A new thread to take is to exams and beyond! All welcome.

yep, 1.5 hours per science per week. Combined.

destiel00 · 08/05/2025 15:43

Dd says she thinks it went well

minisnowballs · 08/05/2025 15:50

@destiel00 yay! Good start. Well done to her!

destiel00 · 08/05/2025 16:15

Apparently one of the questions was on a minor character, but one she had revised 😊
All smiles here today 😊

WellyMcLonglegs · 08/05/2025 16:21

Anyone else's dc sit the EDUQAS drama today? Seems there was an issue with one of the sources provided?

I’ve only just realised that DD2 only has 1.5 hours of lessons a week of each science subject. No wonder she’s very shaky on most of the content. Is this normal?

Yes that’s normal at our indie for triple. They were still finishing the biology content last week before they finished on Friday. They seem to do a lot of fluff lessons.

Oblomov25 · 08/05/2025 15:33

My friend last night commented that her dd sitting mainly igcse's at local Indy only has about 14 exams! My ds2 has about 14 before the May bank holiday, 11 after, total 25. In the 2 weeks pre end of May week off, then in the 2 or so weeks after. About 25 in 4 weeks.

I can't remember how many I sat 30+ years ago, but I'm sure I only sat roughly about 12 in about 2 and a half weeks. When did this all get so mental? Gove?

DD3’s are predominantly iGCSES and has 3 subjects with coursework so to cover her 9 iGCSES she has 15 exams in total, with 8 prior to half term & 7 after. Quite nice being evenly split. Most exams are between 2-2.5hrs. A couple are 1.5hrs. At the time all the coursework was a pain but now…

I don’t recall sitting many exams at all. Certainly not blinking 25!

madameMscastle · 08/05/2025 16:31

hello,
i hope someone here could help.
my son is about to sit his GCSEs and every time I show an interest or ask him about revision he shuts the conversion down and tries to start a argument with me.
Ive brought revision card and books but they are still unused.

i dont want to stress him out even more but im so willing to help or just have a interest in what hes doing, when hes revisioning etc (school have sent emails etc) but i prefer to hear it from him.
I have spoken to him about options for his future but hes says he knows everything and at the end of day its his life.

any advice please?

QueenMabby · 08/05/2025 16:33

Dd said German went ok. “Could have been better” but she does tend to focus only on the things she couldn’t do and once I’d chatted to her more it seems there was only the odd question she couldn’t get. It felt odd for her though as the exam wasn’t in the main hall due to the listening so she’s not had that experience yet. Latin language tomorrow morning will be in the main exam hall.

destiel00 · 08/05/2025 16:38

Dd hadn't done a drama paper under exam conditions prior to today (which seems a bit odd??) but she said it was fine.
I wonder if, with drama, so much time is spent prepping the performances and coursework that the written paper is a bit of an afterthought? 🤔

That's very tricky.
I think you've done all you can.
Make sure you have plan b and c for results day -
Btecs, apprenticeships etc

Also, bear in mind he will be doing revision at school

VioletIndigoBlueGreen · 08/05/2025 16:59

DS had German listening and reading today and was positive overall though there was a word he didn’t know. He has a total of 30 papers across 12 GCSEs, which really does feel too much. 18 before half term and 12 after. The next two weeks will not be fun. He’s also trying to fit in practice for an orchestra video audition which is due before the end of GCSEs so it’s lots of fun in our house right now!

minisnowballs · 08/05/2025 17:03

@VioletIndigoBlueGreen that is a LOT of GCSES!

DD2 also has the orchestra video audition issue.
The timing is terrible!

VioletIndigoBlueGreen · 08/05/2025 17:06

@minisnowballsGood luck to your DD - same instrument as my DS so they might meet at the next stage potentially?!

minisnowballs · 08/05/2025 17:20

Gosh @VioletIndigoBlueGreen I shouldn't imagine she has much of a chance of getting that far - she's never tried before and says the excerpts are REALLY HARD...However, she sort of feels she should at least have a go...

VioletIndigoBlueGreen · 08/05/2025 17:23

@minisnowballsThis will be DS’s third try: we are hoping third time lucky, especially as he has a new (to us!) instrument this time round! Year 12 would be a good year for a big musical commitment, but the practice required in the next few weeks is not ideal to put it mildly!

Oh, I hear you!
Older dd in the last weeks of her postgrad...
FUN! 😬😕🫣🤣

minisnowballs · 08/05/2025 17:28

@VioletIndigoBlueGreen Good luck to him! I'm not sure DD2 is doing much (practice that is)....she also has a new (hired) instrument but it might be more of a hindrance than a help as it is so new to her.

14 left for DD now - just counted. She seems fine with how Eng Lang has gone. History tomorrow and she's really nervous for that.

NotDonna · 08/05/2025 17:40

@madameMscastle is he at school full time through the exam season? If so, try not to worry too much as school are likely to be on at him. If he’s shutting you out it’s really really hard. Do you drive him anywhere - sometimes zero eye contact in the car works well. I’ve resorting to texting in the past 🙄 - not whilst driving I hasten to add. Just simple short texts in an attempt to just let them know I’m there if/when needed. Sometimes best thing we can do is back off (I find that incredibly difficult) but it is so hard to know.

Borka · 08/05/2025 18:40

DS did, he said that it wasn't clear that the extract from An Inspector Calls they were supposed to use was in the exam booklet rather than the supplied copy of the play. His teacher was very annoyed about it.

Thanks Borka.

My sons school has lodged a complaint apparently?

SB1971 · 08/05/2025 19:22

DS had his Spanish speaking today-seemed to think it went ok. Is one of his stronger subjects so hoping so.
Is revising as we speak I think now-it’s all becoming pretty real-eek
