A new thread to take is to exams and beyond! All welcome.

DS is predicting guilt in Macbeth and poverty in A Christmas Carol. When I let my friends know this amazing insight, I got an eyeroll - it's always poverty in ACC!
Eng lit 1 is one of our better ones, computer science this afternoon is the absolute worst!

destiel00 · 12/05/2025 10:01

I saw that Boxer was a prediction for AF.
Based on the fact that it hasn't come up recently.

Soundofshuna · 12/05/2025 10:02

I’ve been educated on the way into school today( poems and prose here) I had no idea that epistrophe was a word…
6 exams here this week, 5 down already so after this week only 9 to go (not counting the A level student also in the house!!)

minisnowballs · 12/05/2025 10:11

I got quite the lecture on Ted Hughes on the way to school today and last night before bed - I'm down at DD2's place for today and tomorrow. She's not on bad form but I think needed a bit of Mum time.

She had a 'flute skills' day yesterday including a masterclass with a Big Shot flautist that she didn't know about until the day. I was quite awestruck watching her poise to be honest - you basically play in front of a load of strangers and get criticised and told to work on stuff while everyone watches.

I reckoned after that eng lit would be a doddle, but she says not. Shows how different we are!

queenofthesuburbs · 12/05/2025 10:12

I did an English degree and never knew that "Apostrophe" was the device of addressing someone in a poem. 😂

Soundofshuna · 12/05/2025 10:24

We also had a mini discussion on the difference between an elegy and a eulogy. Hopefully it will come in useful!!
Hooe your mum time is appreciated minisnowballs. I’ve taken some parental leave for the next few weeks mainly for my sanity!

Hollyhedge · 12/05/2025 10:58

One down - yay!!!

Where do we see the questions 🤣🤣

destiel00 · 12/05/2025 11:00

Aren't the exam papers embargoed?
I think they are often used as mocks for the next year Y11s so I think you'll only hear about them from dc?
(But I could be wrong...)

destiel00 · 12/05/2025 11:00

I imagine they'll be all over SM!

TeenToTwenties · 12/05/2025 11:04

They are meant to be embargoed.

Personally I think no good comes of going over questions in too much detail afterwards. Best to move on and focus on the next exam.

I dunno people must post them…

I’ll get one word feedback after school: good/ decent/ bad 🤣

You’re right. Am just curious 🤪

BrieHugger · 12/05/2025 11:18

I’ve just had an “it was ok, meh R&J question, good Jekyll question”

destiel00 · 12/05/2025 11:45

I doubt I'll get much feedback tbh!
Dd usually claims she "can't remember" things that happened at school only an hour before so...🙄🤣

somethinggoodisgonnahappen · 12/05/2025 11:47

Glad such a big one is out the way for them. I'm so overinvested in this, I really want to know what the questions were. I think I care more than I did for my own GCSEs!!

somethinggoodisgonnahappen · 12/05/2025 11:49

Also I'd like to know what the questions were not directly from DC as I might blurt out so did you refer to X and quote X and then receive (quite rightly) a death stare from them!

Poisoningpigeons · 12/05/2025 11:50

Haven't heard anything from DC about the Eng Lit paper, I'm not sure I was expecting to... I'm going with "no news is good news" 🤞

destiel00 · 12/05/2025 11:51

I'll ask how it went...her reply will tell me whether to ask further questions...😬

minisnowballs · 12/05/2025 11:56

DD2 very very pleased with hers - particularly the great expectations question - but she does a very weird exam board so I shouldn't imagine that's applicable to many.

Back to the dreaded maths revision!

It’s useful to know so we don’t say the wrong thing. My son was convinced a witches Macbeth question would be on aqa

DataColour · 12/05/2025 12:03

DS went in this morning, grumpy from anxiety I think. Spent quite a bit of time on the toilet (usual for him when stressed) and no breakfast, again usual for him. Add on to that was the fact that he injured his big toe playing football in the back garden last night. He wanted to wear his trainers to school, but his school had specified a no trainers rule even for exams. He rang me on the way to school saying he was limping all the way to school. It's one thing after another..argh!

Anyway, got a detailed report from him for English Lit, he thinks he did well, but when pressed on it I'm not sure he wrote much for the A02 element from what he said. Oh well, it's done now. But he said he had plenty to say about the themes in question. DD in year 10 will be grilling him on the questions I'm sure as she'll probably get the same questions in the year 11 mock!

clary · 12/05/2025 12:18

AQA Eng lit – Macbeth - Macbeth's ambition; ACC – importance of kindness. Both good I think.
Culled from friends who teach the spec! Sorry no knowledge of other texts :)

<chance to wheel out "Vaulting ambition" quote>

PerfectPlace · 12/05/2025 12:30

My daughter has reported that Romeo and Juliet question was fine and she very much liked the Christmas Carol question. She doesn’t want to go into it and wants to focus on revision for tomorrow’s exams so I’m presuming all is well.

waitingquietly · 12/05/2025 12:56

Hollyhedge · 12/05/2025 07:58

Good luck all. DS has a nose bleed this morning, but seemed in good spirits otherwise. Hoping the nose bleed doesn’t come back in the exam. Maybe it would add dramatic effect 🤣🤣 Happy to get this one off the list later…

Try not to worry , DS gets nosebleeds - had one in a mock and had extra time allocated

Oblomov25 · 12/05/2025 13:15

What was all the SM stuff? Was there a leaked paper, or suggestions of what the questions would be? I didn't know anything about any of that.
