Ds is currently continuing his summer of fun at Boardmasters!

I don’t think results day could be any further from his mind! He’s still not decided which A levels he’s going to do for definite, maybe seeing his results will help!

LighthouseCat · 08/08/2024 17:57

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn the Scottish results were not great I don't think. Has made me a bit more nervous for DD.

My DS is there tomorrow with his friends. I’m hoping the weather improves from the past two days. 🤞🏻

@LighthouseCat oh that’s not good. 😬

DS was away on an overseas school trip shortly after the end of exams, then we were straight onto our family holiday (my 24 hours of laundry in between not so fun!), so only just now starting to think ahead to the next couple of weeks and beyond. DS has spent today tweaking his CV and applying for weekend jobs - didn’t bother applying for summer jobs as he’s been away so much but he’s keen to earn some cash and get some experience. Fingers crossed but I’ve warned him it might be a long haul. I’m keen for him to earn too, as he starts driving lessons mid September a few days after his birthday! He’ll be preparing for his theory test over the next few weeks. Blows my mind that we’re at this stage.

He apparently does have bridging work for two of his three A level choices, but happy for him to worry about that after results - his current school has very high minimum standards to get into sixth form, and though he should be fine, I think it’s better all round that we just ignore specific school prep for the next couple of weeks.

I think Boardmasters is a great first independent festival, I know a fair few who are there. Hope all the DCs there have a great time.

Ilovewillow · 09/08/2024 06:41

College for A levels here, so very excited for no school uniform. Just a hideously expensive train season ticket! Just want the results now so we can all move on to a new phase, youngest left primary too so it's all change as he's going to a different secondary school! Eek!

Waspie · 09/08/2024 09:22

I'd never heard of Boardmasters but I've just googled and it looks great! I hope your DC are having fun there and that the weather improves.

All the teens in my area do the Reading Festival as their first festival but it's not the event it was when I was young. They just don't have the great bands that we had in the 90's 😎

DS Just back from NCS after nearly not going due to nerves he had a great time and wished it had been longer!
Dreading results day even had a dream about it last night. I am lost on the high grades with DD I am not bothered about exams or results as she should be fine passing them all hopefully end of year report was 9s and 8s.She normally tells friends she did OK and is happy with her grade when they ask if they are excited that they did better than expected. DS 1 will be a fail Spanish can live with that English is the worry and two others where hoovering close to 4s.Still not decided where he is going though might not have a choice depending on English.

Tebheag · 10/08/2024 07:31

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz DS has an under 19s account with Lloyd's also has a savings account I pay pocket money to savings and he transfers what he needs normally keeps at least £15 ish in current account. DD has the same but under 16 so I do the transfers between savings and current ac

DD is starting to get nervous now. We can't be sure of her sixth form place until results.

She's had a busy first half of the long summer but the next couple of weeks are quiet (expect for Taylor Swift next weekend!) so it's not helping with the waiting.

Countrylife2002 · 10/08/2024 21:42

I can’t think about results. We’ve just got back from Vienna having planned to see Taylor Swift. I just don’t want dd to have another disappointment so quickly. I know that’s a bit negative but she was so freaked by the close call we had I really want her to be overjoyed with her results

Oh no, how disappointing for you and your DD. My DD is a massive Swiftie and we saw her in Liverpool in June, I know how she would have felt so you have my sympathies! Hopefully she will be able move on soon and get the positive results she has worked for.

Although my DD is not showing signs outwardly of stress, if I mention results I am shut down immediately, which is fair enough. I will just worry internally or vent to my Dsis who also has a Y11 awaiting results. Just hoping this next week goes quickly.

I think, whether we like it or not, that it’s going to focus their minds that 22nd August is creeping ever nearer when the A level results come out on Thursday.

Yes I agree with this. We're also starting to get "how to enrol" emails from the places DS is holding offers from which is bringing home how close it is. We're not talking about it at home but DS is definitely thinking about it; consciously or not.

gingercat02 · 13/08/2024 09:25

DS was going out last night, and he looked really sad. I asked when he came in, and he said he keeps getting waves of fear as the day gets closer 😞😫

MiniMidiMaxi · 13/08/2024 22:40

After just over a week of post-exam chilling, ds went straight off on a two week school trip, a family holiday, then an extended family short visit - now home with no more plans in the last three weeks, and suddenly he’s very aware of the pending results. He should be ok to return to his school sixth form, but the entry requirements are high and it’s oversubscribed for external applicants so no leeway. We just talked today about what he’s ok with doing pre results - starting on bridging work was a yes, ordering suitable ‘office wear’ clothes was a no. And plans for after results are developing - apparently Nandos is already booked!

felissamy · 14/08/2024 18:38

My DD looks so anxious, it is making me feel quite sick. Doesn't want me near the envelope opening though!

BlackBean2023 · 15/08/2024 08:26

A Level results Day has heightened the nerves in our house- she has friends in Y13 who are bemoaning grade boundaries going up!

Oh heck!!!

gingercat02 · 15/08/2024 13:46

I dreamt last night that DS put the wrong exam number on all his papers and therefore got no results at all!

BlackBean2023 · 15/08/2024 14:42

@Panic71 it seems to have died down again as they've all got their first choice unis despite some of them missing their grades.

Only 6 more days of this up and down...

Spacecowboys · 15/08/2024 14:55

Im ’allowed’ to go to school on results day but have to wait in the car 😂. Whats everyone else doing?

I'm also allowed to wait in the car - around the corner.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 15/08/2024 16:09

I’m expecting ds to go in to get his results with his friends, then we’ll both go back in because he needs to sort out which a levels he’s going to do. There’s an unfortunate clash in the choices columns so he needs to firm up his back up choices with the head of 6th form
