My DD was the same, she said none of the questions we tried to anticipate were asked and she was most annoyed they didn’t ask her extracurricular activities as she was hoping to impress them. She was asked to talk about a picture, her view on community/charity work and a maths question as well. The taster lesson was a history lesson I believe, she said everyone was quite quiet during the lesson but perked up and started answering towards the latter half

CocoC · 11/01/2024 15:21

Funny, mine was in the first morning session and she said they had to describe a picture, and do a group exercise building a bridge with straws in a ‘science’ lesson.

Sunnyside77 · 11/01/2024 15:35

Anyone heard from Emanuel? I assume it’s today since it’s says “we will email by 12th of January”. Thanks

ItsMeHi48 · 11/01/2024 15:36

Our DDs must have been in the same session @CocoC as mine was also in the science lesson building a bridge. She enjoyed that but did remark she was particularly happy to have got lucky and had that session vs the English, Greek mythology or other which wouldn’t be her preference! I wonder was it totally random what groups they were put in?
Interview was talking about a pic, a maths Q, she was asked what idea she might have for a business (?!) and then more general stuff around fav subjects, how her friends might describe her etc. It sounded more challenging than I was perhaps expecting although the person who interviewed her sounded friendly and as though he put her at ease. Hoping it went well as it’s a favourite for us 🤞of course no idea how they assess or weight exam results vs interview etc so who knows if DD stands a chance

ALongProcess · 11/01/2024 15:36

Heard today yes to Whitgift 11+ interview 😀. Anyone else? Any intel from past years?

SkaterGrrrrl · 11/01/2024 15:40

Congratulations on the Whitgift interview, ALongProcess!

Can anyone tell me how a 'maths interview ' at KGS works please?

Do they set problems to be solved or just have a chat about maths?!

Balhamdad11 · 11/01/2024 15:45

We also got the invite to Whitgift interview today. Delighted for our son who has put in so much hard work. Does anyone know the past ratios of offer to interviews?

Mine didn't describe a maths Q (probably a good thing as far as she is concerned), sounded like a very general chat about her school.... But that said mine always comes out quite happy, and let's say that hasn't always been born out by the exam results! ;)

ItsMeHi48 · 11/01/2024 15:48

I hear you @CocoC - similar experiences over here with mine ;-) well good luck to your DD🤞they’re all just trying their best

lolo99 · 11/01/2024 16:00

Did everyone who got Hampton interviews get an email today saying Dear Parent for the next steps? Usually they address it to you using your name.

safetyzone · 11/01/2024 16:03

allaboutmychildren · 11/01/2024 12:02

@Iffiyas we haven't heard anything yet from LEH. Website says mid-Jan, hopefully next week. If we are invited, the interviews are between 23rd -25th Jan

In the same boat here. DD 1 sat for LEH 2 years ago, and we got a letter (by post!) sent on 14th arriving the next day. So I suspect it will come through tomorrow but I hope it's by email this time...

squirrelofsw19 · 11/01/2024 16:25

@Sunnyside77 We heard about Emanuel music scholarships last night so am assuming/hoping the academic bit won’t be too far behind….

ALongProcess · 11/01/2024 16:25

@SkaterGrrrrl thanks!

swlondon24 · 11/01/2024 16:30

@squirrelofsw19 that is promising, results can't be too far off then. I thought they would send out the interview invites before second round scholarship invites - or is there only one round for music? We are waiting for sports but I assumed this would come after the interview invites (you'd think they won't invite DCs who aren't invited to interview to a second round scholarship assessment, wouldn't you?)... here's refreshing with even more frequency now :-)

Sunnyside77 · 11/01/2024 16:34

Thanks! Fingers crossed for everyone

Wondermumof4 · 11/01/2024 17:10

@squirrelofsw19 what time did you receive the email from Emanuel ? I think they will send them all tomorrow finger crossed the wait is terrible🤯

squirrelofsw19 · 11/01/2024 17:36

@Wondermumof4 1558 on 10th Jan to be precise! Spent a while wondering whether I’d missed an email on the exam results then found this thread and realised no-one had heard yet…

Wondermumof4 · 11/01/2024 17:43

Ok thanks ! It will definitely be tomorrow anyway as they say 12 th and its Friday ! Its the last one we are waiting 🤯

Summerma · 11/01/2024 18:01

@lolo99 the email we received earlier today from Hampton was addressed to “dear parent” all previous was my title and surname

Mintie190 · 11/01/2024 18:20

Hampton’s communications are starting to grate on me. It was unnecessary to send an email to 230+ parents about not offering a scholarship interview. Never heard of schools contacting anyone other than those who got the interview. Then today’s email was pointless. They said that some children had been invited to a scholarship interview (yeah, you told us yesterday) but also failed to disclose that others have been invited to a maths extension session on 24 Feb which is pretty indicative that they will get an offer on 9 Feb. In between the good luck card and the Christmas card, I’m finding it all a bit OTT and stress inducing more so than anything else.

springsunshine10 · 11/01/2024 19:05

@Mintie190 I hadn't heard about the maths extension for Hampton. Which boys were invited for that? Is it a bad sign to have not been invited?

Mintie190 · 11/01/2024 19:48

springsunshine10 · 11/01/2024 19:05

@Mintie190 I hadn't heard about the maths extension for Hampton. Which boys were invited for that? Is it a bad sign to have not been invited?

Well it’s as ‘bad’ as not getting an academic scholarship interview. They have said that 30 - 35 would be interviewed. I’m guessing they offered another 10 - 15 the maths extension session and will have 2 classes of 40 - 50 boys at the session. They have 165 places but 65 have already been allocated to the prep school and 10+ so really 100 places. So with the scholarship and maths extension boys presumably all in line for an offer, that leaves 50 spaces for the remaining 210 boys who got to the interview stage. They will over offer and some of the 10+ boys will ditch Hampton for Kings, St P etc but it’s not great odds, particularly if you’re in the private system already since they have said they offer more to state school applicants. I just think they are pretending to be transparent with today’s communication but they failed to disclose the maths extension invitation so their engagement is questionable if you ask me. I think you can learn a lot from the admissions process and I have felt Hampton is a bit fake.

Summerma · 11/01/2024 19:53

@Mintie190 I think you’re on the money here re Hampton. My favourite is Emanuel. DS’s is Hampton. If we are lucky to get offers for both, I’ll be lobbying strongly for Emanuel. It’s the facade of transparency that irks me.

itsanewera · 11/01/2024 19:53

Although most of those who have a 10 plus offer also sit the 11 plus and may also be interviewed for a scholarship. And lots of boys with 10 plus offers don't end up going there so that will be taken into account with offers.

DrBeatt · 11/01/2024 19:57

Hi everyone, I’m a little bit concerned now after reading about the FHSS interview - my daughter like a PP had a 5 minute interview with a maths question and shown a picture.
she was also one of the last girls to be seen because of her surname.
is this normal?shouldn’t all the kids be getting an equal shot?
