11 plus support thread for exams 2024

ElvenDreamer · 11/10/2023 08:55

Hi all,
Anyone fancy joining me for for an 11 plus support thread for those yr 5s who are probably just starting a bit of prep now ready to sit exams in September 2024?

State grammar is the angle I'm personally coming from but all welcome no matter if you're applying to private selective, state aptitude tests etc.

This will be my 3rd and final time of going through this and I've found support threads here really useful the previous times.

@evtheria he won't have one mark as it will depend on how the group sitting for that exam performed as a whole.

Moglet4 · 22/10/2024 12:32

My dd has passed and got really good scores. So relieved!

evtheria · 22/10/2024 12:33

Okay, so I thought that but didn't want to get it wrong before I told DS! Thank you all 💗 I hope everyone is glad to get the waiting over.

yoshiblue · 22/10/2024 13:19

Strong passes for us for both the Trafford schools we've applied for, I'm over the moon and can't wait for him to get home x

yoshiblue · 22/10/2024 13:20

@slaybell you'll have a good chance being only 3 marks off. Good luck!

Examstressargh · 22/10/2024 13:55

My dd didn’t pass 😭 I’m dreading telling her 😢

I’m so sorry. This does not define her. So important to be positive about the effort and how that will hold her in good stead in the future, as well as emphasising how difficult it is to pass these days and she can still excel going somewhere else.
I hope your evening goes ok. Make sure you heap praise on her for the effort.

yoshiblue · 22/10/2024 15:18

@Examstressargh I'm sorry to read this. There was a great thread on MN the other day offering support in how to tell your child if you can find it. There was some great advice to come across as breezy about it and bigging up the alternative e.g. better facilities/extra curricular for their favourite subject/hobby, also getting across she'll be better being in a top set at non-selective, less homework/pressure too.

I’m sorry. It’s a brutal and cruel process. Hopefully she’s not too disappointed and in a few months it’ll be long forgotten

troppibambini6 · 22/10/2024 15:55

Amazing news @Moglet4 and @yoshiblue!

@Examstressargh I'm sorry it's really brutal hope your dd is ok x

peacypops · 22/10/2024 18:10

Four very strong passes for Trafford - big relief all round. Well done to all those who have passed and sorry to those of you with disappointing news. It's such a tough test for our young people but I truly believe that all the prep that they do for it will serve them well whatever the outcome.

slaybell · 23/10/2024 10:05

Congratulations to all the passes!

@Examstressargh, I'm so sorry your DD didn't get the result you were hoping for and I hope she didn't take the news too badly.

Is she close enough to consider the local review for Urmston or Stretford?

Loreto parents: Does anyone know roughly what time to expect the email or is it just a case of refreshing my email inbox every 5 minutes?

Examstressargh · 23/10/2024 10:07

@slaybell unfortunately she was way out. So disappointed for her, she was scoring 90% upwards in all the mocks. Onwards and upwards though, trying not to dwell on it 😢

slaybell · 23/10/2024 10:16

@Examstressargh Oh that's so disappointing. It's such a brutal system and depends so heavily on how they perform on the day. My DD suffers from terrible nerves in exam settings so was well under what she was scoring on the mocks too. Hope you are both okay xx

Examstressargh · 23/10/2024 10:23

Thank you, I think the nerves most definitely got to her 😢 She’s not very resilient either so im
just hoping that this doesn’t knock her confidence too badly. Her friends all passed too so that’s not helped (although obviously I’m happy for them)

I’d heard Loreto was later in the day last year but obviously might not bear any relation this year. I’m checking constantly too.
Just seems so unfair the boys know but the girls are still waiting. At least we know it should be today.

troppibambini6 · 23/10/2024 12:01

@Examstressargh I hope she's ok it's so so hard on them. The same thing happened to ds friend he was scoring high 80's on the mock but it just didn't happen for him in the day. It's so unfair 😢

Good luck to the people waiting for Loreto today everything crossed for your girls @Traffordmum81 I totally agree it really unfair!

tiffandseb · 23/10/2024 15:10

Most children will be happier in a non-grammar! It it were down to me, I would scrap them overnight! They are not good in any way for this country.

slaybell · 23/10/2024 15:41

Still waiting on Loreto.

Getting a little ridiculous now as almost all others have received results.

I was hoping to have time to digest the Loreto results before my DD got home, but still not here. Do you think something has gone wrong? I can’t do this another day 🙈

slaybell · 23/10/2024 15:47

Oh I hope not.

Last year it looked like emails were sent about 3pm so it's getting on now FlowersSad

Traffordmum81 · 23/10/2024 16:40

Still nothing for Loreto. Has anyone heard anything? Thanks

troppibambini6 · 23/10/2024 16:51

I can't believe they're not out yet that's awful!!! I would call the school before everyone goes home.

We just received them, good news for us, hope everyone else does too. What a few days it’s been 🙈
