@hiitsquare , I won't derail this thread as there will be lots of similar in early March but you can get more than 1 scholarship so some boys have 2 (music and academic), we didn't apply to tiffin and if we had my ds wouldn't have got in, possibly a WL place if we had been lucky. I personally don't know anyone who turned down Tiffin to go to Hampton without a scholarship, Tiffin is a very good school, they had @ 35 Oxbridge offers last year. If you get a Hampton offer and go to the open day for offers they will spend lots of time explaining the differences and justifying the fees.

hiitsquare · 20/01/2024 20:49

@Summerma @tennissquare many thanks for your insights! ds really love Hampton, let's see how it goes in 3 wks time!

Summerma · 20/01/2024 21:05

Good luck to him @hiitsquare !

minipie · 22/01/2024 13:42

We are completely done 😮‍💨 just a waiting game now. Wish I had a crystal ball! Good luck to those still going through exams and interviews.

farfallarocks · 22/01/2024 14:48

We have one more! Dd is enjoying the interview phase much more. Next 3 weeks will be painful, dread to think how much email refreshing will go on on the 9th!

ALongProcess · 22/01/2024 15:10

@minipie @farfallarocks how did you find things this weekend?

farfallarocks · 22/01/2024 15:12

Dd loved the Emanuel interview, seemed to have a great time! What about you?

ALongProcess · 22/01/2024 15:16

One stoic bub who enjoyed the day but one utterly exhausted parent!! ;-)

Balhamdad11 · 22/01/2024 16:10

Our boy seemed to enjoy Emanuel interview too… but the maths don’t fill you with confidence. 500 interviews for less than 100 places. Going to be quite a few disappointed kids (and their parents!)

Summerma · 22/01/2024 16:17

DS was beaming after Emanuel process, said the group exercise was great fun and his group were a lovely bunch. We’re all done now too. Just twiddling our thumbs until 9 Feb…

minipie · 22/01/2024 16:23

My DD enjoyed Emanuel but said one boy in her group kept talking over everyone else… none of your lot I’m sure !! Her individual interviewer seemed lovely.

She also enjoyed Alleyns … they gave out enormous bars of chocolate which I’m sure helped their PR!

One of the schools we have applied for, JAGS, sends offers on the 8th, rest on the 9th. Wonder what their thinking is on going a day early.

SkaterGrrrrl · 22/01/2024 16:38

Anyone else going to Radnor interview/exercise on Saturday?

ALongProcess · 22/01/2024 16:39

Yes, @minipie, amazing what a bar of chocolate can do!

Lizardlegs · 22/01/2024 17:52

Yes @SkaterGrrrrl - Radnor on Sat, sounds fine for the kids but still have no idea how many places they have/when they realistically think they’ll be moving to the new site. Keeping an open mind I guess! 🤷‍♀️

LanguageTestQuery · 22/01/2024 18:42

Remember that many of those 500 (I heard 400 so who knows) interviewed children will end up holding multiple offers so Emanuel will have to offer quite a few places and, I imagine, run into a wait list. Fingers crossed for everyone!

Vetiver444 · 22/01/2024 20:21

@Lizardlegs @SkaterGrrrrl us too - have a fear that it’s going to be literally a handful of places 😬

They have automatic entry too to their current year 6s so IF no new site, they will be limited. :( Potentially a lot of waiting list offers to try and keep hold of people.

That’s why we decided not to apply to Radnor, limited places for quite an onerous 2 step assessment!
I also head 400 at emanuel
interviews and seems everyone loved it. I imagine they will offer 200-250 spots to fill 85? Might be wishful thinking but a lot of dds mates have applied to alleyns as well as all the relevant single sex schools and most would choose alleyns over Emanuel.

farfallarocks · 22/01/2024 21:00

@minipie I imagine talking over others is ideally what they don’t want from a candidate!

GCSEherewego · 22/01/2024 21:32

Hi team, current Radnor parent here. Just to say that the last info from head was 96 places with 60 potentially coming through from the prep and maybe a few from other Dukes schools. That's pretty much same number of open spots as it was when my oldest joined a few years ago. Best of luck!

Potentially then that is about 20 places available (if you do a ball park 15 spaces from their other Duke's schools). I hope they told all the outside parents that BEFORE they paid the £150 and their children sat the exams.

Thanks for the intel @GCSEherewego , much appreciated. Sounds like a bit of a long shot for a non-Dukes school child, but nothing to lose by giving it a go I guess.

SkaterGrrrrl · 22/01/2024 22:14

Good luck lizard and Vetiver DC. And thanks Hatty.

Lizardlegs · 22/01/2024 22:28

And good luck to you too @SkaterGrrrrl - it’s going to be interesting to see how they manage parental expectations 😅

Summerma · 22/01/2024 22:56

Can I ask where others heard 400 interviews at Emanuel from? I heard 500 (albeit with the caveat “don’t quote me” which is exactly what I’m doing…) from the Senior Deputy Head, Mrs Peters who was talking to two dads as I was grabbing a cup of tea during DS’s interview.
