A new thread to take is to exams and beyond! All welcome.

We have RE and Biology today.
He has 2 many days, I mean how can you have maths and English on the same day, PE and Biology, all his massive and favourite ones are mainly 2 on the same day. So unfair.

Oblomov25 · 13/05/2025 07:17

I think they are odd aswell. I can't grasp why school changed over. Plus they don't test methods. Which is wierd.

Ds2 claims (don't take this as gospel) that the text was a wierd bit of the Macbeth witches talking, but not their main talk, the bit before, where they talk of nothing at all. Wierd choice. apparently in the other paper the question was Macbeth ambition which has got to be the biggest and main theme EVER, even I reckon I could write 3 decent pages on ambition here and now! 😉

That's hard on him. Dd only has two on the days she has media as the exam board is a really obscure one.
I've heard the macbeth q was difficult :(

QueenMabby · 13/05/2025 07:46

Dd has two exams Thursday (maths and German) and two on Friday (Latin and something else). Two exam days are tough.
Morning off this morning before Biology this afternoon.

OP posts:
NotAPersonalAttack · 13/05/2025 07:54

DD has one day with three - Two of those are the same MFL though.

All other days are just one. Mocks we're two on several days which was really tough. This actual timetable is much better for DD.

Same here! Tough few days hope all goes well 🤞🏼

Hollyhedge · 13/05/2025 08:11

DS has 5 consecutive - bio, PE, Spanish (listening and reading), history, then maths. After half term.

Next week is the worst week for him IMO. Chem followed by PE 1, then Eng lit.

He has Bio separate AQA today.

Good luck all!

icanbewhatiwant · 13/05/2025 08:15

Ds had English lit and biology yesterday. I usually just get a shrug when I ask how things went. But yesterday he said they were easier than he expected. Today he has biology. Hoping everything goes well for everyone today.

HereComesYourMam · 13/05/2025 08:19

The overload of resources can be a real problem I think. DS's English teacher added a tonne of extra revision docs to their homework app at the end of last week... just far too much, too late, when they have other exams to study for too.

Maths and English on the same day is odd, is that iGCSEs? Or have I totally missed something off DC timetable?
We've a block of 4 Monday and Tuesday next week which is really hard, especially as they tail off almost too much after half term. If I could move two to after half term that would be perfect as he has a few days then.
And it's really hot! After all the years of work, it comes down to this.

Cantwaituntiltheyareover · 13/05/2025 08:25

We have RE / EP and biology here today too....can't actually tell how she feels about them but found her reading EP revision guide in bed last night....

babystarsandmoon · 13/05/2025 08:26

My child was very happy with yesterday’s English Literature paper but..

Their friend accidentally answered the wrong question. They wrote about Macbeth, a topic they haven’t covered, instead of A Christmas Carol.

I didn’t even realise this would be possible so a little reminder for them to always double check they are answering the correct page.

destiel00 · 13/05/2025 08:32

Yes, it does drop off after half-term...I think they could be spread out more

Yes
Dds English teachers did this too

DS has 12 of 22 after half term, no dropping off. Although good Eng lit & PE 1 done. Still half the sciences/ 2/3 of maths, 3/4 Spanish, 2/3 history…keeping up momentum will be hard, more so if gets v hot

Oblomov25 · 13/05/2025 08:40

No Brie not igcse's, just standard AQA and Edexcel at the local school!

English and maths are not on the same day for GCSEs. Is this advanced maths?

What day is this? We're doing AQA (English) and Edexcel (maths)!

DataColour · 13/05/2025 08:44

DS has equal amount of papers before and after half term, no tailing off. Music appraisal and further maths are right at the end. Hardly any work for them have been done here.
DS is timetabled for RE and Biology today. We've decided he's not going to take the RE exam and have informed the school. He failed it in the mock and has done no revision for it whatsoever since then, plus it's 3 papers, in total longer than any of the sciences. One of the papers is on a day that he's got no other exams and just going into school to do that paper would take hours out of his day when he could be revising something else like FM. He's still got 9 GCSEs plus FM, so that's enough for what he wants to do.
I'm at home with him this morning, doing some last minute biology revision with him.
Good luck for today's exams!

Oblomov25 · 13/05/2025 08:49

I was testing ds2 on RE last night. 10 words per section, 12 mark questions, on sacrament, incarnation. Boring.

Oblomov25 · 13/05/2025 08:52

No. I'll go and check, maybe I've made a mistake.

This sounds the right decision. Good luck

I don’t suppose anyone could comment or message me what the Jekyll and Hyde question was? DS is autistic and upset but won’t talk to me. I know Romeo and Juliet was unfortunately not a question in his favour.

My son said it on the theme of secrecy, they’ve read Jekyll and Hyde.

the Macbeth question was on the theme of ambition.

Hope you’re and your son are ok. It’s such an anxious time. English lit is my DS’s weakest subject.

No worries, I was just getting panicky that I missed something!

I have the dates on our calendar but I have checked the dates supplied by school and while there are a lot of doubles, maths and English are well spaced out.

babystarsandmoon · 13/05/2025 09:00

My child only has one day of double exams.
