Bored of contents of make-up bag - any suggestions

Just looking through my make-up bag this morning and decided that I have gone off some of the things in it really. Usually use Clinique but have recently bought a few No7 things and decided that they suit my skin better now I am getting older . I am 30 on Sunday and have decided I need making over pronto. What brands are good these days, as it has been ages since I have really been to a make-up counter and bought something as I usually rely on people to buy me things as birthday/christmas presents. Suggestions would therefore be very grateful.

I quite like the Virgin Vie make up. If you go into a store then an assistant will treat you to a free consultantion and will help you choose and test out different make up looks. I had no pressure at all to buy when I did it.

Oh and my SIl who's Australian really recommends the Revelon Colour Stay foundation. Even in the hot Aussie summer she finds this is one of the very few brands that will stay on all day. I ahve now tried it and I have to agree that it is very good. And also not particularly pricey either at about £12.

I really like Origins stuff, they have it in John Lewis but they do online ordering. their white tea skin product was sublime on my skin

boudicca · 06/07/2004 15:32

I can recommend Smashbox,I use their foundation that matches itself exactly to your colour

eefs · 06/07/2004 15:33

Touche Eclat and benefit cheek tint

codswallop · 06/07/2004 15:33

BOuddica! really! I always lol at that show on qvc ( my saddo habit) but find HIM strangely compelling!

boudicca · 06/07/2004 15:36

So relieved to find I'm not the only saddo watching QVC,yes he's very LA LA

codswallop · 06/07/2004 15:37

have never bought it tho

I also love the woman swho does it all in her curlers!

boudicca · 06/07/2004 15:39

I love the way she paints it all on,seem to remember doing similar in my yoof!

bundle · 06/07/2004 16:02

I thought she'd forgotten the curlers...they're deliberate?

codswallop · 06/07/2004 16:04

suzywong · 06/07/2004 16:37

this thread makes fascinating lurking, I always go bare faced these days, all I can do to make sure teeth are cleaned and hair is food free.
It's like a window on another world

wobblyknicks · 06/07/2004 16:39

suzy - same here!! If I put make-up on then 5 mins after picking dd up, it would be helpfully smeared in my mouth!!!

codswallop · 06/07/2004 16:41

oh come on girls - you have 5 minutes!

oliveoil · 06/07/2004 16:41

Good god, no make up? I would have people shoving me in an ambulance, am pale and anemic at the mo. Pile it on.

suzywong · 06/07/2004 16:54

Exactly WK
what's the point of cheek tint when it will be obscured by drool and orange baby mush by 11am, and lip gloss would mean limited kisses for my DS1.
Besides I am radiantly gorgeous as I am

codswallop · 06/07/2004 16:58

no nono
disagree
everyone needs make up!

babies are no excuse whatsoever. yuou have time to clean your teeth?
so put a lipestick on!

OR your dhs will all say " dont you wear make upo anymore"? int hat wistful way...

wobblyknicks · 06/07/2004 16:58

I don't mind putting ON make-up, but I don't want dd to feed it to me as soon as I go to her!!!

wobblyknicks · 06/07/2004 16:59

And suzy, I am naturally gorgeous sans make-up too!!!

Northerner · 06/07/2004 17:01

God I NEVER leave the house without my slap on. Feel ungroomed wihout it. It only takes me 5 mins, tinted moisturiser, touche eclat (thank god for miracles!) mascara, bronzer and lippy. Transformed.

bundle · 06/07/2004 17:01

agree about naked gorgeousness, but smudge of lipstick creates illusion of glamour (!) occasionally...in fact I think the occasional bit makes it more glamourous..

wobblyknicks · 06/07/2004 17:02

coddy - I couldn't care less what my (ex)UH says so no worries there!!!

My sister actually complained to me the other day because she always cakes on the make-up and said "it's not fair that you look good without it"!!

wobblyknicks · 06/07/2004 17:03

Every time I go out without dd I put make-up on but just don't see then point when I've got dd.
