I was in Baby Gap today and saw a great bargain - a large canvas baby change bag, three different pattens to choose from,( plain, pretty and stripe) complete with changing mat, down from £48.00 to £6.99. I don't know anyone - in the real world at least - who has just given birth, or would need a baby changing bag, but I thought it was such a good bargaian, I'd tell you about it here. These bags were in the Bluewater branch of Baby Gap, but are probably availablr elsewhere.

Here's a suggestion, news of any other bargains we see could be posted here as and when.

Janh, I had it wrong. Tesco's is £199 minus the VAT which = about £165. I could be tempted except I'm moving abroad and love my Oreck!

I heard on the radio today that lots of people are signing up to ITV Digital. Apparently, you don't pay up front as payment is on a monthly basis but you walk out of the shop with a set top box. When ITV Digital goes out of business you'll not be required to make any payments and it's highly unlikely the set top boxes will be reclaimed by creditors and you'll have got the box for free. Not that it means anything to me, I'm a dinosaur as far as things like digital tv are concerned!!

janh · 27/04/2002 10:23

tigermoth, I know, I am sorry about that - maybe the bottle of red wine I was drinking had something to do with it! (I woke up with the sinking feeling that I'd gone a bit over the top - I sometimes wish it was possible to return to the board in the morning and remove what seemed like a Really Good posting the night before!)

janh · 27/04/2002 10:28

Suedonim, are you going forever? Where to? (Excuse me if this has been discussed before, I have missed it.) Is it your DH who works on an oil rig? Is it to do with that?

SueDonim · 27/04/2002 11:51

Janh, yes, you're right, DH was working on an oilrig, now back in the office but still oil related. He's working in Indonesia and we're all moving out there to live next month. (in five wks time - yikes!) It's for 2-3 yrs initially depending on how the job develops. The good news (for me at least, maybe not for Mumsnetters!) is that he is getting a PC delivered to our new abode on Monday.

Tinker · 27/04/2002 11:58

Hurray! Much relief. Would hate to see you go SueDonim!

jodee · 27/04/2002 15:21

I think Littlewoods may have wised up. I thought I was onto a good thing as I had been sent their catalogue with 15 Pounds off my first order, so I thought I would double my saving by entering the code on the website - it didn't work. I was after the Berchet Babydriver 2 trike as it was voted no 1 here (price 49.99). So I thought, oh well, I'll just save 15 quid off of it by ordering it through the catalogue. Just checked the price and it 10 POUNDS dearer than it is at Littlewoods online!

Rhubarb · 27/04/2002 16:36

Yeah, Littlewoods have wised up, sorry to everyone who tried and failed to get their £15 off.

tigermoth · 27/04/2002 18:32

Janh I thought yours was a really good posting - I just felt guilty about getting all frivolous afterwards.

Suedonim, glad your husband has got his priorities right, though I fear once you are in indonesia, the bargains thread won't hold as much appeal shopwise for you. Still, by the sound of it, there are plenty of internet bargains to discover. I have only internet shopped once, but this thread is spurring me on.

Suedonim, good luck in Indonesia - a different world, I think!
How many offspring are you taking with you? Just the 2 little ones? I bet it will seem weird...
Are you leaving your old house empty or is a son staying there?
We will look forward to hearing from you in your new residence!

Rhiannon · 27/04/2002 21:58

check on thebookpeople.co.uk for bargains galore, I know we've had this before but they've now got the complete Shirley Hughes collection (Alfie, Dogger, Angel Mae)in hardback for only £7.99!! (I love her stories and her beautiful illustrations).

There are some lovely art books too and the DK sticker books are still 10 for £6.99 instead of £39.90! Musn't forget Animal by David Burnie the most beautiful and huge hardback book published by DK again for only £12.99 instead of £35.00. R

SueDonim · 27/04/2002 22:16

Thanks for the kind thoughts, everyone; you're all lovely.

We're taking the DD's, Janh, although the older one isn't coming until the end of term here in Scotland. Ds1 is emigrating to America in the summer with his new wife, while Ds2 is looking forward to having the entire house to himself and his GF (apart from the dog, two cats and the everlasting rabbit for him to take care of, but I'm sure he'll manage, he's boringly responsible!).

Tinker · 27/04/2002 22:58

SueDonim - your son's going out with Gina Ford?

SueDonim · 27/04/2002 23:05

LOL, Tinker - I'll disinherit him if he is! Maybe that should read 'gf' = girlfriend.

Thanks pluto, i was just about to put in an order for well over £50, so the discount and free P&P came in very handy

jodee · 29/04/2002 19:00

To those that use Ebay, can I have a bit of feeback about it please? I've registered but have yet to buy/sell. I know someone here wasn't happy with the evil smelling jacket they bought!

jodee · 29/04/2002 19:01

I'm all fingers and thumbs today - that should be 'feedback'!

bluebear · 29/04/2002 19:27

We have used ebay a number of times - to both buy and sell, and it's been fine. We have only had one problem - an amplifier which was not the model the seller had said it was, which we are still trying to resolve. This seller was a first-timer (ebay do ratings on all buyers/sellers so you can see if they have been honest in the past). I guess if you stick to those with good references you should be okay. HTH.

Ooh yes, it was me that bought the evil smelling jacket off Ebay!! I washed it again a couple of times, hung it outside some more then had it hanging inside till it passed muster. Then I advertised it in a different section - as it was kind of 'outdoorsy' or 'horsey' I put it in under "Equestrian Supplies". Got £5 more than I paid for it!

I've only been ripped off once on Ebay, sent £1.30 in stamps to someone for a 50p T-shirt plus p&p, never received the item and got no reply to emails. Didn't bother to report them, and they've never had another auction on there.

jodee · 30/04/2002 08:25

MandyD, I take my hat off to you, what a wheeler-dealer!

Bluebear/Mandy thanks, it sounds like you are satisfied 90% of the time; I guess there is a bit of a risk involved but life would be boring otherwise I guess! Thanks.

jessi · 30/04/2002 11:36

SueW, thanks for the tip, I just got 2 cartridges very cheaply!

Lizzer · 30/04/2002 13:07

I'm useless at putting links in but if you go here:
www.buycosmeticsdirect.com/default.asp
you can get dead cheap branded makeup and body care stuff, all the makes clarins, clinique, arden etc etc usually for half price. Limited choices but you might find something that you really need (or you could get a birthday presie for a friend and she'll think you've spent a fortune on her!!)

Got dd's cool trainers from littlewoods yesterday - can't believe they were so cheap!
