I heard yesterday that - due to volume - Emanuel and Alleyns just marked random 3 ques per paper rather than the whole thing. Has anyone else heard this? I was always told Emanuel is a lottery and, if this is true, I understand why! 🤯

Edited

Heard from who? I can't imagine anyone who would know would actually admit that.

@Bluerose2020 , both schools, Alleyns and Emanuel would mark papers not just random questions. @CocoC , had Emanuel feedback so it can’t be on 3 questions.

Bluerose2020 · 26/01/2024 23:09

Yes, I thought it sounded ridiculous! Hence I asked the question on here.

minipie · 27/01/2024 09:28

Someone trying to put you off those schools maybe Bluerose? Or justify why their kid did not get through…? Who knows why these rumours start but that one sounds totally crazy. The schools will have to teach the offerees for 7 years, they wouldn’t want to make offers based on 3 questions just to make their life easier for a few weeks!

SkaterGrrrrl · 28/01/2024 12:56

Radnor House interview yesterday was certainly different! Team building games and exercises in the school hall - such as placing mats on the ground and playing the floor is lava. Presumably teachers watching to see which kids were respectful, polite, team players etc.

The only talking DS did was when they asked the kids to go round and talk about 'their area of expertise' - an instrument, sport, hobby etc. He talked about a sport he enjoys.

QuiteAJourney · 28/01/2024 13:17

@SkaterGrrrrl sounds fun! Was that your last one? If so, quite a nice way to end things.

SkaterGrrrrl · 28/01/2024 13:26

Last one and breathe! We have a nice holiday booked for half term so will either be celebrating or commiserating from a hotel in the sunshine!

Lizardlegs · 28/01/2024 15:59

@SkaterGrrrrl my DD liked the Radnor interview too, sounds like it was chilled and fun. Fingers crossed to your DS too - it certainly seemed popular despite the uncertainty around the new site.

lolo99 · 28/01/2024 16:04

Is anyone awaiting Epsom? Do they normally take a spread of 'results' or are they starting to cherry pick the top scorers now? Anyone already there from last year and can shed some light? I really liked the school.

FrontedAdverbial · 28/01/2024 16:52

Possibly outcomes from Surbiton this week I suppose....

Gulp.

swlondon24 · 28/01/2024 17:33

@lolo99 everybody should get their Epsom results on the same day. I think it was the Tuesday before others in the last two years which would make it Feb 6th I think. Surbiton was a week earlier so potentially this Friday 2nd. I think PHS/WHS also a few days earlier than others. Not too long now!

PHS and WHS were last year on the same "big day" as most. Not early, I am afraid.

swlondon24 · 28/01/2024 17:39

just checked and PHS was definitely Tuesday Feb 7th last year. perhaps WHS was on Friday.

minipie · 28/01/2024 17:44

WHS website says 9th Feb. Emanuel website says they will post on 8th but surely they must email as well.. guessing on the 9th.

I stand corrected. PHS was early. WHS was definitely on Friday (we did not apply to PHS so I was gonna by, obviously bad, memory). We got the offer from WHS on the 10th (Friday) in the early afternoon... though worth checking the application portal as sometimes it updates before emails are sent.

Emmanuel emails too - we got the email before the letter.

Thank you- I meant more about the pass mark for getting in. They interviewed early on so it's difficult to know 'who' actually gets in unlike some of the schools who only interview you if you were high enough.

so it sounds like
Friday 2nd - potentially Surbiton?
Tuesday 6th - perhaps Epsom + PHS
Friday - everyone else? KGS/Ibstock/Emanuel/WHS/LEH/G&L/SPGS etc
Not sure about St John's? We didn't apply there but perhaps they send offers early as well?

Thank you- yes day to hear. So 6th of February then.

And yes do they only take their top scorers @Hatty999 ?

swlondon24 · 28/01/2024 17:58

@Hatty999 @lolo99 def not just the top scorers as they are looking for well roundedness and personality fit. Generous with siblings and also interested in extracurricular skills (sports, drama, music etc).

TW1schools · 28/01/2024 18:22

Thanks for the intel. LEH said Thursday 8th for their results

redrobin75 · 28/01/2024 18:26

Yes agree with @swlondon24 re Epsom, sibling and sporty plus rounded personality.

travelturtle · 28/01/2024 18:34

Out of the ones we’ve applied to KGS and Emanuel say they post on 8 Feb but v glad if they follow up with an email as well on 9th as 2 years ago we definitely were waiting for our postman!

Radnor also went a day early 2 years ago but may have been a one off.
