A new thread to take is to exams and beyond! All welcome.

OP posts:
minisnowballs · 21/03/2025 16:38

Thanks for this @QueenMabby ! I've just stuck the GCSE timetable to the fridge, along with the TWO A-Level timetables. It's going to be an interesting few months.

Soundofshuna · 21/03/2025 16:49

I thought GCSEs and a single A level student was bad!

WhenDoISleep · 21/03/2025 17:16

Gosh @minisnowballs , I imagine the stress levels in your house will be high for a few months but there will be a big sense of relief when it is all over.

Still waiting on the second set of mock results here, they should be in hand next week. We have been contacted about French though and have made the decision to switch DS to Foundation as his results are borderline.

minisnowballs · 21/03/2025 17:21

@Soundofshuna two are mine (one A-Level and one GCSE), the other a girl who lives with us from Ukraine - but she's here without her mum so we're in charge of her as well. Guess I should be grateful DD2 is a boarder so much of it seems to be handled by her houseparent - but I'm dreading the days when everyone has an exam, and there are plenty of those by the looks of things.

Oblomov25 · 21/03/2025 18:27

Thank you very much OP @QueenMabby

Here we go, onto the last stretch.

SuperSue77 · 21/03/2025 18:37

Wow - onto the next thread!

DontWheeshtMe · 21/03/2025 18:47

@HammertimeNC and @Greenbriar
re post on last thread on assessing for dyslexia

Whilst it might help with further exams the deadline for paper changes and extra time has now passed. For the extra time it was today.

NotAPersonalAttack · 21/03/2025 18:50

Thanks, I was just suggesting it in case it helps understand a difficult situation but realise it may not apply.

SB1971 · 21/03/2025 19:40

DS is in Malaga with school on a Spanish trip-just 3 nights so only missing 2 days of school. He is with lots of his pals-16year olds in Malaga-what could go wrong😂!

He had been a bit better this week with he work so progress in that department-we take all the wins!

MrsHamlet · 21/03/2025 19:51

Please please please avoid the "4 quotes for every question" nonsense. It's really ill advised to dump that into essays.

AnythingMuppetTM · 21/03/2025 19:54

Hello, thanks for the thread. I lurked on the last one but felt I should say hello. One DD about to sit GCSEs.
She has applied for a few post GCSE options and has preferred 6th form and a great back up option
She’s worked steadily throughout and that’s all I can really ask for. I’m really proud of her organisation skills and that she’s prioritised the things she likes to do.

Oh. Whys that? Thought it’d save some brain space if he can revise a few quotes that fit different themes?

I wouldn't listen to @MrsHamlet - a couple of months back, she was implying that awarding body assessors mark whole scripts. IIRC, she requested her posts on the subject were removed, once her lack of knowledge on the subject was pointed out 🙄

Yeah. Don't listen to me. I know nothing.

By all means. But NOT just repeating the content of these videos.

Not that anyone should take my advice. I don't know anything about anything.

So it would seem, based on your lack of knowledge on how scripts are marked, yet omnipresent pedagogical insights...🤷🏼‍♀️

sorry!!! 🤣🤣

If you say so.

NotDonna · 21/03/2025 22:43

@pancakestastelikecrepe & @MrsHamlet what is going on? I’ve always found MrsHamlet’s posts very helpful over the years.

I do 😊

MrsHamlet · 21/03/2025 22:56

She's decided, on the basis of my asking for some comments I made to be deleted on that thread last summer, that I don't know what I'm talking about.

Which is, of course, her choice.

I don't doubt that, however, @MrsHamlet as recently as last September was seemingly unaware how scripts are marked

Hmmm...
Not 'my choice', moreover your poor understanding of assessment processes?
You were wildly advising very stressed parents, incorrectly.
It was pointed out by me and another poster.
You requested your inaccurate and misleading advice be removed - quite rightly (good on you for that)

Clearly touched a nerve and so I'll leave you to, err, continue with your English teacher expert advisory service (how do you have the time?!?) 🍎

NotDonna · 22/03/2025 07:38

@pancakestastelikecrepe that thread is a scary read. Seems there were lots of marking errors last year with AQA English! I wonder if it’s tracked and if the examiners receive feedback?
