@GCSEherewego hello! What are Radnor saying to current parents about the timing of the move to Kneller Hall?

W4mamabear · 23/01/2024 10:00

Morning! Any insights on number of girls invited to interview vs offers vs spots available for Putney? As we are in the ‘twiddling thumbs’ phase, I find this question keeping me awake at night 😐

GCSEherewego · 23/01/2024 11:03

Sadly they are at the mercy of the glacial pace of Richmond Planning. As soon as that is passed they are ready to roll with full construction crew and funding. They say perhaps they will be in for 2025 but if not they'll just carry on as they've always done.

Edited

@Wondermumof4 my DD went through the process last year.
In case useful, I enclose last year's timing - The confirmation that she was getting an interview came on the 16th, the actual interview day was communicated on the 20th. Her interview was on the 28th. Before the interview they sent a form to fill in with extra-curricular / interests.
Good luck.

travelturtle · 23/01/2024 11:28

@Wondermumof4 nothing here yet either. May need to break cover and call the school tomorrow if not received today as need to work out some tricky logistics for this weekend (it’s one of those weekends 🥴)

Wondermumof4 · 23/01/2024 11:43

Thank you @QuiteAJourney !
was thinking same thing @travelturtle my son as a football practice Saturday morning , i need to organise and know if i should cancel of not :( hopefully they send an email tomorrow

This wait is killing me! DD is relaxed and has forgotten all about it. She is delighted school is a bit more fun and less focused on maths and English all the time! I wonder what the process is now for these schools, do they have a panel? Would be fascinating to see. I remember watching a frankly terrifying documentary about the entrance processes for Kindergartens in New York and would to see an 11+ version.

PreplexJ · 24/01/2024 17:11

There is no 11+ equivalent in NY and US. The closest is the entrance to competitive selective high school which the test took place at high middle school year (13+). The test age made a big difference.

Compared to London, the competition is high and tutoring is rife, if not the next level, and parents are more open to it.

minipie · 24/01/2024 18:42

farfalla I think it’s tough for the schools too, let’s face it there are lots of bright high achieving kids around and probably not a lot to choose between them. Plus they know everybody applies to several and they have the whole gamble of trying to work out who really wants that school and how much to over offer by.

I expect they do have a panel, if only so the different interviewers could share their thoughts. And also for defensibility (is that a word) just in case of challenge.

farfallarocks · 25/01/2024 21:03

Good point!

Wondermumof4 · 26/01/2024 09:47

Anyone had Dulwich interview already ? Did it go ok ? Im wondering what they will ask to us parents , they asked for us to come…

CocoC · 26/01/2024 16:31

Just in case it is of use to anyone- I have emailed the schools my DD didn’t get to interview stage for asking for some feedback (approximate scores/ how far off she was from cutoff), and I got a response very quickly (couple of lines).

Summerma · 26/01/2024 16:46

That’s good to know, thank you for sharing. Did you find the feedback helpful? Suspect I may be inclined to do this if DS gets waitlisted/doesn’t get an offer - though by that stage it’ll be a bit late to help him...

Out of interest which schools provided feedback? I emailed one school and they just said it wasn't their policy to provide feedback so I haven't bothered with any others yet.

CocoC · 26/01/2024 17:14

Godolphin and Emanuel. It wasn't detailed feedback, it was just where her better/worse scores were and how far off she was - which to me was still useful.

Thanks for sharing. Out of interest, does that mean they advised what the cutoff for Godolphin was?

CocoC · 26/01/2024 18:48

No. They just told me whether she was near or far.

Wondermumof4 · 26/01/2024 19:27

That good thank you ! I m thinking to call and ask after offer day …

Bluerose2020 · 26/01/2024 19:48

I heard yesterday that - due to volume - Emanuel and Alleyns just marked random 3 ques per paper rather than the whole thing. Has anyone else heard this? I was always told Emanuel is a lottery and, if this is true, I understand why! 🤯

Summerma · 26/01/2024 19:51

Emanuel took over a month to come back with interview results (granted the Xmas break was between) but nevertheless I think marking 3 questions would be an odd/bizarre approach

travelturtle · 26/01/2024 19:54

I’ve never heard this and can’t imagine any school would take that approach as it really would produce random/unexpected results. Sometimes the schools do get it wrong and turn down candidates who would do brilliantly at the school, but only marking 3 questions would be madness and doesn’t make any sense.

Wondermumof4 · 26/01/2024 19:54

@Bluerose2020 i do not think so , that would be really unfair !

lolo99 · 26/01/2024 20:03

What utter nonsense. Of course they don't. It 'could' be that they pinpointed certain questions that would show if the child was bright enough. But I doubt at all it was 'just 3.'

Summerma · 26/01/2024 20:05

@lolo99 agreed
