Stockport Grammar 11 Plus

Hiya, does anyone have experience of 11 Plus entrance exam at Stockport Grammar?

My DD is taking it in Jan. She's bright, but tends to panic a bit in exams so might not do as well as she's capable of. I can't find any information online about the pass mark.

I also wondered if they invited all children to an interview? She does really well in those!

Thanks, a slightly stressed mum ;-)

If they want your child you'll get an offer. But they try offer such that they don't end up with too many or too few

MushPeas · 01/02/2024 09:12

Hi @Mrsdeehoang they asked us, but we had only applied for SG and the local comp. Reading other private school threads, it seems a pretty standard question.

How did the rest of the interview go?

Hi all, I'm assuming you also received the email about the ISI? They also said we can contact them if we have any questions about admissions. Yes, my question is have we been offered a place 😂

Hi what is ISI?

Lunamoon13 · 09/02/2024 21:18

Sorry just seen the email. It was only emailed to my partner. I think they’ve sent it to everyone that had an interview

MushPeas · 10/02/2024 15:43

Yeah I think they did too :)

Well... ds got an offer at another school and was awarded their music scholarship hes decided thats the school he wants to go to so we have accepted their offer (hes had two offers from two schools already.) He didnt want to wait for sgs, as (very cleverly) the other schools.offers are only open till midday on 1/3!

I will carry on watching this thread though and wish you all the most luck!!!

Lunamoon13 · 17/02/2024 15:01

Well done to your son. We still have 10 days to wait for offers. My daughter sat the exams at SGS and Kings. She had interviews at both schools. We are still not sure where our favourite school is. She also doesn’t have a favourite.

TimMcGraw · 18/02/2024 09:45

That’s fantastic news, MrsMoo - congratulations to your son. I’m so pleased he got the scholarship!

MushPeas · 22/02/2024 20:33

I can’t believe we are finally here. I wonder what time they send the emails out tomorrow. I work night shifts and I’m not going to be able to get to bed until that email comes through 😫. Good luck to you all.

I read some posts from last year and people where updating about 0930 onwards so hopefully it won't be too long before you can go to bed! 🤞
Today is going to be a long day 🤣

Also anxiously waiting here

my ds found the tests fine and I’m sure would have got good report from his (state) primary however I didn’t feel the interview went swimmingly- he was nervous and had to be prompted quite a bit.

I definitely didn’t feel that They are defo screening parents. They barely asked us anything.

we didn’t do any other tests. I wonder how many get offers vs how many places. They must have a formula in terms of the % that accept every year

a friend’s son is also going for it but his big brother is in sixth form and did extremely well in his GCSEs- I just can’t see how her younger son won’t get an offer.

TimMcGraw · 26/02/2024 11:23

😱

Clearinguptheclutter · 26/02/2024 11:26

Just RTFT

the reference from the school was def done a while back, before the exam I think. Because our ds’s tracher asked us if we had used a tutor (no) as that was one of the questions. I like to think the primary school reference is quite important. Usually about 2 kids every year from our (small one form entry) primary do go to SGS which is encouraging. Possibly others apply and don’t get in, not sure. 2 applied this year.

Re. feedback on the exam, the interviewer told us that ds had done very well
in maths (unsurprising) and ok in the others. They also said that they bring in 400 for interviews which is much more than I thought

I have no idea what ISI is, didn’t get an email about that. We will be annoyed but not the end of the world is he doesn’t get in, as long as he gets our first state choice which we’re hopeful about as in catchment. Roll on Friday for that.

Clearinguptheclutter · 26/02/2024 11:46

oh and one more thing we were told in the interview, there is no 'passmark'; at least this year they were merely interviewing the best 400 scores out of 530 (quite a few no shows).

Lunamoon13 · 26/02/2024 15:57

Our dd sat the exams at SGS and Kings. She had interviews at both. She did much better at the interview at Kings. At SGS she was interviewed by the Headteacher and she was visibly nervous. I asked how she had performed in the exam and was told she was in the second 25%. They put them into 4 quarters and I believe the last quarter aren’t invited for interviews. We are still not sure which school is our first choice. We will wait and see if there is an option or if the decision is made for us. Good luck for tomorrow.

Lunamoon13 · 26/02/2024 15:59

There are only 74 places this year at Kings and 129 at SGS for newcomers. There were over 530 children who sat the exam at both

Justgivemesomepeace · 26/02/2024 18:38

Hi can I join? I feel sick after I've seen these numbers. My DS felt the exam went well but I cant really gauge how the interview went, it just seemed fine. The headteacher interviewed DS and said she didnt like to tell people how they did in the exam but he had nothing to worry about.
I keep wondering how he's going to get to the top of a pile of 530 kids and whether we've done the right thing putting him through it.
He also tried for CHS and the offer date says today but we've heard nothing.
SGS is our preferred choice. Everything is crossed for everyone.

MushPeas · 26/02/2024 18:52

Hiya, thanks for the extra info. Interesting to know the numbers and that bit everyone was invited.
Gosh not many places are Kings.
We had an inset day today so been keeping the kids busy to take our minds off tomorrow!

Yes do join in! It's so worrying isn't it :( I think that's positive if the Head said there's nothing to worry about.
My DD was told there were areas that were OK and others she had to work on :-/

Btw @Justgivemesomepeace I'm surprised you haven't heard from CHS if today was offer day.
Btw I thought it was out of 600 students so the 530 makes me feel a bit better! Everything helps with the odds ;-)
