Stockport Grammar 11 Plus

Hiya, does anyone have experience of 11 Plus entrance exam at Stockport Grammar?

My DD is taking it in Jan. She's bright, but tends to panic a bit in exams so might not do as well as she's capable of. I can't find any information online about the pass mark.

I also wondered if they invited all children to an interview? She does really well in those!

Thanks, a slightly stressed mum ;-)

Great news for everyone! How lovely! Weve saved the envelope opening for him after school. Also got CHS but we will be accepting SGS. Haven't they all done well! So pleased.

TheTwinklySnake · 27/02/2024 15:29

Well done everyone! I came across this thread yesterday when I was so nervous waiting for results!!!
would be lovely to get in touch/ be in contact with anyone going to SGS! We are delighted that our daughter has offers for SGS and CHS but think we will accept SGS. Anyone live near Sale area? I’m worried everyone will be closer to Stockport!

MushPeas · 27/02/2024 15:54

Hiya, we live further away in Buxton. Would be great to start a support thread for new parents / kids to SGS :) My DD will be the only one from her school going.
SO excited to let her open the letter later!

Ah Mush I know Buxton well! Is there a school bus from there? I seem to think some pupils get the train?

MushPeas · 27/02/2024 16:25

Hi @TimMcGraw there's the train, no bus. Our youngest DD is starting Junior in Sept so she'll be too young to go on public transport. We now have to figure out how to get them there!

Our daughter has also got offers from SGS and Kings. We have asked to go on tours as still not sure which to accept. Well done everybody

Clearinguptheclutter · 27/02/2024 19:29

Is anyone else making a state vs SGS decision?

we are hoping to get a place at hazel grove high on Friday, and then decide what’s best. Financially we can afford it but with a younger son too it’s basically a two boy decision not a one boy decision. ££££

MushPeas · 27/02/2024 20:58

Hi @Lunamoon13 congratulations to your DD for getting an offer from both.
@Clearinguptheclutter we live around the corner from a state school which we like, but there's family history at SGS and they both really like it so sending DD1 to Senior and DD2 to Junior. So many £££ :(

Hi there
hoping someone will reply 🤞
my son is looking to sit the Trafford 11+ in 2 weeks but we are also looking to have him sit the Stockport grammar exam in the new year. Does anyone know how similar the Trafford exam is to the Stockport Grammar exam? I know that non verbal reasoning doesn’t come up which ironically is my sons strongest subject 😂 But are there are any similarities with the exams?

thank you. It’s all very stressful isn’t it?

Justgivemesomepeace · 01/10/2024 18:44

I've no idea about the Trafford exam, but Stockport Grammar have sample papers on the website and explain what to expect. It was exactly as the website explained when DS sat last year.

Mrsdeehoang · 01/10/2024 21:51

The exams are quite similar. If you have done prep for the 11+ Trafford area, you should be fine with the Stockport. You should attend the taster day and the exam takes place in January. My son did both Stockport and Manchester grammar. I would say Manchester grammar is a lot more difficult and they have a different exam test.
hope this helps

Hi, I am wondering if anyone’s dd/ds has sat the entrance exam for Stockport Grammar school? How long it is until you find out if they have an interview & do they interview all children?

OldElpatso · 14/01/2025 22:09

Hi, my son sat the SGS exam last year - which is why I still get alerts for this thread! The exam was on the 10th Jan, and we got an email on the 12th to say he had an interview. Most of the people we know did get an interview, but not all, so I don't know what percentage of kids that sit the exam will get an interview. Good luck!

Mums37 · 15/01/2025 08:35

ohh , Thank You for that. I am suprised they mark all the tests within that time frame but I guess it stops us all waiting 😅
Did your child get a place offered?
At interview do they give any indication of how well the child did?

OldElpatso · 15/01/2025 10:47

Yes, my son was offered a place. He is there now and absolutely loves it!
At the interview we were given a good idea how he had done in the exam and told which quartile of results he was in. We left feeling quietly optimistic he would be offered a place, but still worried about it until we got the letter!

Ps. The interview was quite informal and they do a great job of getting the children (and the parents) to relax. It is more like a chat to get to know the child, than a formal interview.
