Not long to go for results! Hope DS got into sixth form!

Laserwho · 21/07/2024 13:03

Less than 5 weeks now. Carnt come soon enough.

Spacecowboys · 21/07/2024 13:52

Place marking 😂

Waspie · 21/07/2024 13:52

Thanks @Techno56

Counting the days to results day now.

DS has got some voluntary work for a tennis camp week in August. He's really pleased to get the offer and it will look good on his CV when he tries to get a paid job (hopefully!).

Philandbill · 21/07/2024 14:16

Five weeks to results, I'd like them to go slowly as this is my summer holiday 😁

Muchtoomuchtodo · 21/07/2024 14:38

I’ve made an appointment to get sixth form uniform sorted well before results day. Is that tempting fate?!

Pharos · 21/07/2024 17:24

@Techno56 thanks!!
Ds has his first week of nothing, post gardening and work exp and is looking forward to a fair few lie-ins. I’m lining him up to tidy the garden for £ but will give him a couple of days off 😁
@Muchtoomuchtodo sixth form uniform? What do they have to wear? Requirement for ds is a suit, shirt and tie given to them on 1st day. Sixth form is the only mixed bit of the school so girls also have to have ‘smart business attire’

Muchtoomuchtodo · 21/07/2024 17:49

It’s black trousers (or skirt), shirt with the school logo and optional jumper. No official school coat but it has to be black

Completely different from nursery to year 11 who wear navy trousers or skirts, polos and sweatshirts and have to have one of the official school coats.

hels71 · 21/07/2024 17:53

Thanks for the new thread. No uniform at all for DD.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 21/07/2024 18:07

Thanks for the new thread @Techno56 no uniform for DS but suits instead. He’s inheriting his brothers for now..

JessyCarr · 21/07/2024 18:10

No uniform here and not even a dress code beyond “be decent”. But if they are picked for sports teams there will be uniform sports kit to buy.

MrsHamlet · 21/07/2024 20:06

Please don't wish the summer away! Getting here has been a killer...

It has! I'm going into school all of this next week to prep and clear my office. Then a lovely trip to Edinburgh for a few days to see old friends. Can't wait.

MrsHamlet · 21/07/2024 20:38

I will only be going in for results - whistle stop visits. Off on my travels tomorrow :)

WarningOfGails · 21/07/2024 20:41

No uniform for DD at her big FE college. We got an email about travel pass this week - it’s £270 ish per term for the train ticket… she says she got some transition work but not much & she hasn’t really looked at it yet…

Darkbutstarrynight · 22/07/2024 08:48

I have been lurking on here as DD just finishing year 10.....but she has sadly starred self-harming which we believe is due to the pressure of up-coming exams. Sorry to jump on, but I wondered if any if you had such issues and NY suggestions you has for helping to manage the stress? Thanks in advance....

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 22/07/2024 10:23

I'm so sorry to hear that @Darkbutstarrynight , have you let the school know about it, they may be able to offer some help? I don't have any good advice I'm afraid, other than do as much as you can not to add to the pressure just try and support. I found that continuing the activities they enjoy outside of school work during the exam periods (for my DS it was rowing) to be helpful in destressing. Ultimately our children's health is worth a million times more than the grades they get at 16. Sending you a (not very useful but supportive) hug.

Darkbutstarrynight · 22/07/2024 10:29

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn
Thank you for that. Yes school know because it was them that noticed the marks and to be fair have been really good. Ref to camhs done by then LM and already had some contact ...seems to be a really good link with school based service. Will be involves from September in amd out of school. All seems OK at the moment as seems to be according to everyone purely based on exams stress so not school/friends/bullying/food etc as such, just concerned as to how things will go entering year 11. Have tried the reassurance that her health is more important than exams but will have to see how things will go. She is the most unlikely person ever to do this which is why it's flung us so much. She wants to join a gym so have said we'll look into that along with another activity she attends a lot

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 22/07/2024 16:15

It sounds like you're doing all the right things. Encourage her to talk as much as she needs and don't forget the hugs (if she'll let you!). Flowers

gingercat02 · 22/07/2024 17:43

No uniform here either. We need to do a massive clothes shop at some point!

Gazelda · 22/07/2024 17:52

No uniform here.

Business dress, which DD will hate. I'm dreading the shopping trip!

stickthewellyin · 22/07/2024 18:50

Business dress for us too. I do feel it's so outdated these days.

gingercat02 · 22/07/2024 19:21

Just normal clothes, jeans, joggers, trousers, hoodies, whatever. DS would die if he had to do business wear.
TBF most businesses don't do business wear anymore. DH was a suit and tie man pre covid. He is now jeans and presentable t shirts. He's a very senior IT contactor.

Tebheag · 22/07/2024 21:22

Thankfully no uniform for DS he still hasn't made up his mind where to go if he has a choice! think it's due to travel time walking 20 to possible 90 mins on 2 buses would only be about 25 mins depending on traffic in car. Bridging work not started yet though depends where he goes which ALevels he does.

hels71 · 22/07/2024 22:11

DD school said to dress as for the workplace. Her comment..( Thankfully to me and not school!!!) What if I want to be a stripper??
