Hiya, does anyone have experience of 11 Plus entrance exam at Stockport Grammar?

My DD is taking it in Jan. She's bright, but tends to panic a bit in exams so might not do as well as she's capable of. I can't find any information online about the pass mark.

I also wondered if they invited all children to an interview? She does really well in those!

Thanks, a slightly stressed mum ;-)

That’s good they tell you roughly where he was then.
Nice to hear he’s enjoying himself too - we didn’t practice for the exam but he came out feeling ‘ok’ about it, but what that means is anyone’s guess :)
Do you think if you don’t get an interview they still contact you to say they haven’t been successful?

Clearinguptheclutter · 15/01/2025 13:01

@Mums37 yeah I would expect them to let you know either way. The interview wasn’t hard at all, quire relaxed. I think we were told that they interview a “high” proportion of those who sit the test. I was under the impression that the “reference” from the primary school counted for quite a lot too though I don’t know that for sure

DS was offered a place despite not saying much at all at the interview (he is quite a shy kid). We declined in the end though (due to financial factors and him being offered first choice state)

I don't actually know if the people who didn't get an interview eventually got an email letting them know they weren't successful. As far as I am aware, they hadn't heard anything on the 12th when we all got our interview emails.

TravelGirl01 · 16/01/2025 16:53

@Mums37 Our DD was there on Tuesday, too. Quite a daunting day with the number of exams but it was good that it was broken up with some breaks and activities. Have you heard anything yet? We had an email around lunchtime to book an appointment for the interview. Wishing you luck!

Mums37 · 16/01/2025 19:14

Yes @TravelGirl01 🙌 we got an email at lunchtime to book an appointment.

I am so confused if they interview everyone or not? Seems silly to interview if they’ve not ‘passed’ the tests.

TravelGirl01 · 16/01/2025 20:15

Ahh, that’s great news @Mums37 ! My understanding from previous parents going through the admissions’ process and from the school’s website is that no, not everyone is offered an interview. The site says: “Those invited for a post-examination meeting will be notified by email within two weeks of the entrance exam.” But no idea on the numbers that they do actually interview.

Mums37 · 16/01/2025 21:41

@TravelGirl01 Have you booked yours? Ours isn’t for a week or so yet - had to book the time off work.

let us know how it goes and if they give you any indication of how your daughter got on in the exam 😬

Hi, my DD did the entrance exams for both SGS and King’s. On the open days for both we liked both schools but felt they were quite different. Can I ask if anyone has had to choose between the two, and if so, which one did you choose and are you happy with the choice?

TravelGirl01 · 03/02/2025 14:44

Hi @Mums37, hope the interview went as well as it could! We only had ours last week. It's hard to know what they're looking for at this stage, and how much weight is on exam vs interview vs school reference. We'll see, I guess! How did you find it?

Mums37 · 03/02/2025 19:37

Hi @TravelGirl01 yes it went ok, I didn’t even know they ask for a school reference I must have missed that part 🤦‍♀️

It really is hard to know isn’t it? Did yours give any indication of how they did in the exam? I couldn’t call it either way our ds was quite nervous so not sure how much that matters.

We had ours last Friday - we all get told on the 25th they said to us.

TravelGirl01 · 03/02/2025 20:15

Don’t worry re the school reference @Mums37. I think they write directly to the school to ask for one. I’m sure I saw it stated on the website that if a school then doesn’t provide one, your child’s chances will not be damaged.
Our dd was nervous too and I’m sure they expect children in that kind of environment to not necessarily be fully themselves or how they would be if they were a student there. Glad it’s all done now, to be honest!

Mums37 · 03/02/2025 21:39

@TravelGirl01 Oh ok, that’s good to hear then! Yes I am glad it’s done with now let’s just wait and see.
Do you know how many people they offer? I didn’t ask but would be good to know.
