Stockport Grammar 11 Plus

Hiya, does anyone have experience of 11 Plus entrance exam at Stockport Grammar?

My DD is taking it in Jan. She's bright, but tends to panic a bit in exams so might not do as well as she's capable of. I can't find any information online about the pass mark.

I also wondered if they invited all children to an interview? She does really well in those!

How do you know the numbers? I've googled so often but never found anything 🤣

I assume that number for SGS doesn’t include those who are already at the junior school? Seems a bit low otherwise?

Hello - this popped up in my Active Threads and I was in this position a year ago, so I wanted to come on and wish you all good luck!

My DC started in September and I can't recommend the school enough: it is brilliant.

If it helps with the waiting nerves:

• DC joined Y7 from a state primary, with no tutoring but we did crunch through the practice papers at home.
• at interview we were told they were in the top 200 (out of 600) for exam results.
• DC interview performance was underwhelming IMO (uncharacteristically nervous, tongue-tied and monosyllabic), but it didn't seem to matter in the end.
• on results day, the process ran like clockwork. Email to parents dropped just after 9am. Letter to child landed on the doormat that same day. I don't know if they do this every year, but the envelope also included a cardboard "golden ticket," which was a nice touch.

Yes, have to say I remember from DD1 that it ran like clockwork - only the letter and email (and golden ticket!) came on the same day as state school offers so felt more intense!

CHS defo says 26th on the website, I dont know what's happened? Hopefully tomorrow will bring news. 400 is a lot of interviews for 129 places! I wonder how many offers there are.

I'm trying to remember back to the interview and I'm sure the head said they have 8 forms of 24 so that's 192 minus the junior school pupils.

Ooh I didn't realise. I think the Juniors still have to sit the exams? My other DD is starting there in Sept and they talked about exam prep when giving us a tour.

Yes I believe they do but I would expect most pass and I have no idea how many of them there are

That’s correct it’s excluding the children in the juniors xx

colleague’s son went to the junior school and did sit the exam but was told that place in senior school was pretty much a given, except for very rare circumstances. I think pretty much all his son’s cohort went.

I think the prep children in effect go through the motions of exam & interview but non ever fail it. Not sure why they bother interviewing them. The whole process must cost a fortune in extra staffing. Personally I don't like the 'golden ticket' as it feels like a ticket to entitlement.. whilst the children obv work hard to get there, a huge amount of tutoring and money is involved. At our state primary there was SGS kids boasting about their golden tickets out of the state schools.

I think that's probably wrong on the website. The south Manchester schools are in a consortium that releases all the offers on the same day so nobody has an advantage, so they definitely should be in line with all the others.
