and lip balm and some Touche Eclat, also some Clinique eye shadow and lipstick. It is my birthday pressie from dh which is now made urgent by the fact that ds got hold of my old make up this morning and finished off my best lipstick and mascara . I wonder how long Boots will take to deliver it?

not read al of the thread but Bobbi Brown tinted moisturiser is absolutely brilliant. i am a complete foundation phobe but this stuff is fab, actually makes pasty, dull skin look quite vibrant. Even DP noticed and it's not like horrid foundation that to as far as I am concerned is a) pain to put on properly b) feels yuck.

Ask them for a tester, it is fab stuff.
